1. If I'm using pro gear and is been used for a few years it's already paid for itself imo, i wouldn't worry to much about future value it possible used prices as long as it's what you want at a price you are happy with.
2. I'd keep going on the m6 and go to bass direct
3.
My old teacher had a teal one and it was the same textured finish as the rest. I've never seen one with a proper finish. Maybe the one you saw was a prototype, or the body had been swapped/ refinished? I had a trans teal MM Stingray and it was the sexiest bass I've ever seen. Kinda regret selling it but it was expensive and wasn't the sound I like. The new ones really lack the low mid punch the old SUB's had. The new ones are god value for money but to me sound a little basic. Whereas the USA SUB's had bags of character.
A trans finish but textured?
4.
In the U.S. The finish is poly. Not sure if they ship overseas. They also run sales. http://www.musicians...ay4-bass-guitar
Those are the new ones again though not the USA made ones.
5.
I thought all USA SUB basses had the textured finish. Are there some colours which aren't textured?
The teal ones are proper trans teal, I'm sure there are others?
6.
Aren't there some variants of the USA SUB? Often seen mention of some being active 2 band preamp and some with just passive tone controls, and also some with the pickup wired parallel or some wired series?
Yep and they dont all have the artex finish either, as Stu g says above he had a teal one, I'd track down one with a regular finish, swap the pickguard, make sure its wired in parallel (or even fit a push pull for both) and put a John East preamp in it, flat the neck off with some 1200 wet and dry, job done
7. If they lost all sound on stage why did they try swapping the ampeg anyway? surely that meant the loss of signal was further up the chain? I bet there was some choice words being used after the gig and he looks a big bugger dont he
8. I would love to know exactly what bit went sh*t shaped, I know he is a pro and all that but at what point do you just put a lead into the Ampeg or Mesa and put a Di out to the desk for FOH? I can be certain any bass would have sounded better than the no bass we had for Jesus Christ Pose and Rusty cage
9. Looks like using amps as monitors could be part of the problem then, what a crazy way of doing it, what are the Ampeg cabs for?
10.
Agree with Chris, two of the same cab is twice as nice.
I actually think its three times as nice
11.
I was at the gig I saw a Mesa rig next to the ampeg rig would they not of just used that?

I was at the gig I saw a Mesa rig next to the ampeg rig would they not of just used that?
Very odd wasn't it? was it just stage dressing to create the wall for the bass tech to work behind I wonder?
12.
He gave it to photographer Ross Halfin. It's on his blog. They gave him a case as well! P
Brilliant
13. I can't remember the last time I used an amp in the studio, bass pod about 12 years ago, various di's into a myriad of computer based emulators ever since. Every engineer that has been doing it a while has always loved a stingray into the desk with the eq on the bass set flat leaving them infinite final mixes to play with
14. I know that ache well! Just have short sessions at a time for now mate, as for lessons I'm still to find anyone in the stafford area myself
15. After weighing up all the pros and cons I went for a new Gedo bass, I love it! I have been playing bass long enough to know what I am buying when having a test drive but even after 6 months with my gedo I'd be hard pushed to know a good db from a bad one or know where to look for faults etc, the gedo gave me a warranty and a bass that the general opinion is that they are decent from the factory and should be even better if and when I decide to have a luthier check and adjust it. I went for a mid range half carved bass then added spirocore strings and an adjustable bridge which they did with no fuss. Go for it
16. For all we know there may have been problems between the bass tech (bens personal guy) and the venues sound crew?, a bit of "its not our end must be your amps di" , swapped it and no change, bit of fiddling and a new signal path to fix it.
17. They definitely had a spare ampeg, both were stacked up as they swapped the leads over, they should have done that between songs four songs earlier. Might not have been the ampegs at fault unless they were both faulty but doing nothing lead to a free p bass for someone and another ruined.
18. The problem with generators (and inverters if using batteries) is the sine wave shape rather than the voltage, people test the voltage and declare it to be suitable but the sine wave shape will upset digital and audio gear, not great for us musicians eh? This gives a simple version of sine waves. http://www.hightechgenerators.com.au/what-is-sine-wave-and-what-does-it-do.aspx
19.
I think that is exactly who you blame if you have no bass out front... and on stage for that matter.
I'm with JT, he was having trouble before the total loss for a few songs from where I was stood, even if I was doing the sound for free down the youth club I'd have stepped in between songs to either swap the head or put a di in place just in case it went off totally. The only way it would be the bass players fault in this case would be if Ben had told them in no way was he prepared to play the gig with anything other than the cab mic'd off the ampeg.
20. Afaik we can't actually hear the lows at the frequency where the damage may have occurred? What frequency does the amp shelve at? My genz amps shelve around 80hz or lower to 37hz with the lf boost engaged, anything lower than that is just sucking power and quietly ruining the speakers.
21. That's why I bought my max head Ian, its a very complex amp in a very simple box, fet channel and valve channel with their own EQs, I can see more amps going this way, the twin input will be great for Sheehan fans and anyone with a real stereo Ric!
