1. What is the pickup route like on them, early stingrays just had a big rectangular hole then they started to follow the pickup shape in the early 80s to allow clear guards to be fitted, or like Flea and Tim Commerford, no guard.
2. I have seen more faulty sandberg threads than ebmm threads, when you take into account how many more basses ebmm must sell than sandberg that is a tick for ebmm imo, there are currently two faulty sandberg threads right now but im struggling to recall any recent ebmm ones, last one was a twisted neck where everyone slated ebmm on here even though it was a used bass bought via a private sale.
3. Esperanza and Darcy from the smashing pumpkins when they were good.
4. One of only 3 made in that finish though, I like it but it is a string short and I am not cool enough to sport a pink bass
5. Brilliant as ever Geoff, I have a lesson with Jake on Sunday and as I have been slacking off a bit lately I have been doing a bit of homework, we left on 2-5-1 at the end of our last session so I will be starting with your lesson #37 as a basis which I have just been playing around with, where we end up from there is anyones guess, Thanks again and am I right in thinking you are coming to the Derby bash on the 5th of Oct? I would love to thank you in person as I really have used your lessons and advice on here since day one on my Stagg then the Gedo!
6. I presume this has come up many times before but looking on other clips where she did a full gig there is no bassist on stage, did flea really play behind the curtain all that time! Lol
7. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHbWfdoGjgI But what was the deal with Flea at this point, the album version without Flea is really good too IMO so why didn't he play at the MTV show or is the man himself behind the curtain? (yep the album version is Flea but the other version is on the end too). I think too many people get hung up on Fleas slap playing from 30 years ago (yep its 30 years since the first album now!) and dont listen beyond that.
8. The EBMM ceramic pickup in series mode is killer!
9. That lifting fret looks like a bit of something went under it and got trapped in there, it is a shame because I have seen some really nice Sandbergs but once you have been bitten it is hard to come back, I went to buy a Warwick Jazzman in 2002 with cash in my pocket, it did not work at all as the preamp was shot and needed to be returned for repair straight out the box so I walked around the shop with the money burning a hole in my pocket until I found one I liked for the same price (£1300 I think) you can guess what that bass was
10.
@stingraypete1977 I have a 210 cab loaded with Eminence Delta 10's and I really like the clear, middy tone I get. I much preferred it over the Compact for gigs because, to me, the Compact tone was a bit too rich and thick, especially with my Fender P. Trouble is, the 210 cab is too unwieldy for rehearsals (stairs...) So, my main need is for something light and powerful enough for use at rehearsals, maybe teamed up with a second cab for gigs so I don't have to wrestle with the heavy 210 cab. 5-piece country-pop band. Rehearsal recordings (through the air recordings, no post mixing) here (no tittering please!): https://soundcloud.c...ella-rossa-band playing pubs, wine-bars, private parties. Sometimes I DI through the PA, but I prefer not to have to rely on that.
You defo need a pair of something then, I dont think even a really good 4ohm 1x12 will keep up with a pair of average 8 ohm 12s, OK the single 4 ohm 12 might sound lots better than the cheaper on on their own in direct comparison but it sounds like you need an 8 ohm for practice and a matching one to add for gigs rather than the 4 ohm leaving you wanting come the big night?
11. I am just looking at the pics on a proper screen, I am not overly fussy but that is well below standard IMO, not just the wear but more importantly the finish and the neck pocket with the general surrounding area of neck heel line and scratchplate fitment, those were obviously like that before the fret wear was added. A comment that struck me as odd that TNIT made in the Sandberg or Musicman thread was that he felt EBMM stuff was the most mass produced feeling of the mass produced basses, I 100% agree but see it as a total bonus! Great, perfect fit and finish where they are all neatly cut by fancy machines so to a large extent it is a matter of choosing the colour, this bass almost looks like they did not have the machinery to make a lefty and got someone to make one as a one off, one off can be either brilliant or gash, rarely in between in my experience. Fingers crossed something good comes along soon
12.
Spector Rebop MM
I suppose technically that one is actually a MM Pober Rotceps?
13. Deciding if you need one or two needs to be at the to of your list IMO, a pair of ok twelves will still be better than a singular twelve even if it's a better cab, I'm sure we will have our nay Sayers but I'm man enough to admit a pair of the hartke or GK cabs would be better in a gig situation than my singular Genz twelve even though the cost of one would buy a pair of the hartke twelves for example, this is why I have a 2x12 version for proper gigs.
14. The four year old stingray I collected for ern500evo was in better condition than that bass in the pictures, check out his thread if you don't believe me.
15. Did they manage to get rid of the worst offender? He was very immature at times and down right offensive really, what was his name?... Big..something..... FWIW I have owned 6 Stingrays and I have an OLP Silohuette guitar plus I have had my hands on many other EBMM products, some for other members of this forum (see Ern500's topic) but never worried either way about the EBMM forum, If I wanted to argue rubbish about basses and bass amps etc I would just come here
16. I presume I am OK to bring a mate along to this event, he is a guitarist for which I appologise but he is also into making things from wood like guitars and turned stuff etc so he fancies seeing some close up fancy wooden stuff Is there a fee per head for the doo or whats the deal, thanks
17. Bada$$ bridge, a neck and body full refin, set of Bartolini pickups, and a John East preamp and I would be all over this
18.
They could almost be twins! The blue and maple with black scratchplate is perfect for me, love it. Although I have to say Pete's tobacco 'Ray 5 is an absolute beauty.
As you know this is its actual twin, they even have identical setups on them The mystery drink is in fact A&W Root Beer, I was one of handful of people sad to see Mcdonalds take root beer off the menu all those years ago, I bloody love the stuff but you just dont get it anywhere, OK diner is the only place near me that serve it, importing it costs a fortune but eBay has recently come to the rescue and I have 24 new cans to go at now! For the purposes of nothing but pornographic Stingray images here is my Tobacco burst ClassicRay5 with John East preamp
19. I was just about to say that Jose, there is nothing stopping you dropping the e to a D on a fiver so there is no reason why it can't be played convincingly on a fiver at all. Maybe there are two schools of thought clashing here? Some people are looking for an exact duplicate of the record (peteb) myself I'm thinking of a covers band context where the other variables like not having slash in your band,a different singer, drummer, equipment etc etc etc etc are going to be a thousand times more noticeable that my fretted or open D
20. The damping is easy if you play the F on the D string.
