1. I love the sound of p basses but not always with me playing them, might be worth another look though and I like a good Squier too.
2.
I'd really LOVE to have a proper go at that! Maybe I could sell a Fender for one!
Go for it, I sold one of my two pre eb stingrays to get one, I'm loving it
3. I'm looking forward to a weekend in on my own to have a listen/learn of all these tracks
4. Nice to see him doing exactly as I said earlier as a relief check, no sign of him measuring anything beyond the 12th The other thing I picked up on and see on lots of basses on here and at gigs is this angling the saddles to the board, totally pointless and wrong with a round string in a rounded saddle slot, just raise the saddle to the height ,I like all my strings about 2.5mm off the 12th fret, B maybe a bit higher but don't angle the saddle.
5. You can get an upright for the same money (just), much more fun!
6. I will report back once it is fitted, I did think about one of the replica MM ones but the standard EBMM one is meant to be just the same although it is now on a fancy green pcb instead of a breadboard thing, fingers crossed it will be here soon
7. The only answer to these threads is "Bassdirect trip" (or similar) everyone else will just tell you to get what they have, I can almost guess who will say what and in what order! I will start off by saying get a Genz Shuttlemax 9.2, valve channel and FET channel either on their own or blended into a 900w Class D output, foot switch controlable too
8.
No professional engineer wants to rely on your amp and cable if he doesn't have to. No professional engineer wants your cab EQ through his rig also. You may be using a 2x10 and he has a 20k rig. A nice analogy would be you EQing your amp for your 2x10 then using that amp with a 4x12 and leaving the EQ the same. It would almost certainly not suit the different cab. Well that's what the house engineer faces when you walk in to a club and insist on "your sound". Get over it, your sound is probably like a million others anyway >>>>>>>>>>>runs
I actually agree with this, I find the bands with their sound have a sh*t sound and the bands that give a clean Di to the desk and keep their amp fairly low on stage get the best sound, it might not be the sound they have tailored in the rehersal room but a good sound is better than a sh*t sound everyday. Stingray-fairly flat EQ maybe a bit of extra bass-good quality lead into either a DI box or taken from my good quality amp's DI pre EQ and leave them to it IMO/E
9. Ordered a two band, I need that classic two band tone in my life,I just wish musicman had made a five string in the 70's
10.
OK, time out. It's one thing to have a celebratory Fender thread - god knows it's happened before and it'll happen again. But when the "headstock fell off because I breathed on it" anecdotes and random but specific piss taking of other brands start appearing then that's when I hold up my yellow card. It's one thing to be happy with what you've got, but it's quite another to scoff at what others hold dear.
I wasn't aware you were a mod? That said I agree really, more fender bashing please
11. I have just been practicing on the normal elec bass for some upcoming gigs, I just really want to play DB/EUB instead now, felt like a wasted night!
12. That sounds like a technique issue to me, I am quite a clicky player and stingrays have an inherant click anyway but I just had a play to see where it comes from and I am not playing any other strings, try getting a better angle with your fingers or pick more over the top rather than brushing over maybe, also I dont know what anyone else does but I think I tend to mute with my left hand in some subconcious way other than the note I want?
13. Im litterally sitting looking at the John East site now trying to decide if I should put a 2 or 3 EQ preamp in this Classic5? My heart says 2EQ my head says 3EQ for the getting in the mix as 4 strings states
14.
I have no real objection to the dots on appearance grounds but I'd rather learn without them. I assume the Stagg has side markers though? I've read through your thread, SRP, and that and the one on TB will give me plenty of modding ideas.
I dont mind the side ones on the Stagg so much but the little ones all over the front on some of the NX basses confuse the hell out of me! All easy mods except the strings being 4/4 length so dont but 3/4 ones unless you want the hassle of drilling the bridge out etc, right pain. My Stagg is brilliant now with its Spiros and the mods done, no hiss, nice tone, easy to play, portable and the audience really like it, they are also totally amazed at it only costing £300 after quite a few folk have asked me after gigs
15. I am still having trouble with my setup, I have the plat pro now so its either my lack of ability to set the plat pro up well or the cheap piezo, this thread is making me think I need a K&K just to have the standard gear? (Spiros, K&K and Plat Pro)
16. I find the dots confusing, too many of them! Gorgeous things to look at though.
17. The stagg is much more like the real thing, great value for money especially if you do the little modifications.
18. Only want fivers these days hence the Classic5 but its no pre eb as far as ooomph is concerned
19. I am finding my Classic a bit gutless, its certainly no match for a proper pre eb. Afaik the 2 band preamp has never changed since the last pre eb version with electrolytic caps but I am hoping a john east preamp will sort it out unless the pickup is naff?
