Thinking of having a total bass cull!
stingrayPete1977 replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in Bass Guitars
It does look the nuts, its hard to spot that it is a five string really, looks like a normal ray but a very tasty one! -

Its a great bass no doubt about it but I do have two very similar ones and hopefully as backup to the Classic from now on, back to the joy of 2 band stingray goodness:) -
As one of the guilty parties I can honestly say it was a pleasurable experience whatever word you use to describe it And what's more, no cameras were involved (well certainly none that I'm aware of!)
Bass dogging must go on all over the uk every weekend! Looking forward to practice on thursday -
NBD: EBMM SUB, "wine vomit" purple. May re-spray?

Maybe, the one thing that is certain is that there were a lot of them sent out in series unless we were amazingly lucky! -
Nick bought my Stingray 5 Classic. A charming fellow, a smooth-as-silk transaction, all round good guy - deal with confidence. Thanks!
And now its mine! Traded my awesome beloved pre EB Ray with Nick in a proper gathered around a car boot at the Holiday Inn transaction that we all know and love, cheers Nick

I give you the new addition to the EBMM collection! Pre EB gone to the top bloke that is Old Horse Murphy as he wanted a Classic4 because of his duff hand and I wanted a Classic5 because of my duff wrist, bit of a meeting in a carpark bit of ooohing and looking at basses some folding cash (rude to tell to who or how much) and there you have it, everyones a winner.....until I want my pre EB back obviously Leaves the wall looking like this The blue SR5 might go if I fall in love with the Classic and I can then be a bit more adventurous, still like the look of them Jabba5 classics or maybe something totally different but 5 string for sure? -
Pete - we have the same yearning for the Musicman signature tone...I've often tried either A) giving up and just keeping what I've got or B ) looking at fairly exotic but 'same old Leo design' Jazz 5ers. I come back to the Musicman basses....every time. Yes, a cutom builder can get very close with similar pups/positions/EQ...but, and this is the big but, only a Musicman sounds like a Musicman. Even the Sandberg basses with the H in the right place sound different....cleaner, more modern, less growl and punch. It's cool to have variety though, I agree, but everytime I hear a Ray, I hear the tone I wanted from when I was 11/12 years old listening to lots of different genre's yet still have that Musicman tone. Incredibly distinctive. It's quite easy to mimic a 60s/70s Jazz tone...but I've yet to hear anything sound like a Ray. It is, in my opinion, the best bass tone. Closely followed by a P bass, and then the Jazz.
Well you will like my next post then....... -
But I really think you should keep it. And you know I'm right.
Too late! -
I went through this yesterday, not very clear is it! Just go to the donations link (where we used to chuck a few quid in the pot after a sale/trade) thats why I never looked there, nor are you making a donation are you but hey ho thats the place to click and pay your fees, also someone said If you start filling in a for sale thread it will guide you through but I never tried that way ,best of luck
You should keep your rays IMHO - if that's the bass sound you hear in your head then nothing else will suffice! The classic 5, if the 4 is anything to go by, will be stunning. My 4 has TI flats - and I still managed to get a decent sound for aeroplane by RHCP in a gig last week - it even surprised me - then back to the thud for some Beatles covers!!
I think maybe you are right, if only they made a proper pre EB 5 string I would be set!
Why look at those when you can try the 5-string Lull T-Bass or one of the 5-string Lightwaves?
Well maybe once I have done phase 1 of my master plan I will be more open to some left wing ideas (compared to the boring old Leo designs), again watch this space -

There was a thread a while ago and most of the SUBs checked were series, Jose has at some point owned most of them since -
Just switched over now ta, Dick Dale with his left handed right hand strung strat

The ones with the springy grip ring ruin your bass and amp at the same time! Mate of mine has a tasty mesa head that can only be used with those leads now, utter cack.

STAGG EUB BROKEN VOLUME POT
stingrayPete1977 replied to craigonbass's topic in Repairs and Technical
Some people had faulty preamps on early ones and got sent new preamps by thomann so there must be loads of spare volume pots on boards people have kept, if only there was a way of contacting someone with one! Fwiw you can't have mine -

Fees paid, Jazz listed....going to have some dinner and a good think about possible other listings later! keeping the Rays is probably a good idea but the black one is staying anyway 100% as its worth more to me than I could sell it for anyway unless I can track down the original owner who still has its fretless neck with colour matched headstock! -
Cant change the original price now but the new price is £275, thanks. Hi relisted as I let the advert slip when the fees came in and wasn't too fussed at the time but I dont play it live anymore as I really am a five string player these days. It has a few light swirls and soft dinks but nothing major. Ideally I would like either cash on collection or meet half way from Stafford depending on the deal/distance. Any questions or specific pics please ask as I know I will have forgotten something
