If its a cheap/project bass then it does not matter anyway. If its a more valuable bass then buyers need to see things like - neck date/type stamps, - body date stamps, - neck pocket finish showing original maskings, - preamp or pot date markings and original solder joints, - rear of the pickguard may show originality and usually hide any 'extra' pickup routes often hacked out! Different basses have different little quirks that clued up buyers will ask for too so in many cases it is a must, I certainly would not buy a vintage bass without seeing the rear of pickup and the control cavity.

(not had a mi bass but from memory my ABM only had an EQ switch) you will still get the valve grind or whatever it is called on each model and the actual preamp's own tone rather than just using the power amp stage to amplify whatever it is you have put into the FX return (if you have one).

Yep another shuttler here, I use the return from my Fishman pro when using the upright bass as the two together are not great, the Genz on its own is actually OK for DB but you dont get the features of the Fishman. I have never tried the aux in Alex would it be any different? Also I cant see an amp liking a power amp fed into the return, how much can you put in there without blowing something? Sorry I am not very clued up with the holes on the rear panel of most amps

[/quote] I used to do all originals, Stingray-Zoom fx-Ashdown every gig for 5 years no problem at all then I ventured into function/wedding bands (and Basschat!) thats when a more versatile rig has helped but I have also learnt more styles and techniques to cover the genres on a single H ray of sorts where others would choose either a Jazz/multi pup bass or a selection of basses, it is all in the fingers as they say

[/quote] I agree, if you read my post what I'm saying is that you can get closer to flats or dull old rounds with rounds and an eq than you can get an old set of flats to sizzle

We have been here before haven't we? Some peoples idea of top or treble or zing is very different to the next mans, flats on a p bass through an Ashdown won't get you even close to a GB bass through an ebs rig it just won't! Sure the P might sound good but the GB can be cut and shaped to get close, certainly close enough for a covers band situation playing varied music, that's why people use those kind of set ups

I wondered how long it would be before the 5 string thing was debated on this post, fwiw in my old band we did do songs that would be impossible in reality on a four string bass no matter how you tuned it as they were arranged pieces written on a five string bass going across and up the neck in equal measure

Did an outdoor stage last week with my 1x12, no problems at all, big stage but the drummer and guitarist could hear me fine saved me lugging the 2x12 across a field, didnt even ask for any bass in my monitor even though they had a very tasty pa set up.

Just for the photo its back in the bedroom now! Bowing=terrible I really need a few lessons but I have a wrist op in september so its not worth it until after the op, by then I will have lots more bad habits

Chicken feed compared to proper basses $4500 dollars will get you a decent but student quality upright bass, another $800 will buy you a set of gut strings to put on it and if you sold the stacked knob Jazz at the top of the list you will even be able to buy a pernambuco bow so you can hear it!

I'm new to db but I wonder if the tail gut (?) Is offset and the vibrations are making it move across? I know mine needs putting straight since the last time I had the bridge off but I can't be bothered to mess right now as its sounding and playing well.

I'm on the lookout for a k&k bassmax
