1. Stripe could be rosewood actually, too dark for walnut?
2. I'd say poplar body? Alder looks more like the pine table to my eyes. Maple neck but quite low grade (graded in A's I think? The more A's the better with a tighter grain ending with birdseye?). Skunk stripe, no idea actual skunk maybe!
3.
Well of course ''Google is your friend'' here, but you're going to need a heck of a long time to work through his discography. Couldn't quite believe it myself when I had a quick look just now. Roughly equivalent, I would say, to Danny Thompson saying ''nah mate, it's your gig, I was just sitting in till you got here'' What's that? Who's Danny Thompson?
Got that one! I once jammed with Jimmy Cricket though
4. A stingray humbucker would work quite well wouldn't it
5.
I know we're not being competitive here, but as far as I can see we have a winner
I've never heard of him
6.
Great basses, well built but at the end of the day, not as well built with poorer woods than real Stingrays. For that reason, they don't now, nor ever will, be close to the value of said real stringray. £450 absolute tops. Easy to make comparisons to the JV Squiers in terms of value increase in the future (value of those still completely baffles me) however the difference is the Stingray's being made at the same time as these were better, and i would say they were selling at no more than£700 really at the moment. So £675 for this is a joke! The only thing that these may have had going for them was that they were 5 string stingrays that were in the classic format. Now that EB have brought out the new Classic series, its lost that unique factor!
I agree, heaven knows why the sr5 didnt look like the sub 5 in the first place!?
7. I was really impressed by the genz contour amp, it was at a medium sized pub too, perfect!
8.
That'd be fair! Shame he's asking £250 more than that
I appologise! I saw £500 for some reason, just looked again £675, I agree no chance
9. People generally suggest £350 for 4 string ones so a five string with a case and a stand can't be that far off £425-450 surely?
10. How far back do you go? Can I buy a 70s p bass a few hundred pound?
11. If only mate if only, I have three Rays that have come about for all sorts of reasons but the Jabba Classic is top of my list if any of the Rays end up sold on, of course by then there will either be none for sale or they will have shot up in price, seriously cool bass for a cool price IMO, come on someone get it snapped up so I dont have to have 'the discussion' with my wife again!
12. I have nothing to add
13. On the other hand travelled miles with a blues band to play to an empty marquee and many other awful gigs
14. Does it count that I am miming to a track I didn't record? (I played on the final version that went out with Prog mag though) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rONtsRRlq9U I also played some good shows with Dave before I broke my wrist last year and I played slap bass on the previous album available at all good book shops (iTunes then).
15. I had to double take Simon's user name! But goals etc yes good but work always gets in the way
16. This is why I skip the words pro set up in any for sale adverts! Long live the musicman wheel of fortune adjuster
17.
many thanks for the that I learnt this method first of all though, the erm, err, quick 'n dirty method I call it: sharps....half step above the last sharp is the key signature flats........second to last flat is the key signature many thanks guys, you took some time out to explain that, grateful
I like this not sure how to work out the key from one flat but its still good.
18.
But what is the difference, if any, between this and an American std P bass?
This is the crooks of the matter how much difference is there between any P basses really? Most people argue that a Badass is a waste of money (not me actually I liked mine) and a 1/4 pounder pickup is easy and cheap to fit!
19.
GB. 5 string. That's all. Not really that fussy.
Nah they are sh*t
20. Don't rule out an olp copy, especially if its got some nice upgrades.
21.
Genz isn't something I'd thought of, thanks for that. I was looking at their amps a day or so ago because of the valves, but not something I'd considered for the EUB.
Check this out then Ed is always the guy to go to for advice on Genz gear, the fact he uses various Genz amps himself speaks volumes to me. I'd say more likely to be a Shuttle of sorts rather than a Streamliner to get the best DB/EUB tone but I dont know? Some more reviews here http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f4/genz-benz-shuttle-6-0-12t-combo-good-choice-double-bass-829235/
22.
My pair. CB
That's a cool picture! Since I last posted in this thread I now have triplets
