2.
Best thing you could do mate is find someone decent to play your upright with. Just dive in there, it's the only way to improve really.
I think deep down I already know you are right
3. Haha nice, id be very happy to find some db sets in there! Rule of thumb appears to be add the word orchestral and add a zero to the end of the price tag
4.
Why would we have bike sheds when we all had drivers darling?
To be fair as posh as that school is you wouldnt want to walk anywhere nearby would you!
5.
We had an Encore J in black I seem to recall... with a 50w laney. Lucky to have one by what I'm reading here... Mind you, one of the teachers who taught trombone was a sh1t hot bass player. 5 string Wal hanging up in his office with a Peterson combo... for those moments when he fancied a dabble.
You went to the posh school though! We had nothing unless you took your own in other than a very sad looking double bass tuned to good knows what. I had an ibanez guitar back then, failed guitarist you see....
6. You can watch the ladies all night if you don't have to keep looking at the finger board!
7. I made a public apology for being anti five string though

9.
Isn't sound a little bit objective? The 212 had lots of clarity and a a very full range, just to my ears, at least with my bass/setup, it sounded like there was a slight scoop in the upper mids which I don't find with my Vanderkley. What makes you say that the Ashdown will choke the Genz? Frequency response? Experience? Dave
I have owned and used loads of Ashdown gear, they sound like someone forgot to take the packing box off before using them, loads of guys on here say they don't lack any top end usually the guys playing a p bass with flats using their thumb and with a foam mute behind the strings! The Genz can recreate that if you put a woolly amp through it but putting your Genz into an Ashdown cab won't get rid of the dull cab, it might have more top than a full Ashdown rig and it might even be enough for your tastes but that's what i mean by choked, something which will not allow the full Genz range to flow through, choked.
10. I'm hoping they will keep the rumble ones as a sort of squier range and release a usa (taiwan lol) genz circuit fender range.
11. I have a few irons in the fire but I'm just not feeling it lately. I'd like an upright gig but I don't feel good enough to try joining anyone decent yet. Without sounding like an arse I can play it and I'm sure there are many players gigging on elec bass at a similar standard to my upright standard but its a long way off my normal ability on elec bass if that makes sense?
12. Stands a good chance, you can bet the fender fans that previously slagged them off will say they sounds better even if they are the same circuits inside!
13. I'm with you mate, not the vmax though, maybe a nice triumph for me Can I be arsed? Is it worth it? Do I just stick to playing upright at home and sell 2 stingrays?.....
14. An ashdown cab will just choke your shuttlemax imo, the neo2x12 is basically just a pa cab so I can't see how it would be smooth or dark, it can do smooth and it can do dark, but if you put a gritty ampeg simulator through it then it would do that too. You get out what you put in imo, ask someone with a streamliner 900 if they find a lack of grit for example
15. It is a rig of champions why fender are pulling the plug on genz when class d amps are becoming king and companies like barefaced can't make similar cabs quick enough I will never know!!!!
16. Great purchase, you won't regret it
17. I would go shuttle for the head no doubt about if its going to be used for db, the streamliner will add much more colour than the shuttle. I'm not sure about the cabs, I'm sure any of them will work well but I have only used neox cabs rather than focus ones.
18. 2 Jose, I wanted to keep it sort of standard as I have the other regular 3 eq SR5s.
19. I have a classic, I took the preamp out and put an east in
20. I have been here less than a year ago, my playing improved over night once I started to get to grips with the correct fingering, watch Geoffs discover double bass lessons and go from there
21.
I've found that the trick with Rotosound roundwounds is not to buy them from a shop where they may have been sitting for quite some time on the display rack and already gone off in the packet, but to get from direct from Rotosound themselves at trade shows where they will normally be brand new off the production line.
I'd still rather spend the money on pick and mix sweets or something if I was at a trade show, just order some proper strings online when you get home
