1.
I wonder how quickly it would have taken Larry Hartke to solve such a problem...
I love my Rays but I also know what a cock SB can be in these situations, I just dont feel the need to defend him like I would if I knew him personally I suppose but then again this is not a tiny scuff or a slightly larger than hoped for neck pocket, it is a pile of donkey poop
2. I am an noob to DB defcom and I am glad I didnt try and lower the action too much on my Stagg (which is easy enough to do), My DB is a bit higher and with a bit more tension too (or compliance blah blah), switching to the Stagg feels easy now after a few months on the DB so stick with it and see how you get on, you could lower it nearer to 8mm maybe if you are still in trouble but a full on DB will be a devil IMO if you go much lower, I might even raise my Stagg action which 6 months ago I would not have beleived! Good luck and you do realise you will end up with a DB with a year dont you?
3.
Eh? Have you never heard of TripAdvisor? Read a review on Amazon? Taken note of feedback on eBay? Or would you rather all this went on behind closed doors?
Unfortunatley the Fanbois of products like this get wrapped up on a personal level because understandably they are often run by one guy or a small family business, if those same people had an amp delivered for £3000 and it was faulty they would be on here in a flash if they were refused a refund from a big corporate company.
4. I appreciate that some folk on here know JC in person and love his work but man that bass is a sack of sh*t regardless of who built it, It should never have left the workshop in one piece. We all stand up for people or products we like but thats easily the worst top end bass I have ever seen albeit in pics but even still. I would have wanted my cash back within days of JC receiving the bass back at the shop, end of.
5. I still fancy a Big Al, that would be different to the Bongo but still really cool IMO, I think I want one!
6.
I agree the Stingray could of been eq'd a little better, maybe he tried to set it flat! We all know the bass full up and treble to taste is the way it's done on a ray. (at least on the 2eq) I'm also very much in the passive club when it comes to bass's.. at least for what I do. For some reason I like active soloed and recorded in a controlled environment.. but using one live with the band I'm always fiddling and never completely happy. Saying all that, another Ray is deffo on the radar at some point.
I have a John East 2 band in my Classic5 (I'm not the only one either) and for the first time ever on a 2 EQ ray I dont use the bass flat out, maybe I have turned a corner but more likely the JE just has a beefier output
7.
ah, life is so complicated these days!
Too true, anyway back to my F-Holes!
8.
Ah but if you had said it it would have been racist A
My other thread did cross my mind Jose knows me well enough for me to have made it first, others reading it might not know that or get the joke at all, I'd save it for a pm rather than over the counter of a busy shop
9.
what? Manuel does not complain...
I nearly went for that exact joke Jose but felt it a bit cheeky! Lol
10. I like AC basses, all been mint that I have seen but even the biggest fanboi would struggle to defend that bass regardless of the story surrounding it, gash.
11. Now that is very interesting too, I did think about that. I had a J tone before with two pads but now just the single K&K, I might try swapping it over as I have plenty of bass anyway, Cheers
12. I find most of the pick snobbery comes from people who can't use one, I'm not as proficient as I am with fingers but I can hold my own. In covers situations I like to throw out the idea of "my sound" and go for pick, slap, fingers etc to help get the sound for the song suitable. That said some bands can pull off doing a covers set in their style, most can't.
13. I hope you have learnt everything in them all!
14. Ahh it looks like they have just rebadged the knobs from compression to smooth and depth to notch?
15. Go for it Jose, best thing I have done for years!
16. I won't be having a full volume practice for two weeks now but I'm hoping they will work, does the newer Fishman have the notch filter?
17.
Just admitting that in public is the first foot on the slippery slope
Lurk-Stagg-DB
18. They sit quite well actually, just been playing acoustically to see what effect they have, the bass side is the side that I think will help most but it's all sub frequencies so acoustically you can't hear much difference, the treble side makes quite a lot of difference and some farting noises, not a problem once hooked up via piezo though so let's hope they work!
