1. I have heard your clips Bilbo, if you are ninth I am about the millionth!
2. I'm no expert but two fingers (the sides) is the norm afaik, check out the right hand technique lesson from Geoff
3. How many fingers are you using on the stagg then?
4. They feel like little toys dont they!
5. Upright is the way forward, people love the stagg at gigs too but it does feel like starting all over again. Have you started looking at double basses yet?
6. It will take a few weeks for your joints to get used to the new playing position, little and often is best to start with imo. Welcome to the stagg club
7. Just coming from the Cort factory means nothing either as they make a whole range of stuff from firewood upwards, they are a terrible company to work for too according to some of the stories so if you are the sort of person that is concerned about the factory staffs well being cort stuff is not for you! http://cortaction.wordpress.com/workers-stories/
8. Even as a die hard ebmm fan I would have to say the Lakland Skylines are more of a match to a usa ray than you are giving them credit for, the proper Laklands being a step up from a proper ebmm imo.
9.
You could get a Stingray SLO special (regular US Stingray with narrow neck like the Sterling). Even rarer though!
I think people get used to a wide nut or a narrow to start with then hanker after it on every bass, I either like a bass or I dont, some are wide and some are narrow, some are thick and some are thin.
10.
Yep, not a CA, I'll get my coat!
So a standard width nut just like a regular stingray after all then!
11. They have metal in their name though, lol
12. The one in the pick is not a CA, I can see the arm contour and the 4 knobs? Or am I missing something?
13. Thats tosh JTUK, im not a massive metal head but there are plenty of fingers guys in metal, errr lets kick it off with the biggest one and work backwards, Rob Trujillo of Metallica
14.
I picked up a second hand Ray34, and as a fellow small handed man (I weep every night), I must confirm that the neck on these kids feels much more comfortable than the classic Stingray. Still weigh an elfin ton, though. That's my particular lady, picked her up for just over £400, as a nice but knock around bass. Found out recently that apparently there were only only 149 (or something stupid similar) made in this colour. A very rare, beautiful knock around bass. Great logic, aye? Bought a mexican P - bass (antigua remake) after that for similar cause, later find out there were apparently around 249 of them made. I give up.
I dont think your standard Ray34 has a narrow neck does it, the ca models do? By Classic do you mean the actual model ClassicRay4 or are you just using the term to sum up regular Stingrays in general because the proper ClassicRays have a standard nut width but shallower profile front to back, I presume made possible due to the high grade maple reserved for them, they are super slick!
15. Those Oasis covers bands get about though don't they?
16. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/201015-1979-pre-eb-stingray-sold-pending-the-usual/page__p__1996910__hl__pre%20eb%20stingray__fromsearch__1#entry1996910 I did quite a nice listing for that one if I do say so myself Part of me wishes I had kept all my previous Rays, my Teal 4 was really nice but I dont know who has it now or where my mint 82 is that Oldhorsemurphy had off me
17. I think you are right! She was quite a weighty beast but a proper pre EB Ray, very vintage feel compared to my 82 and sounded great live! I dont think I removed the truss nut on that one but I must have adjusted it at some stage, that said it must have changed hands a few times since I had it. I could not work out the finish on that bass, I think it was a factory refinish as it was clearly black underneath the dings and in the cavity etc but looks like a proper factory top coat so I think it must have failed the QC on the first go then been sanded and blown over at MM, all just adds to some nice mojo now. It was me that dated it as a 79 rather than the 80 as it had been floating about at before as the neck was earlier and the pots were 79, the logo and stuff all pointed to pre 80 too. Funky old bass
18. 1. Bassace - Upton and Bryant basses, Clarus amp and Crazy 8 speaker. 2. Owen - 5 string DB, NS5 EUB, Clarus/Acme rig, Fdeck/Berg rig and some bass uke things. 3. StingrayPete1977 - Gedo 3/4 half carved 'antique' with Thomastik Spirocore weichs ebony board/tail, Yitamusic carbon fibre french bow.
19.
Hi Pete There will be an entry charge of £10 per head. Guests welcome.
Excellent Thanks I can't wait now.
20. I am liking the lady/bass inlay, I presume it is an inlay the same as yours Russ? If so how the feck did he do that, Lol
21. I gigged my first 5 string the same day I bought it , I knew trying to play 5 at home until I felt ready would never work so I jumped in at the deep end! The footage of the night cropped up a couple of weeks ago so I put a thread on here, there were a few bum notes and plenty of 5ths below but I have not looked back since and sold both my lovely pre EB Stingrays as they were never going to be used again. The only thing I do conciously is play any songs on electric bass only on the E-G strings that I will be playing on double bass at gigs so I dont get into the habit of playing across the board and using the B string, strangely I struggle with a four string bass now but my brain slips into gear with the upright straight off and I play a mixture of songs live on either but would struggle to play some songs on a four and some on a five string electric bass during a gig!
22.
dont use wd40 its a water dispersant not a penetrating oil, use plus gas which you can get from most motor factors and is designed to get where fog cant!
http://www.screwfix.com/p/wd-40-aerosol-lubricant-600ml/21697?kpid=21697&cm_mmc=Google-_-Product%20Listing%20Ads-_-Sales%20Tracking-_-sales%20tracking%20url&kpid=21697&cm_mmc=Google-_-Shopping%20-%20Auto%20and%20Cleaning-_-Shopping%20-%20Auto%20and%20Cleaning&gclid=CK7X3MSll8ACFWT4wgoduGgAuA Plus gas is better but I bet most people here have some WD40 knocking around, WD40 is a penetrating fluid 100% so I am not sure who told you that but I dont find that it lubricates very well even though it is advertised as a lubricant hence why I said to put a dab of copper grease on the thread before putting it back, copper grease does not set like regular grease so it will be just the job
