Yita Double Bass Bow (Carbon Fibre)
stingrayPete1977 replied to SevenSeas's topic in EUB and Double Bass
I have a french Yita, not sure which one it is but it was about £100 I think? Its quite pretty but I have no idea how good or bad it is as my bow skills are lacking a lot -
An open letter to Custom builders. (Update on Page 11)
stingrayPete1977 replied to Shockwave's topic in General Discussion
As i understand it places like bass direct are swamped with offers to stock these one of basses, but understandably they don't want hundreds of brands all offering different percentages only to take all the flak for mistakes and delays the builders make, read back through the thread would you want to be the public face for any of the brands mentioned for a very small cut of the proceeds? -

Do I want to sell my Bergs and go Barefaced?
Does anyone remember when cars didn't have power steering as standard? Everyone had muscles! I drove my dad's elderly 1982 Ford Sierra last year (manual steering) and could hardly turn the wheel! Technology is turning us into weaklings!
As a long term addict of rusty terrible cars what we have done is forgot how to drive! Dry steering wasn't done before because you couldn't unless you were a beefcake, we learnt how to only steer with the car in motion be it forwards or backwards, my Morris 1000 has lighter steering than the wifes Focus Zetec too Anyway back OT....... -
I don't normally recommend combos over separates but them genz contour amps sound great!
-
I have tried the whole range extensively about 5 years ago, all the rooms are (were) peavey equipped, pa, bass, guitar and keyboard amps. The different sized rooms had a suitable sized rig with the best room having the top of the range rigs and best pa, I like peavey gear and was in the market for a new amp at the time to replace my ashdown rig (faulty) on paper they were perfect and just a matter of choosing which one, bought a shuttle 6.0 and a 2x12T cab
-
I find running an amp rated at 700/4 in 600/8 and 350/8 cabs just loads the lower powered cab too much. I can get a far better sound with regards to cabs not stressing running the same amp at 600/8 cabs.... I have the volume in the amp to spare, but the cab...altho drawing less watts into the resistance, still put out ALL the volume I need. Ok, so I run it with higher output, but the amp can do that all day... it doesn't worry about the load. I don't know how the PV behaves when pushed
I have used those amps with the matching 8x10, weak.
-
The amp is probably your no 1 suspect. Those things are notoriously quiet despite their generous power rating. Remember volume measured in dbs not watts. Whole rehearsal sounds like a nightmare situation tbh.
Have you used the ones at Walsall?, my shuttle 3.0 and 1x12 is more use!

At the end of the day every car I have owned except for my classic ones has lost around £1500 a year so in reality thats a new USA Ray every year for nothing really isnt it, but people keep buying new cars and the cycle continues. Buy a used one for £750 now keep it for twenty years and I am sure it will be worth more than the Ford Focus we have on the drive right now, it will also still be a solid reliable gigging bass that looks and sounds great too, I see no problem
-
I used the tour heads and the fire bass is it? At the practise rooms in Walsall, they were paired to matching 8x10 cabs yet had a pathetic output, anyone who hadn't tried new gear for a while might have a shock with a modern 2x12 and a 200 watt head!

Do I want to sell my Bergs and go Barefaced?
stingrayPete1977 replied to fretmeister's topic in Amps and Cabs
I think what gets peoples goat is the BF fans always sign off with, "blew away my MarkBass" or "Brand X are not comparable" when they clearly are, If you like the tone thats cool and the weight saving is great but why end the response with the non factual bits almost everytime. The other thing regarding the weight is that so many other brands have cabs that weigh a lot less than they used to so a few lbs here and there is less of an issue, a pair of Marbass 1x12 cabs aint exactly heavy compared to my old Peavey TNT combo is it, my GB 2x12 is fairly light and has rattle free handles and heavy duty rubber wheels, it looks expensive and the rat fur is like new 4 years on, I see no issue, plus it "blows away brand X tonally too" -
Stingray fives have mostly held about a hundred pound more than four string version of the same age and spec, also a big factor is the upgrade they did in 2007,(quite a few for sale here have been the new version), any new versions are going to be quite a bit more than the older version but to the untrained eye it just looks like a lot more money for a slightly newer bass, I'd want a grand minimum for my 2010 for example yet probably £750 for my 2007. The new list prices like all brands are higher too, my classic is well over £2k now.
I really like carpet covering to be honest. I've had carpet covered cabs for years that have always looked good , no rips or peeling off. I've had tolex that ripped everytime I looked at it and just looked rubbish after a while. Keeping hairs etc off carpet is easy , use covers and if they do look a bit dirty a quick hoover or rub over with gaffa tape does the trick !The Hammerite paint job is my least favourite finish as it just looks cheap on an expensive bit of kit. I agree about white cabs , I had one once and they do look the business !
Same here, I have two spaniels but they rarely come to gigs -
Somone mentioned a premium price earlier. An Ampeg 610 new will set you back over £1k while the BF is under. Markbasses cabs aren't nearly an equivalent but are cheaper, while many are still more expensive and either won't go nearly as loud or be as light. This arguement is done to death and always ends up the same, varying opinions about finish and the clean vs. Coloured crap. If you fancy the drive up to Nottingham to try my Gen 3 Super Compact you are more than welcome to. Its a great cab and I have a highly coloured sound that I can hear properly through it.
Will one BF cab really match an ampeg 6x10 and I fail to see Mark bass being not nearly an equivalent either, I just don't. -
Why Do People Think Set-Ups Are Magic?
stingrayPete1977 replied to Lowender's topic in General Discussion
I also find it strange that some people mention the setup in for sale adds, and bung on the cost. Unless it was something drastic i cant see that one persons preference is worth paying extra for.
Now this I do agree with, someone had a Sue Ryder P bass on here a while ago where they had added on £40 for their pro setup, packet of Rotos and ten minutes tinkering is not worth £40 to me as I dont like Rotos and I probably wont like their setup either -

stingrayPete1977 replied to fretmeister's topic in Amps and Cabs
I think the amount of interest your not yet for sale Bergs are generating should be taken into account, they are the only brand of cabs I would trade my Genz cabs for right now -
Listen how low the bass is on the album version compared to that live clip above http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiQFvA2o3j0

My only gripe is the lack of 5 string live, I dont get why he has ERB on the album but not live, the bassist is great and I would have him record his live parts as the album parts on 4 string bass or use a bass player that plays the album versions live too, I know I am grumpy and it is a silly gripe but thats my lookout
When are they supposed to make items for stock when they can't fulfill actual orders on time? Just asking.
They could make them instead of going to trade shows drumming up more trade for the items they already have too much demand for to get built in time and save the costs of a stand at the trade show! -
Ever wondered why your cab has funny shaped holes in it?
