I am feeling very tense at the moment.....
stingrayPete1977 replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in EUB and Double Bass
I see what you are saying I will put a straight edge up it and see, I am sure the setup could be improved upon maybe with a slight reduction at the nut height, Tim Tofts are up the road so I might wait and see what other basses at the bash are like then take it it for a full setup hopefully retaining my existing bridge and Spiros to keep the cost down, Thanks guys thats a big help as I never really thought about the releif in the neck before -

Thanks guys looks like I have weichs then already so that option is out (I can probably find the Gedo invoice in my emails somewhere to see what I asked for), I dont know anything about fingerboard scoops, where am I looking? Thanks -
Well do something radical and don't look.
I stopped looking at Fender copies a while ago now, these ones got my interest due to the blatant copyright law breaking thats all

BTW that bridge is bang on central to the board and centred to the F notches, it is just the photo I promise -
Jake Newman has played my bass so should be able to help here but I am throwing it wide open and have some detective work at the same time for you experts, he said it was firmer than his Ooo Err, I think I have Spirocore mediums on both my Stagg and my Gedo basses red silks at the tail and purple at the tuners? Modified Stagg to take standard 3/4 strings... Gedo 3/4 fitted with Spiros by them with my other upgrades when the bass was built.... I wanted to check and found this packet, I dont know where it came from but the strings inside are I think the standard Stagg ones? The package says light? Although I have found this empty one, I presume from either my Stagg set or the Gedo as they sent me the packaging with the bass? OK now the tension thing, the Stagg plays really well and very light without any clatter etc obviously helped by the fact you can plug it in and turn it up as loud as you like! The Gedo plays well enough with no nasty rattles or anything but the string tension feels much firmer and the action seems higher even though its only about 10mm off the edge of the board on the E string, should I lower the adjustable bridge a little and see how that is (took me ages to get it all to settle where it is now!) or do you think I would be better with a lighter string maybe a Spiro weich rather than the Mittels if thats what I have (fairly sure they are?) I am coming to the october bass day so you can all have a feel then I hopefully I can try everyone elses
Too right - I'll stick a Fender logo on whatever I want. I'd challenge anyone here to tell the difference from three feet away.
The funny thing is a lot of punters would not get that joke and presume it to be a Fender such is the notoriety of the brand never mind spot a fake logo on something like the many Fender clones! I dont think I am a full on BRX Fender hater yet but I sure am bored with all the copies now

More 5 string basses wont of helped I guess needing plenty of watts and large cabs for a dirty dub bass line rather than just throwing in a low B at the end of a 12 bar blues, gas from reading stuff on basschat about minimum watts they would gig with probably more likely and most of all watts have never been cheaper. My Shuttlemax 9.2 twin channel beast came with the foot pedal and a gig skinz carry case in mint condition but used just a few times off ebay for £530, even at the £1050 new thats just over a £1 a watt!
If i wanted to put a Bloggs Bass decal on something that wasn't actually a Bloggs Bass, i'd do it. And I certainly wouldn't feel it necessary to explain or justify my reasons for doing so.
Does anyone read the other posts though? Do what you like to your bass, start a business building and selling them and its wrong, plain wrong, not Im banging my head against a wall because its my bass wrong, not the thread is going round in circles wrong, not two sides to the arguement might as well lock it wrong. Just wrong, forgery, fake, using another brand to help promote your own, wrong diddly wrong wrong. This is from a man who built and sold a bitsa fake jazz on this very site....at a loss with no intentions of building any more.

Im in Stafford, I wonder where it is as I love old dusty houses and stuff. -
Hmmm! Making me think my uncle should remove the AC off his Cobra replica t
AC are no longer in business, other cars bearing similar names are AC cars UK etc. If you want to register Limelight Fender basses UK 2014 ltd that's fine, if you want to build your own almost certainly worth less than it costs to build and put a logo on that's fine. Selling a product as a registered business with some one elses logo on that is well know to be copy righted is not, so what if a few people want to pretend they have a vintage fender when they don't, a logo will be tuppence on Ebay and two minutes to fit it. I'd be glad the company managed to get some trade selling off the fender brand before losing it all, jeez the brand is a total fender rip off anyway it's only the logo that they can stop him using so be glad the rest of the instrument can be made or design, build, promote and sell his own creations!
Careful you don't spit it into your amps!
Unless it's on fire!
I have a replica with a fender logo. All part of the fact its a replica. If you don't like it you'll have to get over it I'm afraid.
I had one too, on a bitsa I made but I sold it at a loss, you can't have a profit making business putting them on at the factory IMO, nothing to get over.

