1.
So, you can sing the praises of companies and individuals that provide you with outstanding service, but cannot warn people of your exact experience with those that are useless? and here I was assuming that Basschat was here to help people with the truth?
This is what I am talking about, is it more just a list of good points and fan bois rather than a resourse for steering clear or at least being more informed of possible 'issues' with certain brands. Not just BC, the net in general?
 2. Please can we not turn this thread into the other thread? I know it is inspired by the deleted one but it I am talking about a general lack of being able to state facts about negative experiences rather than the details of the other thread, ta.
 3. So I see the luthier thread has gone, I missed the conclusion but thats not my point really, we hear so often that we should all put our personal findings out in the open for others to read but in reality all of those threads get locked or deleted in a short period of time, OK so once the big players get involved ie EBMM making BC take down the thread about sloppy fret work for example I can see they are tied up even though as a fan of their products I was all for leaving the thread open as there was nothing wrong with the method anyway really, again Rickenblabber we know all about so lets not even go there. Any thread started about a negative experience will turn into a list of people, some who are objective and others that are just defending the brands in blind faith, I have noticed in a few Barefaced threads some people have logged in and posted that people should not slag them off etc only to read back through the topic to find no one actually has before they posted! Has it come to the point where they want to get that in first? crazy. We saw the car crash Alleva bass, which no matter what the ins and outs were between buyer and seller the bass was a pile of sh*t that should have been broken up for spares. The deleted thread was aimed at all brands even though the OP had only had experience of three bespoke companies albeit all negative ones so I can see that would nark me and most people too. IMO the thread should have been aimed at the brand in question (which I am not even going to mention) as a warning to others that the OP says they had wished they knew about beforehand but I bet the thread would have ended up deleted too so whats the point? I would love a feedback section for all the various brands that we can now enjoy but in reality any thread where someone has had a negative personal experience will end in tears. Do we really have the power of the internet that we all suggest or is the negative info only available to those that got a look at it before it was deleted? Censoring is a bad thing IMO, I remeber hearing Cheryl Cole live at the radio one big weekender a few years ago, I couldn't wait to watch it on Youtube when I got home as it was the worst vocal performance I have ever heard, but you cant because its gone, deleted, destroyed who knows. Rant over
 4. I have owned 2 pre EB Rays, Marlowes easiest solution would have be to turn the treble knob about half a mm to get all the zing back, all it did for me was make me miss my pre EB babies
 5.
Really?
6.
Is this an appropriate time to mention Macca's cheapo violin bass? Really held him back didn't it?
Imagine how good a player he might have been on a better bass!
 7.
Hello all. This is more of a statement then anything. But I have never ever ordered anything custom and got it when it was promised. I generally take a lax approach to Custom built things because I don't want to antagonize the manufacturer, However I feel this has been taken advantage of by a number of builders. I have been given excuses time and time again as to why things are not completed, but I see builds being completed from orders made after my own and other evidence of dishonesty. Currently I am waiting on two sets of custom pickups by an un-named custom builder on another forum. Given a build time of 4-6 weeks, still waiting a year later. I have been nice up to a point but I have lost patience. The builder had some personal issues, but no longer and he has openly stated that he is building new orders ahead of mine and is calling me unreasonable. I have a bass being made by a builder on this forum at a cut price. It was ordered this time last year and was supposed to be finished by Easter/April time. I have been asking for a proper honest update for the last month but with no reply. I have a bass being built by another builder not based on any forum, ordered a year ago. It seems to be finally getting built, but I had to be persistent in my calls and is the only builder I know in person. Even though waiting for a custom bass for 6 months to a year is not considered a long wait by many people, I do expect builders to stick to the build times given and not to take advantage of my good cheer. When I start chasing up on orders more insistently via Email typically they say nothing. And when I feel I have no choice but to vent on a public forum, they try to go damage control and make me look unreasonable. All I ask from these custom builders is absoloute honesty in their communications with me and what they are working on. Constant lies catch up with you at some point and just because I may only know you through the internet, does not give you the right to ignore me more then any other customer. That is all.
Why didn't you just name and shame from the off then if you we not aware of delays on custom orders why make this a plea to all of the others you don't or didn't know were just as bad?Is this now officially a bad feedback for Jon Letts thread then or am I missing something?
 8.
You don't have to be logged onto BassChat to read this thread.
I beat you to it
 9.
