  1. I guess the number of guitarists all depends on their attitude and ability, sometimes the attitude is a cover for their lack of ability. I was in a band called Crossfire (similar to someone elses band reading this ) the second guitarist was the lead vocalist and was quite a tidy player but really liked the guitar as a prop and was happy to strum along, the other guitarist was brilliant but totally volume driven, lead break crazy, between them it just about worked, [u]just[/u] though.
  2. I am back in a band with one guitar for the first time in years, I love it! Some bits I make busier to fill in for a missing guitar, some bits he does more than he would as either gtr 1 or gtr 2. As long as we discuss any parts we are not happy with and work something out it is good or sometimes we decide the song is not worth it so we bin it and choose another , not an option for original material I know but for covers there are loads of songs out there to learn. We have a female singer singing songs not only sang by women so one guitar rather than 2 on the record (more like 3 tracks each in the studio!) is not really an issue. Almost every Bruno Mars track we have covered is in ERB on the CD yet always on a four string live, deciding where to sit the guitar and bass regarding octaves has been tricky and so far not played the same twice at the gigs

As for arguing against it, all the talk of it's not a legal requirement, ask to see the venues fixed wiring report to display the size of your penis and scare them into submission is what i meant rather than anyone suggesting the test itself is flawed, less of it this time as it's in repairs and technical rather than general discussion.
  4. Why would anyone take the earth lead off? And as above ground lift is only between items like a di where it is earthed both ends and creates a loop, the earth connection from the socket to the chassis is fixed or should be hence why i just do a little test with a multi meter from the socket pin or plug pin on a combo amp for example where the lead is glanded off into the amp.
  5. I prefer Pattitucci on double bass but I quite liked the groove mostly played by the guy who did the worst solo (mine are similar, awful).
  6. Our gear is high risk, portable, used in anger quite often (drum stands on leads etc) and most importantly class 1 meaning that it is earthed. I too don't test delicate gear either but I do test the lead and use a multimeter to check continuity from the earth pin to the chassis on the device. Why we would argue about doing that once a year even if it cost you £2 per item I have no idea?

I'm loving these Geoff, just watched the two walking bass lines lessons and I'm right there somewhere ability wise and theory wise, first lesson I'm probably getting close to but the second one was pushing my limit so I can really focus on everything you have said there and I will download the exercises too. I have learnt more in the last week due to your clips than I have all year! Brilliant Can I make a suggestion? Bow lesson, I'm terrible with a bow but I think a lot of my trouble stems from incorrect bow tension and rosin application, if I could get a better sound from it I would be more inclined to practice scales with it. I might need to get a lesson with it just so a teacher can try my bows and show me where im going wrong?(Yita french carbon bow and free german bow that came with my gedo), ta.
  9. That's fair enough I'd feel the same, just trying to juggle everything and everyone I guess. I'm sure he could have a bigger store, employ some kids, stock cheap christmas tat and have all the stuff pmt do but then we would lose another shop that sells rarer brands as floor space would dictate, I'm not sure I can take another shop full of fender basses and ashdown amps!
  10. To be fair most of us are used to big stores like guitar guitar or pmt, this is a small unit stuffed with pro gear run by mostly one person so its not a place where you can wonder around while Mark shows someone a bass expecting one on one attention which you get if you ask.

Regarding serving other people when you haven't rang in first, I can imagine the post on here saying they had rang weeks in advance to try a £3k bass and £3k amp, had cash in their pocket yet Mark was too busy serving some guy who called in on the off chance even though they had specifically arranged to be there while the tc rep was there sorting their fx unit! Can't win can he?

  15. Makes a change from it setting on fire, good invention the fuse! I sold my Ashdown on Ebay for spares or repairs £1200 amp sold for £275, glad to see the back of it Good bargain though, I have found the cheaper the range the better the sound regarding Ashdown.

I think class d amps are ace for this, I take a shuttle 3.0 as a spare to my 6.0 or the 6.0 as backup to the shuttlemax9.2 if it is a larger gig where losing stage sound isn't ideal, all three heads have a good quality di too handy for recording or live stuff. Not really a fair comparison to a di box cost wise though.
  18. P basses but in garish colours with covered pole piece pickups. Bright Blue with white pickguard and pickups/knobs spring to mind.
  19. Ah ok I will check that out, ta, certainly my main problem but at least I can spot it now and give myself a slap when I use my 3rd finger (not worried about thumb position yet where I understand the 3rd finger comes back in?)
  20. A few updates to add- I think I have found the root of my feedback problem, the tail piece! I haven't used the gedo at volume since the last post but I was playing around at home with the fishman and bassmax (now fitted on the treble side) I didnt have my home made f hole covers on and it started to feedback but I was right in front of the speaker, I brushed my arm past the tail piece as I was crouching down adjusting the eq, I hadnt plucked a note but it was vibrating loads! Chunk of the grey stagg packing foam behind the tail piece, sorted.....hopefully... Next up I have been studying Geoffs fantastic clips on youtube, spent some time on finger spacing/left hand technique in general and shifting, as I already know how to play regular bass I think this is going to be the key to improving. I'm really trying to play double bass rather than elec bass on end, I didnt understand before when people said this but I do get it now although I have a lot of work to do don't get me wrong. No more 3rd finger notes and crossing strings in position is really tightening up my intonation, shifting is now my worst problem I'd say so my next few practices need to focus in on that, Geoffs clip will be worn out! Nearly forgot, practice tomorrow hopefully without feedback, first proper db gig this Saturday!

  24. Yep another Gedo user here, brilliant company to deal with and you only need to hear Bilbo play his to see how good they can be in the right hands, ie not mine!.
