1.
The last thing you want to be involved in is.... 15 min turnarounds..
Unless like some of us you are happy to entertain an audience with less than the perfect setup at every gig you ever do, then you can just stand a bit nearer your amp and rock out, hopefully the crowd will get up and dance and all will be well in the world for the 40 mins you play for
2.
If you were playing in a covers band and needed to emulate a range of sounds with a single bass, I could see this being a workable approach. I guess I'm fairly lucky to play in originals bands where I can seek out the sound I like and use it as I see fit rather than having to cover all bases. If I can't get sizzle out of my setup, no-one misses it!
I used to do all originals, Stingray-Zoom fx-Ashdown every gig for 5 years no problem at all then I ventured into function/wedding bands (and Basschat!) thats when a more versatile rig has helped but I have also learnt more styles and techniques to cover the genres on a single H ray of sorts where others would choose either a Jazz/multi pup bass or a selection of basses, it is all in the fingers as they say
3.
I've never understood the people who claim that bright new roundwounds can be made to sound like flats or even older rounds simply through EQ. The character is quite different, and I think it's as much in the attack and decay as the overall frequency content. I like flats or tapes with the upper mids and highs boosted slightly, they can still be bright but in a way that has grunt rather than metallic clang or zing. I can't get the same sound by using a set of new roundwounds and turning down my tone control - I've tried and it's a different thing entirely.
I agree, if you read my post what I'm saying is that you can get closer to flats or dull old rounds with rounds and an eq than you can get an old set of flats to sizzle
4. We have been here before haven't we? Some peoples idea of top or treble or zing is very different to the next mans, flats on a p bass through an Ashdown won't get you even close to a GB bass through an ebs rig it just won't! Sure the P might sound good but the GB can be cut and shaped to get close, certainly close enough for a covers band situation playing varied music, that's why people use those kind of set ups
5. It looks like a cello!
6. Embrace the active electronics
7. I wondered how long it would be before the 5 string thing was debated on this post, fwiw in my old band we did do songs that would be impossible in reality on a four string bass no matter how you tuned it as they were arranged pieces written on a five string bass going across and up the neck in equal measure
8. Did an outdoor stage last week with my 1x12, no problems at all, big stage but the drummer and guitarist could hear me fine saved me lugging the 2x12 across a field, didnt even ask for any bass in my monitor even though they had a very tasty pa set up.
9. Just for the photo its back in the bedroom now! Bowing=terrible I really need a few lessons but I have a wrist op in september so its not worth it until after the op, by then I will have lots more bad habits
10. Luck wished
11. Looks nice, Is it hard to swap between sizes, I imagine it is?

13. Yay I am learning, I might even align my own after tonights practice in honour of this thread
14. Chicken feed compared to proper basses $4500 dollars will get you a decent but student quality upright bass, another $800 will buy you a set of gut strings to put on it and if you sold the stacked knob Jazz at the top of the list you will even be able to buy a pernambuco bow so you can hear it!
15. I'm new to db but I wonder if the tail gut (?) Is offset and the vibrations are making it move across? I know mine needs putting straight since the last time I had the bridge off but I can't be bothered to mess right now as its sounding and playing well.
16. I'm on the lookout for a k&k bassmax
17. I'm still fighting feedback issues, sometimes I winner if I should have saved a couple of hundred quid and gone full laminate?
18. I could probably do your dep dude if I had a year to learn the set, by then I think the gig will have gone! Upright is where it's at anyway as you our demo is mastered actually and the pics are done, bit lame compared to yours now though, diner night next week?
19. The biggest missed opportunity bass wise will always be the graphite necked Flea Ray
20. But he was playing in California one night , russia the next!
21. Nice to see your perfect gig for the white GB Russ too, you must be the busiest bass player already, I don't know how you will find any spare dates! Wish I was good enough to pick up your deps
22. If you are going to look inside then the first place to look is the earth connections both incoming and through to the input jack socket, if your not sure what you are doing let someone else fix it anyway
