1. I know this came up in the latest repeat discussion about fees but how do you pay them, why is there no clear link for any new members etc and does anyone want to buy my modded Squier Jazz bass?
2.
Pete, fwiw, the SR5 pi5535 all over the Lakky......in my very humble opinion of course ;-)
You are just biased like me
Also.....there is no such thing as 'the one' some days you're a Status person sometimes a MM flats your boat, we're a contrary bunch. Hang on to your preeb you'll only regret it down the line. All it asks is that you pick it up occasionally.
I know, I know.....
3. Multi quote went mad had to chop it up a bit 'TRBboy' Order a Custom spec Sandberg Basic Ken Taylor 5 and have a load of change left! Nice bass but the change will only get spent on some crap for the house or something, losing a pre EB Ray and a 2010 SR5 for some curtains and stuff will upset me forever! 'uncle psychosis' Do it. I'm definitely coming round to the "one bass plus a backup" point of view. Get one great bass and play the crap out of it I had that with the pre EB Ray and was very happy until I switched to 5 strings for someone elses project for a couple of years, now I only want 5! Arghh 'ambient' I've got 7 basses and I'm planning on buying 2 more this summer, so I vote keep them all . I have fond memories of basses that I've sold and wish that I hadn't. A pre EB Stingray is close to top of my list of 'some day I will own' basses, together with a '77 Jazz and a '60's Precision. Well I did have 4 Stingrays until a few months ago with plans to buy a Classic Ray 5 aswell taking me to 5 Rays spanning '79 '82 '07 '10 '13 double bass put an end to that and jeez is DB an expensive hobby! 'chris_b' If you're considering a USA 55-94 I'd also look at the Skylines in the FS section. They look pretty good and will sound and play just as good as a US model. Possibly as an aswell as, I would not want to sell my pre EB or Ray 5 to fund a Skyline even though they are as well made as an EBMM for less dosh. 'bubinga5' its great having one bass. its just finding the ONE that is versatile enough and your happy with. the Lakland will tick most boxes imo TBF my black SR5 probably already is that bass, my latest band covers the Beatles cant buy me love through to No Doubts Just a girl and it really is all in the fingers 'thisnameistaken' I'm sure the Laklands are nice basses but they don't look very inspiring. I would agree it looks like the stingray classic 5 is perhaps the ideal bass for you, but my god how much are they ripping people off with those things. I would work hard to find something else just to avoid giving EB any money. I think the trans blue looks the nuts but you are probably right, Classic5 should be the right bass looking at the facts. 'Old Horse Murphy' I'm selling one Dont I just know it!
4. In parallel as normal either from two amp outputs or linked cab to cab the impedance halfs hence most people have a pair of 8 ohm cabs and a 4 ohm minimum head, in series the impendances are added up so you would get 8 ohms which if all the amp gurus on here are correct then the fact your head is running at 8 ohm rather than 4 won't matter a jot but double the amount of cabs will, a lot! Plus you can always get 4 4x12 cabs and another series box for some 16x12 action Depending on your cabs you could put a switch on them to make the cabs series wired taking them up to 8 ohm then use them as normal giving the head a 4 ohm load.
5. I know, maybe I should just get one and sell just my jazz, find the rest from somewhere?
6.
Yeah get rid of em all. f*** it. They're only 'things' aren't they? Easily replaceable and you'll end up trying other basses that you never thought you ever would before! Get a BB2025 or a Dingwall. Go mental! Truckstop
I'm pretty certain it will be in my op list you know, been thinking for a while and even toyed with selling a couple so I could spend more on my double bass, sold my 79 ray to fund it in the end which was a shame as it was a nice bass with a few quid in it.
7.
Your blue SR5 - can you PM me some pics? Ta. CB
I will send some pics but not until I have paid my listing fee here, this isn't an underhand sales advert I will get some done and pay my fee tomorrow as I want the jazz listing once done I will pm you some pics, ta
8.
Not considered a custom build?
Not really, I do like the duck egg blue gb spitfires but nah.
9.
I can't really be very useful in advice, as I play neither of these basses, but I will post a blog about my Mayones workshop visit a few days ago, next week.
Looking forward to it
10. Yep 2 eq is the way forward, I love my pre eb so really what I actually want is a five string pre EB! I'm a bit far away to try it (midlands) but thanks for the offer
11. I have 3 Rays and a heavily modded Jazz but have come to the conclusion that I am a 5 string player full time really so the Jazz can go, the pre EB is awesome but is life too short to be either sentimental or waiting for it to be worth millions? My black SR5 has the wrong neck and was just gained via a trade for my old SR4 as a backup to my blue SR5, it weighs about the same as a range rover yet its my go to bass! Worst case I still know I have my go to black frankenray which I would happily gig forever. So here is the idea, sell the blue SR5, Jazz and pre EB Ray which should raise around £3000 or just under then buy one bass, but what? Lakland usa 55-94 not sure on the current prices or where from? Modulus funk 5 again no idea where from or how much? Plan b, keep the pre EB or my blue SR5 then buy; Mayones Jabba 5 Classic Stingray Classic 5 Lakland Skyline 55-02 Any ideas, views, advice or offers?
12. I like it, I think the stingray 5 was a bit of a copy really with its bevelled edges.
13. The next time I see a cheap genz neox2x12t cab I'm going to tempted! 4x12, two adjustable tweeters and 900watts
14. I'd like to hear my pre eb and my ceramic stingray through the same setup, I'm not far away either
15. Looking forward to getting home to have a listen!
16. This is why I give a clean di to the sound guy/girl at gigs with a proper pa, lots of people on here obcess about their £500 amp must be heard out front rather than the £25'000+ pa
17. I'm seriously thinking about buying a usa lakland, this isn't helping at all!
18.
Excellent quality. Just not my thing. I don't see any issues with normal parallel frets.
These Dingwall threads always end with the old "solution to a problem that doesn't exist" comment, fwiw I agree. That does not mean they are any more or less worthy but some of the nonsense I have heard about them is just that.
19. That's the problem with pro gear in all passtimes or hobbies, the best sounding/feeling/fastest or whatever feature it is that we desire is not always the most robust, try breaking a Raleigh Grifter yet a £3k alloy bike can be ruined by accidentally threading the left hand threaded bearing case into the frame the wrong way!
20.
The questions is; Is 212 the new 210? Noted that more manufacturers are selling a 212 variant and GK have even dropped the NEO 210 from their line in favour of the 212.
I find a good 2x12 is more comparable to a good 4x10, better than an average one.
21. Trouble is I'd say a pro bass player doing 5 gigs a week wearing an amp out in five years or less could be seen as a reasonable period of time, I'm sure they should and will last longer but modern cheap electronics are not built to last like an old ampeg, a new ampeg isn't even built like an old one!
22.
The main thing is, do the ears like the sound? If so, even though what you`ve done may break all the rules, that`s the main thing. Done it a couple of times myself and each time the cabs were better after than before.
This is unfortunately what the resident experts don't get, all the foibles and mistakes made by the tried and trusted brands have become what we love, if it sounds good it sounds good no matter what the computer programme suggests, I prefer driving my morris minor to the wifes focus zetec, go figure