Just put your own decals on, you cant have a company trading on anothers name.
Because they all have different flavours and are all awesome! The MAG combo is for rehearsals and 'quick setup' gigs, the CTM100 is the main head, with the ABM300 as back-up. I swap the MAG and ABM chassis out of the head and combo depending on what mood im in I'm sorry to hear that stingrayPete1977, I've always had great customer service from them and find them very helpful (mMrshall on the other hand, i can't slag off enough after the trouble i had with the MB range). I run my heads though a Genz cab, who's amps I'm also keen on.
Tbf from what I have seen since joining basschat their customer care has improved a lot.
Gotta laugh sometimes(or cry maybe in this case) Loads of threads regarding amps and tone etc, favourite live sounds etc and GAS for 'insert boutique brand of the month here' but a couple of people say they were impressed by the live sound of an Ashdown rig and suddenly the amp is actually irrelevent and its all the PA... Off to bang head into wall.
Where did you get that from?, loads of people banged on about the great sound, I pointed out that the pa will make more of a difference especially if its a clean di but I still see most people happy they are still hearing the bass amp. Your Ashdown tone never got to foh during my time with one (about 6 years)other than some bleed to punters right in front of it maybe as I always have a clean di to the desk for the engineer to do as he/she pleases, I never corrected anyone that said my ashdown sounded great when what they heard was a stingray into a great EV pa at our own function gigs and whatever pa system was at others. I understand product placement and the reality of clean di and iem too

I love forums, if someone is a nice guy and uk based we must get behind them, making a bitsa for yourself is unlikely to make a profit where these are copies, wrap it up however you like but that is what they are, im amazed Fender have allowed it!
My 13yo ABM 300 has just popped it's valve stage, but still sounds awesome and ashdown are happy to fix it for me. If you think about how often cars are repaired, I'd say 13years without trouble makes them pretty reliable.
That's good for you but mine wasn't, Ashdown were not interested in any repairs or servicing when I emailed them, this was around 2008 or 2009 though. I switched to Genz and never looked back, I also wanted to go for something lighter if I had to buy a new amp which I did due to the intermittent fault on the Ashdown and as I had plenty of gigs coming up, I looked at the super fly head but lets not go there! Lol
As much as I hate limiters, I have to deal with them quite regularly. My band loves to play at a decent volume, but when faced with one of these we find the limit of the limiter in soundcheck, back off a tad, and here's the clever bit - we stay at that volume for the rest of the gig! I admit, playing quietly sucks, but we are proof that it can be done. No resetting the limiter and looking stupid. I know plenty of so called 'pros' who just can't play quietly when neccessary. They drive me nuts. It isn't hard, and the band can actually swing at lower volume levels too, and less feedback issues to boot.
I don't like an overly loud band so I agree but like others I've encountered them where you couldn't even have an acoustic jam and just use a pa for vocals, the quietest function band wouldn't be able to avoid tripping in those venues. Our drummer has an electric Kit and they are king really for sound limiter gigs, set the snare volume and tone to stay in the amber and match the band to that.
My 13 year old ABM300 has never once given me any trouble , not even a crackly pot or anything. Has always sounded great during the many many gigs and rehearsals that I and friends who I've lent it to have done with it. I think that says something.
Mine was sold as spares or repairs on ebay at around 6 years old.
I think in reality our favourite players would sound like themselves on any decent gear within reason. I have had a selection of basses and amps, I always sound like me! (Terrible mostly). How much of massive bass rig can a mic pick up and pass on to a totally different amp and pa speaker arrangement eq'd by someone else at the other end of a stadium in some cases, I'll bet there was a di combined with the mic even just for emergency drummer knocked the basd mic stand over moments!
Ask if you can bypass it and just have them keep an eye on it to see if you should turn down or not.
They are usually fitted due to complaints to the council from local residents, the council will do spot checks, if found bypassed (you cant bypass them, only plug into a kitchen socket or similar) the venue loses its entertainment licence on the spot.
That's the opposite of my experience. That's also the opposite of my experience.
I have found the evo to be more wooly and the mag tighter and more suited to active basses than my old evo was, ive had some very nice sounds from a big mag combo at a jam night, id still di clean to the desk at a gig large enough though so no one is hearing my amp anyway.
When I saw From The Jam earlier this year, Bruce Foxton was using his Ashdown stack (410 + 810) and it sounded amazing. I need light gear so my Markbass set-up is ideal, but if I were looking for a set-up now, after hearing Bruce I`d be checking Ashdown gear out - and if it were light enough, no doubt buying it as well.
Were you on the stage? If not did they have an ashdown pa?

Awful devices, certain frequencys upset them more than others, snare drum being number one but I have seen them trip at volumes levels not much more than you would have the wireless on in an old folks home!
