1. A few of the strippers I have seen had bits falling off and would look better behind a mesh cloth too
2. The only thing to remember though is that all the experts want to improve it's tone, take out the mid bump etc blah blah, with an open mind that's progress and might be a good thing, the guy who was happy before other than the weight now wants his mid bump back or the 'fixed' dispersion as it was for the last 30 years.
3. I have said this before but I will say it again, the problem we have at the moment is that all boffins want to build the best cab they can using all the facts and figures possible, what most players want is their normal sound with all it's faults (as boffins see them) but in a light weight package, as soon as the boffins iron out the faults with a 4x10 folks here don't like it! The first manufacturer that builds an 8x10 with all it's faults regarding the cab tuning but half the weight they will be millionaires!
4. Nothing particularly bespoke floats my boat right now but you need to take a step back and think of the monthly costs of a small builder, a workshop, a few peoples wages, the materials, a van, costs for advertising and stands at shows, the builders hourly rate based on the fact most of us here couldn't do it, investing in new machines and equipment, testing and time spent trying new techniques out of hours at their own cost. It's not long before you can see why a factory paying less than our minimum wage often with awful conditions (who here has a cort built bass?) that knocked off the whole design anyway can charge a fraction of that. I have been known to tease Alex bare faced but I appreciate what I said above goes for him and other bespoke builders of anything really. If all the cheap basses were built in a factory that met our minimum standards as a work place I'd imagine they would all go up at least £50. Looking just at someone like musicman the cost of living for the staff in California alone must account for a lot, if not I'd live there myself, already seen an area near San Jose I like
5. Thanks, I'm near Stafford and don't mind a little drive.
6. I have a hole from my endpin! Don't look at ubassmans picture, he has been tinkering
7.
Bass lessons!
Struggling to find anyone local at all
8. You can say bastard but not sp**k, odd.
9. If its a five string I might sp**k my pants if you put a picture on here
10. I had the laney head you mention as my spare for function band duties as my ashdown had an intermittent fault, the laney was ok actually but maybe a bit lacking in oomph for metal with crazy drummers. It was a very sturdy amp, I can't remember what I did with it, either sold on here or ebay for less than £100. I'd look for something a bit beefier just because of the volume thing on the other hand I'd recommend it for sound and build quality for the money.
11. I have met Pete, be warned he doesn't look that much like his avatar if its the sex you are planning on going for!
12. Well you cant argue with that can you!? best of luck with the sale not that you should need it
13. Oh no dont worry you have ages yet to work out how tight to have the hairs and how much rosin to put on it and which rosin to use! Then and only then will you be able to begin your journey with the misery stick
14. Done a while ago now and sold the Jazz before anyone asks
15.
Great pics!
Ta Come on where are all the big Al basses?
16. Sounds like trial and error to find the point where you can get the low set as low as possible but before it starts sucking juice for no reason, sounds like it should be plenty loud enough to me.
17. I have a yita bow too, it's quite pretty but I'm terrible at using it
18. I'm new to upright, can I post you my electric bass skills in exchange for your upright skills?
19. Just watched the how to stand with the bass video, brilliant and already learnt a few things to try even though I have watched other clips trying to explain it. I had lost interest with the idea of learning online as most of the clips I had watched were poorly filmed with sketchy ways of talking through often a lot of waffle about nothing! Yours look good and you are clear and concise, even for a numpty like me. I will be back for more as soon as possible (out for a curry tonight, motorbike ride tomorrow, practice thursday, function gig friday, you get the picture I have saved your site to my favourites too, really looking forward to lots more time spent watching and learning
