1. Too late, the 2 EQ is in now I just fancied keeping it sort of normal and I have my other rays for three band fun. Still tinkering at the moment but I will update once I get a better idea of it.
2. Well mine has the East preamp now, only done one gig with it since with no practice before at all so I'm still experimenting with it, so far so good although I reckon its probably got more of the one trick pony stingray sound some people think of compared to my 3 eq and pickup selectable Ray 5s. Its a beautiful bass though so I'm hoping I can get it sorted, pickup height might be too high now and I think I need to be more subtle with the east preamp compared to the stock one, practice on thursday to fettle a bit.
3. The audience are of no importance to me regarding my personal bass though, if the OP has a hankering for a pre EB then no amount of EBMMs will cure the hankering, that unfortunatley is the nature of hankering I had an occasion where the jumped up kids from another band were laughing at my Stingray copy (as they had obviously lusted over EBMM ones online or in shops and recognised the wrong logo etc) after the gig one of their older friends who knew me walked right past them in the green room straight over to me "f***ing hell is that a proper pre Ernie Ball Stingray!" the look on the bass players face was priceless when the rest of his band looked at him after they had listened to him rant on all night with his expert knowledge on my fake Stingray
4. I am loving the upright bass and have enjoyed a few of the clips on your youtube link philparker, thanks
5. Even the best true bypass tuners can still alter your signal imo, tuner out for the win
6.
I would struggle to understand why anyone would pay silly amounts for a pre-ernie ball Musicman over the new Musicman Classic series, unless they were a collector. (may as well start the ruck )
There isn't much in them price wise but the pre eb will at least hold its value or maybe go up, the new ones have not got the thump of the old ones which may be down to the pickup pole piece lengths or the windings?
7.
I can honestly say that the only Stingray I've played that was a disappointment was a pre-EB MM. And I've played a lot of Stingrays.
Where as I own three ebmm ones right now and I had another before plus two pre eb rays, both the pre eb ones played and sounded better than all the ebmm ones I have owned or played. My Classic 5 is the best as far build quality goes but I have had to fit a john east 2 band preamp in it as the factory one was naff even though its meant to be just like a pre eb one, its still not perfect though and might end up with a new pickup too!
8. I don't think I own anything British bass wise? Hang on John east preamp in my classic ray! All the bits are probably Chinese though.
9.
We all bought fenders... didn't we?
Nope
10. Exactly so I prefer to just buy the ones I like, I would have anything from anywhere really
11. Now you can see why a lot of people swear by the Musicman wheel of fortune truss rod adjuster! You should be feeling a fair bit of tension on the allen key as you turn it, 1/4 turn is enough quite often although with this weather it might need more but if you are seeing no difference then something is wrong, badly fitting tools are the worst enemy, my saddle screws are ruined on my Classic5 from people using the wrong size keys so I have ordered a new set but thats a £2200 bass being attacked with sh*te tools! Make sure you have the correct size allen key before going any further because once that head is rounded off you are poop
12.
I think I know what your talking about Pete. Normally with one of the Bands I play with I use 2 EBS CL 112's for practice and gigs and a Aguilar TH500, today I took along my GB212 neo xt as we have an outdoor gig on Sunday and thought I could do with the extra umph as most of our smaller gigs guitars and bass are never FOH .. anyway at practice same room, same volume the drummer turned to me after 2 songs and said ahh so that's what your you playing He could hear and feel it, seems the porting and and 2-12's stuck in the same box do have some magic.. or so it would seem.
Well I would agree but I am told that if you cut your cab in half and seal the ends up, stack them up and turn back on they will behave and sound exactly as 2x12s? I would certainly be interested to compare my Neox2x12T with a pair of Neox1x12T cabs, I have one 1x12 but it is the one with the smaller cabinet so not a fair comparison to use another one of those (which I could as a mate has one).
13.
I'm beginning to feel that I should buy British stuff. I have an Ashdown head and a Barefaced cab - both of which I am really pleased with. What are my options for actual bass guitars?
Just playing devils advoctae really but, where are the components made for Ashdown and where are they assembled? Barefaced I know are constructed here but where are the drivers made and where does the wood, grilles and coatings come from?
14.
My observations on the shuttle are based on using GB cabs. I git rid of my 6 and 3 long before I had the chilis
I have the twin channel Shuttlemax 9.2 too so that's not really an issue these days
15.
Although it wouldn't surprise me for the Genz to outperform the PCs, I really wouldn't expect such a vast difference. I wonder if one of the PC's had been mistakenly wired with reverse polarity so that they were cancelling each other out at low frequencies? By the way, we have something new impending with extended frequency response (highs to ~20kHz) and similar size, weight, sensitivity and maximum output to the Compact (comparable to good 2x12"s rather than 1x12"s).
That sounds very feasible to me.
16.
Very interesting as i get massive volume out of mine. even with my TC BH250. Always felt my shuttle 6.0 was light on watts IMO I've managed to fill an auditorium with one cab and a promethean head at mofat
Me and the other bassist both had a shuttle 6.0 head, and he had 2 1x12 cabs set up already so we agreed that we might as well just use his cabs but with our own heads so we stacked them up, as soon as I tried it I knew it was struggling (might be why you thought the genz was short on power?) My shuttle 3.0 with my own cabs would have blown it away! Maybe they were a duff pair or something but you know how it is once you have first hand experience of something not working how you want.
17. I'd rather just have a light weight head and a small cab for now, all you need to do after is buy a bigger/another cab when you start gigging, you can also use the head at practices before with their cabs to get a feel for the heads controls?
18. I'm not sure what the exact models were but same room, same head, same bass and the difference was massive, it still remains the highest I have needed to put the output on my shuttle six and it was a tiny room. I thought maybe a 2x12 might be better than two 1x12s but the experts here say not.
19. I did a direct comparison with a pair of purple chilli 1x12 to my genz 2x12T , the drop in volume and clarity when I used the purple ones was epic, the owner put them for sale on this site the day after
20. Ace, not long until you get a db now then, I lasted a few weeks!
21. The guy in the lakland clip you can find in the neck relief thread doesn't loosen them at all, personally I like to take the neck tension up by pulling the neck back by hand at the same time as adding or removing tension to the truss rod.
22. Read my thread mate, foam from the packing it came in looks good as it is grey
