1. I'd hand out hats on the door to people foolish enough to leave home to attend a jazz club without one! (For a small fee naturally)
2.
2EQ. Bass full on. Treble on only a nadge. Sexual.
Yep the john east is probably a bit too much but I still go to 3/4 bass boost.
3. You have finally taken the plunge then! Good luck with the sale of this awesome and rare beast.
4. Found this! I'm going to go along to a gig if I can find anyone to go with http://www.staffordjazz.org
5. Can't find it on the thomann site but they do have this?http://www.thomann.de/gb/ibanez_gsr206_bk.htm
6. I know a guy with a Cort (I think) 6 string, thomann purchase I think, nice bass that looks very expensive but was within your budget I think. The Tony Levin olp 5 string stingrays are nice if one pops up for sale but they have a slightly tighter spacing than an ebmm Ray 5.
7. I don't know any local DB players, there is no jazz jam either My mate lives in Bristol and we went in the old duke the other day, that venue looks like where I want to be! I think my obvious starting place is to ring Tim tofts and ask them if they know a local tutor.
8. I just wish there were plenty of dedicated double bass teachers nearby
9. Don't boost the treble, maybe a tiny but not as much as the bass, go on you will love it
10. I prefer her on upright but then again she is funky on the fretless!
11. Yep yep yep! I have her album on loop when doing diy
12. Get that bass boosted machinehead!
13. Lots of us have been here in the last year or so, for me I'm glad I went for a new Gedo Musik bass, there might be better basses used for the same or less money but finding one and knowing it if it hit me in the face isn't easy! Best of luck with it and get watching Geoffs discover double bass videos
14.
Is the 2EQ in the classic the same as a regular EBMM 2EQ? Is there all that much difference between either and the John East ones?
They are meant to be electronically identicle to the last 79> version but mine was really lifeless, it may have been damaged in some way? I got the bass in a trade rather than new. JE does a sneaky 3 band version in two pots but I wanted to keep it as a 2 band as I have 2 other 3 band rays anyway. The John East circuits just have more of everything no matter which bass you have, the p bass circuit that charges via the jack socket is brilliant!
15. Black one is the best, 2007 body transition model with all the new updates other than it is ceramic not alnico but it has a 2004 neck rather than the pau ferro fretless and matched headstock it left california with, I swapped the pearloid plate for a genuine gloss black one too, its brilliant and always sounds good live or recorded.
16. Here she is
17.
ouch, was that painful to find out?
I half expected it and unfortunately what I have is the closest possible option of what is essentially a reissue of a bass that never existed, a 5 string pre eb. I went for the john east as it was developed to sound as close s possible to a real pre eb circuit too, it basically has more bottom and more top if required. The bass is stunning though and plays great too
18. I had a trans green SB320 with the gold hardware, sold it ages ago for £250, still one of the best fit and finishes I have seen
19. Looks like I have nothing to add here
20. They should have put a label on the streamliners telling people to turn the bass down much lower than they would on any other amp, it would have saved some early reviews being wrongly negative about the tone imo!
21.
Who uses theory to create music? Music should be a spur of the moment, I just thought of a great idea in my head thing. Theory lacks soul and music really needs that to make it special.
And we are back to the beginning about not knowing you are using it doesn't mean you aren't using it.
22. I'd have Leo fender brought back from the dead and get him to design and build a pre eb 5 string stingray but with a six bolt neck and a wheel of fortune truss rod!
23. Also Lozz there are loads of bc members running a neox2x12T cab not all with genz amps either, probably one of the nearest cabs to a barefaced 2x12 and even alex rates them as a good cab design!
24.
Yes, considering the way their amp-owners rave about the amps I`m surprised there aren`t more reviews/user opinions on Genz cabs.
I think plenty of folk using genz amps have genz cabs just to the focus range, they could have done with a focus range head to make a cheaper rig that should have been good. Most people with a top of the range head are going to be using the neox range like me or people with loads of dosh will have the uber cabs. Maybe the focus cabs never had a suitably priced head to make them sell as well as other brands?
