stingrayPete1977 replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in EUB and Double Bass
That's the guy who is selling the David gage on Ebay I think, has one on here but his advert is locked, unpaid fees? -

I'm going to have a bid later on the bass max then, if I remember! -

I guess that makes sense too actually, I'm away for a few days but I well try removing a shim of cardboard from each piezo and see if it helps, does it matter if I put the card above or below the tabs? I currently have the card against the wings and the tabs against the bridge itself. -
Oh yeah I see that now, whoops! I replied to BetaFunk and went to give the dog his breakfast so I never saw the other replies. I blame the dog for everything these days. He does all my farts for me too. :-)
Bloody dogs eh

That makes you the third person to have a stab at that point Tnit, let's see if it turns our any better, your post read the same as mine to me so I doubt it!

That sounds promising then as mine is super tight in both slots but nowhere near clipping any input! Might have a cheeky bid tomorrow...... -
For clarity, i cant see what you dont understand or how thats not related but there you go, its hot out
I don't buy basses that I can't go and collect in person. I've gone to Newcastle, Liverpool, Goole and Nottingham so far. I've received less valuable items that were packed really badly so I wouldn't risk it with a bass.

I can understand that to a certain extent but how do you think that the bass gets from the manufacturer to the customer in the first place?

What difference does that make, I would only collect in person for a valuable bass so as long as it got to the shop ok I'd be buying from them, if its snapped in half before it even gets there that's not my problem is it? I don't even mind a display model if its mint or reduced to suit, no point getting the boxed one home to find it damaged, faulty electronics or just not as nice as the display one you tried

Again i fail to see what that has got to do with what i said.
I can't really help then, as you were

Considering trading my compact for a 212 :S

Or a Genz neox2x12T -
First thing you have the luxury of is two pickups, turn one off then the other and see what effect each one has, maybe lower the bass end of the one causing the trouble if its obvious and go from there
Ater reading the perils of sending a bass i'm thinking of picking up my new Fender from the U.S. Does anyone know what airport is nearest to the Fender factory and how much the flight will cost taking in to consideration that i will require two seats so that the bass does not get damaged on the journey. I presume that every guitar and bass manufacturer does this otherwise how on earth do they arrive in the U.K. undamaged?
But you are not dealing with them are you? Annoying if it gets damaged but ultimately not your problem is it, that's what your uk franchised dealer is there for.

That mic looks pretty cool but I like the idea of the Bassmax from what you say, my playing is awful anyway but maybe if I could hear it then I will play better! Which wing slot do you have the Bassmax fitted to? and does it give a reasonable level of output as I think that is where my problems start, I have 3 different Genz amps and a choice of 1x10, 1x12 and a 2x12 cabs with the fishman plat pro I am hoping to get in nailed once the pickup is sorted -
I'd much rather meet halfway even if it costs me more, that goes for buying, selling or trading.

Just noticed the realist looks like it belongs to a member here but the advert is locked at the moment? steve-norris? -
K&K bassmax was probably next on my buying list here on ebay, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111117226687?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Thomanns new, http://www.thomann.de/gb/kk_bass_max.htm This has caught my eye at a reasonable price and looks easier to fit tightly? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281135103052?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648 Big saving even at the buy it now price of thomanns, http://www.thomann.de/gb/david_gage_the_realist_bass_life_line.htm I have a J-tone fitted at the moment (the one with two black tabs in the wing slots) I dont have much output going into my Fishman so that has to be maxxed out to get anything useful, more often just feedback issues

I'd be happier if the mods could sort the "trade or sale" script that can't be altered or removed, lots of offers for trades because you can't get rid of the trade price!
-
Errr isn't their a fairly well know guy that made his name playing both musicman and Warwick basses..........singer wears a silly hat......
-
As in just the basses or bass and amp combinations? I'd mix any basses in my collection other than a ric.

I played an EUB today (and I liked it)
Better start saving for an acoustic double bass now then, it's an inevitable and slippery path
Yep! Took my DB to practice tonight, still having trouble getting a good live sound where the stagg is brilliant! loving my DB though. -
I'm finding it hard to find a teacher at all so I'm swaying towards it more each day.
-
Funnily enough someone posted about the Genz Benz contour amps the other day, I had never tried one at that point but I went to a jam on sunday and the resident bassist had one, it was bloody ace! really good solid versatile bass sound, reasonably portable, sounded better with his Squier P bass than my £2200 Stingray Classic5 which I have now had to order a John East preamp for to try and sort it out

Sarah suggested this to me when I asked a similar question, I have been looking at it and I think I might go for it! I have a wrist op in september so I might just wait until then and I work in schools during the 6 week hoilday so I will be flat out on that too so I might not get the time to practice as much as I will after the op (hopefully) Looks good though Sarah, ta.