Or they can make a decision whether the wait and hassle is for them and if not, get something else that is similar from someone else, something completely different or just not buy anything!
In reality what happens is the people who waited ages and got really sick of waiting then come back and say even after all the trouble it was worth the wait because its exactly what I wanted and no one else could have made it, so we are still in the dark really. We all know these things will take forever without people pointing it out IMO. I think what I am saying is that most people have already got serious gas for a specific item before they get to the stage of finding out how long it takes to be built.
 10.
FWIW, Jon Letts hasn't been logged in on BassChat since July so we wont know if he's read this thread. He is still active though, as he posted some build pics this morning on FaceBook
11. When I went from Ashdown to Genz a few years ago I knew my playing was very sloppy within a few gigs, unfortunately it still is
 12. I have been looking at a Rebop 5 in that blue colour, its very nice to look at
 13.
No Pete, this is what the Scroll is for....
Thunder- thunder- thunder- thunder -Cats!
 14. I think the people that are missing the point are thinking a custom bass is a Jazz bass with a tort guard and a set of bart pickups rather than the point EBS freak is making where we are talking total one offs or items that hold a value to some people partly because of the name which could even be a dull Jazz bass that costs three times as much for no other reason than the brand. If you want Nike trainers then you want Nike trainers, a pair of Nuke ones off the market might even be better trainers but you still aint got a pair of Nike have you?
 15.
This. [Disclaimer: Never bought a custom anything...]
So if someone on here tells a tale of bad service for an item that is only available from one supplier we can all read the thread and get the item from somewhere else?
 16.
"ooh, imagine it in it's day..."
Gash
 17. I was going to put a picture of a terrible Morgan style kit car on but I am on the works PC
 18.
Are people not reading my comments properly? It's not about going elsewhere or chosing other vendors... I am guessing Shockwave's choices for going with those manufacturers are because they offer something that other vendors dont. Jon Lett's guitars are certainly unique looking and not something that is readily available off the shelf. SGD pickups certainly have a rep over on talkbass - and I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me if Shockwave had ordered one of those Wal inspired pickups. Now you tell me where you can readily get hold of a set of those. I know another certain luthier was working on getting some manufactured, but I know he wouldn't see them outside of his basses, as they form part of the unique selling point of his basses. I would certainly suggest that people do their homework. Find you perfect luthier. Find your perfect pickup maker. Great. But if you want a XYZ product that is only available from Mr ABC, then you are in a put up or shut up situation (there's that phrase again for me to misquoted on again). There are many luthiers that have certain reputations... but the top and tale of it, you have to deal with them if you want their product that badly. Jeez. You want something like a Morgan car? You join the (long) queue... you don't know exactly when it will be made... you just sit and wait until your number comes up? Not good enough? Buy one second hand or put up and shut up? You aren't going to get a new Morgan any other way. Yes, you can buy something else and take your money elsewhere... but you won't have a new Morgan. It doesn't matter what stories good or bad you are told... if you want something, in a way, you have to play their game despite you being the customer (and of course, the customer is always right). Totally wrong I know... but that's how it is when the seller has something that you want that you can't just pluck off the shelf. Yes, you shouldn't have to play the BS games... just depends how much you want that final product. Do you get it now?
I'd just go somewhere else, probably cheaper too
 19. [sup]What I always find funny is the anti anti Barefaced brigade that pipe up before anyone even makes a comment! [/sup]
 20.
Which status in particular?
The one about your bad neck, maybe you need a lighter bass!
 21.
Missing the point - if you want something that only a certain manufacturer can offer and can't go elsewhere... than you either don't have it, or be subject to their way of work (whether you agree with it or not!). You aren't going to get a Wal from anybody but Wal. You aren't going to get a Kingbass from anybody but Status. If you absolutely must have item "xyz" and manufacturer "abc" is the only person in the world that makes it... your options are limited. (Again, I stress, rightly or wrongly... I still stand by the fact, in that case, as crude as the words are, "put up and shut up".) And lets face it, one person's experience with a company is different to anothers. For example, my experience with a certain luthier bucks the trend of their reputation... and even if I told the story, it is unlikely to put anybody else off. Sad as it may seem, it's a case of doing your own homework and buyer beware.
I was just looking at your Facebook status dude, made for an interesting read!
 22. If I'm using pro gear and its been used for a few years it's already paid for itself imo, i wouldn't worry to much about future value of possible used prices as long as it's what you want at a price you are happy with.
