1.
That'd be fair! Shame he's asking £250 more than that
I appologise! I saw £500 for some reason, just looked again £675, I agree no chance
2. People generally suggest £350 for 4 string ones so a five string with a case and a stand can't be that far off £425-450 surely?
3. How far back do you go? Can I buy a 70s p bass a few hundred pound?
4. If only mate if only, I have three Rays that have come about for all sorts of reasons but the Jabba Classic is top of my list if any of the Rays end up sold on, of course by then there will either be none for sale or they will have shot up in price, seriously cool bass for a cool price IMO, come on someone get it snapped up so I dont have to have 'the discussion' with my wife again!
5. I have nothing to add
6. On the other hand travelled miles with a blues band to play to an empty marquee and many other awful gigs
7. Does it count that I am miming to a track I didn't record? (I played on the final version that went out with Prog mag though) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rONtsRRlq9U I also played some good shows with Dave before I broke my wrist last year and I played slap bass on the previous album available at all good book shops (iTunes then).
8. I had to double take Simon's user name! But goals etc yes good but work always gets in the way
9. This is why I skip the words pro set up in any for sale adverts! Long live the musicman wheel of fortune adjuster
10.
many thanks for the that I learnt this method first of all though, the erm, err, quick 'n dirty method I call it: sharps....half step above the last sharp is the key signature flats........second to last flat is the key signature many thanks guys, you took some time out to explain that, grateful
I like this not sure how to work out the key from one flat but its still good.
11.
But what is the difference, if any, between this and an American std P bass?
This is the crooks of the matter how much difference is there between any P basses really? Most people argue that a Badass is a waste of money (not me actually I liked mine) and a 1/4 pounder pickup is easy and cheap to fit!
12.
GB. 5 string. That's all. Not really that fussy.
Nah they are sh*t
13. Don't rule out an olp copy, especially if its got some nice upgrades.
14.
Genz isn't something I'd thought of, thanks for that. I was looking at their amps a day or so ago because of the valves, but not something I'd considered for the EUB.
Check this out then Ed is always the guy to go to for advice on Genz gear, the fact he uses various Genz amps himself speaks volumes to me. I'd say more likely to be a Shuttle of sorts rather than a Streamliner to get the best DB/EUB tone but I dont know? Some more reviews here http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f4/genz-benz-shuttle-6-0-12t-combo-good-choice-double-bass-829235/
15.
My pair. CB
That's a cool picture! Since I last posted in this thread I now have triplets
16. I find special editions are often badly done in all walks of life, often for no reason that's the annoying bit for me. EBMM have made a load of reissues of weird stuff that makes no sense but they must think they will sell? I remember the Italian Job Minis from the 1990's, OK I dont expect them to recreate a MK1 mini but would it have been hard/expensive to have fitted 3 spot lights like the ones in the film rather than just the two they came with, why did they come in green rather than just Red/White or Blue? Lazy lazy tat in most cases regarding cars, guitars, watches clothes etc etc etc It does not always make for a bad item, my favourite Strat is the white Jeff Beck signature but not because of the signature if you get what I am saying.
17. The only signatures on my basses belong to the people that made them
18. Three stingrays a DB and an eub
19. My genz shuttlemax9.2 has two channels (genz amps are popular with upright bassists anyway even the single channel ones) at the moment I can use my eub without touching anything at all and I put the fishman preamp into the fx return for the db
20. Light sanding with 1200 grit paper should not deter a buyer as it can be polished out again, we are talking microscopic amounts of finish.
21.
I don't know the science behind it and I don't really care, but the fact remains that if you take a smooth piece of wood which has been lacquered to a gloss finish, push your finger into it with a reasonable pressure and then try to push your finger forwards, your finger will (not always before anyone jumps in) probably squeak and move forwards in small jerks and jumps before moving smoothly, now lightly sand the finish (not rough) and do the same with your finger, it will more likely move much more freely with no noise. It's not the material used to finish the wood as your haven't removed the material just how it's finished. When I got my new double bass, I had a fair bit of left hand noise resonating through the bass until I lightly sanded the neck, now no noise as I don't have to break that friction creating small sqeaks and noise. Heard the expression 'squeaky clean'? Why does your finger squeak as you run it down a clean wet plate? Surely as it's smooth and the water acts as a lubricant there can't be any squeaks, why does your finger grip the plate and then make a noise as you break that friction? Now try and make the same 'squeaky clean' squeak with a slightly rougher surface, it won't work.
This is my finding even down to the double bass, mine was the same. Engine bores are honed with a cross hatch pattern so the oil is retained to stop the piston rings burning out or in our case hand gripping the neck, maybe we should lube up before playing
22. Your hand and bass neck are different materials. One thing is certain, if you flat the glossy neck back with 1200 grit wet and dry then the stickyness is reduced. What yo want is a predictable grip, think of glass again and your hand grips well but then lets go altogether, that's what makes the squeek. Some glossy necks are stickier than others though and I agree that might be the finish type in some cases.
23. Yep I like that
