1. Can we see the listing? I can't find it as a completed sale but I am on android tablet which isnt the best for ebay.
2. Jeez! Whats with all the windings on the string posts, are they to try and pull the neck back?
3.
If its a pay to play gig, he can hire it for £25 per band... At the very least make sure he knows he pays if its damaged.
Or tell him you have some "bass amp loan tickets", you post 25 of them to him 3 days before the gig for him to sell to friends and family for £5 each on the understanding he pays you £5 for each one he ruturns to you unsold when you get there but he can keep £1 from each one he sells
4. Thats it, for some reason it's proper name won't go into my brain! Sloping bit under the E it is, lol
5. And some have a fingerboard that slopes away from the E string compared to the G string too.
6. Satin is sort of not glossy, or shiny but not dull or matte either, in the middle, im not sure if that helps or makes it worse.
7. Dont you just love a load of pissed up guests telling you how good there mate is and you should let them play! Embrace....sounds like you made the right choice
8. Our drummer has booked us for a holloween gig, the venue want us to sell tickets for £5 and we get half (I think as I wasnt listening fully), im happy to do the gig as its a big venue and he reckons he has 70 people from his work coming, that £58 each as a trio, its 30 miles away near his work. I have already made it clear I wont sell a single ticket. Oh well.
9.
I like the white. But walnut satin is the best in my opinion. mnach and stingraypete, lets have at look at your bass.
Front one is ern500evo's not mine, thats why I took the pic to send him. 10.
Yes, it's good to see the pics and great that you had good reviews
It looks like the sound guy managed to compress the electric drum kit so it was not as bad out front as it was in my monitor so maybe last night I was stressing too much. The drummer says he has found a loose connection on the snare but as you can see in the pics he ended up swapping the floor tom for the snare so I think he needs to check again! Almost like a clipping overload sound like he had turned something up too high imo.
11. The band setting up when I left had a big bass rig and sound before going into the pa, it sounded great but if they matched the rest of the band to that and put it to foh it will have been far too loud, on the other hand friday night I enjoyed playing more with my bigger amp as the main backline with just a bit of bass in the pa. I could hear the db quite well with it up there so that was ok.

13. Just watching the Paramore live at Reading coverage, their total PA fail is making me feel better now plus we got some good reviews for last night in the end apparently
14. I left my main function band about 3 years ago but we used to do an hour then a 20 minute break, another hour to finish. If the gig went well that last hour could become 1 and half hours with encores, requests as long as they were up and dancing we would keep playing. You have to leave the DJ something to do to earn half of what the band got for setting up a Maplins PA and a few lights haven't you?
15. I have been listening in the car just, are they riffs? or guitar based songs, some good songs I agree but "hey play that riff from Radiohead no surprises!"? How many bars can a riff be spread over?
16. I think the beauty of a carbon bow is that it can be made consistent unlike wood for a budget example, I imagine the hair and the person that fitted it will be more important as with any bow, at least that can be redone by someone who knows what they are doing with it.
17. Blimey I dont think I will be having that issue for a while!
18.
Another thing, since the very first bass i bought (a cheap laminate that wasn't playable) i have never bought a bass outright without taking it on a trial and would recommend that no one does either. Two weeks to a month is generally accepted as good trial time. Some pro's have taken bass's on trials for a year or longer just to make sure its the right one.
I have been playing mine for over a year now but I still would not be able to tell if a bass was any good really, I know what you are saying but it only works if you can already play fairly well, most people in this situation as I was are beginners or maybe the next step up, taking a good player along might be better but not everyone has a local good player to hand with the time to go and look at basses often 100 miles away do they? If I was a pro that warranted a year long trial of a bass I doubt I would be looking at Gedo basses or G4M I can't imagine many sellers on gumtree or ebay agreeing to any trial other than a dabble in their front front never mind 2 weeks? So that puts us back to shops probably on a sale or return basis, anything even one step up from my Gedo in a shop is going to be £1800+ thats the shops that stock such things most items in that price range at a shop are bows!
19.
Twice as long as our maximum evenings work, that is for sure.
Yep I agree, thats two weddings worth IMO
20. I am torn on this, our current trio does a wide range of stuff, Guy Mitchell to Billy Idol for example! The stuff that everyone does is the stuff the audience like, to us they are often boring songs we dont want to play then when the people get up and dance I think to myself I would rather play those songs than a good thought out mix of unusual stuff to bored faces. Free - Alright now and Queen - Tie your Mother Down go down a treat at every gig for example, I refuse to play sex on fire now though.
