I have the black double £35, it works, other than that I dont really know waiting to get a plat pro preamp before I do anymore fiddling.
-
Good plan, £16! I didnt know such things existed.

I had that problem fitting 3/4 strings to my stagg, ended up drilling the tailpiece and unwinding some silk to get them to fit. Also I wasn't sure what it would do to the tension if I just fitted weich 4/4 strings instead thinking maybe mittels would then be better. The problem with the stagg is that there is more string behind the bridge than a regular db, do you have the same problem? 4/4 strings trimmed down I'd say is your answer. Type is for the experts!

Shhh, don't tell the missus, I've just pulled the trigger.
:-) You've just eliminated from my consideration any basses you may happen to advertise on here! :-) CB
Only my pre eb has a sealed neck and that's a keeper, all the ebmm basses are hand buffed so to speak.
-
I won't say where the method came from but trust me they know how to build basses
-
I'm not suggesting anyone put grooves or grip tape on the neck, I'm talking 1200-2000 grade wet and dry.
-
Try sliding a finger over a gloss wall tile, then a satin one. The squeek of clean glass is the grip grabbing and slipping.Anyone who has worked in a body shop will tell you a gloss finish has more grip than a satin one. Think of a tyre, the grippy race ones are slick, treaded tyres have less contact area hence less grip unless its wet because the tread removes water leaving less contact than a slick in the dry but much more than a slick with a layer of water between it and the tarmac. Make sense?
-
The satin finish develops the perfect feel for me over time
-
I think you can get a matte finish to shine to the right amount but a super gloss finish grips unless you flat it off a tad.
Why not? Surely the fact that the neck matches the rest of the instrument makes it look better?
I like the look but prefer the feel of an unfinished neck, if I had a painted neck I would sand the gloss off it anyway.
-
I'm not keen on painted necks, matching headstock looks cool though.
I don't understand what you are saying.
I won't bother trying as it will only derail the thread again!

Ok serious answer then and you might still not like it be warned...all the images I have seen of Leo building prototype basses involve him sitting with a bass fitted with a sliding pickup in wooden rails, where it sounded best the factory models got them By changing the scale of the bass by two inches or more I'd think it would totally change the inherent tone so the sweet spot (invented by Leo and blocks of wood) could be the same/nearer the neck/nearer the bridge or lost forever

Lots of people drive drunk, uninsured, with bald tyres etc its all good until it goes wrong. If you are in a pro band then you could ask for the venues certs etc, I'm sure big shows must have people who have to get documents signed to say the venue will be safe for their acts and the acts fans. If you are asking for the right reasons that's cool if you are doing it to be a pedant or because you have failed to provide what the venue asked you to bring on the night be prepared to either not play or look a cock when the venue produces a copy of all their certs.

No need to tell me mate
Can you get these fine tuners for DB? The link you provided has them for violin/viola/cello but not DB. You can't change the pitch of a string by changing the length of string beyond the bridge or beyond the nut. You can change the pitch by changing the tension in the string by using a tuner (which winds the string or pulls the string tighter) at either end - nut or bridge. Now the fine tuner can operate by winding the string or straight pulling the string with a lever (and looking at them that is how many work) but it is not the length of the string past the nut or bridge that matters.
Yes they are fitted to db too, the problem is that they will be fighting the tuning of the bass on the speaking length so it looks like a bitch to get right, once bang on with your choice of strings and bridge fitted where you want for overall tone you can measure each string length after the bridge and have a tail carved to that exact shape to remove the need for tuners, you can see why db setups are not for novices!

If you know the 500watt cab sounds ok with the betas then you could load the other cab with the same knowing they will work then get the Genz 12.2 head (not everyone here will realise it has two 600watt amps built in), I doubt the claimed 600watt will trouble a 500 watt cab but the existing one will be held back by the 300 watt one at the moment. What is struggling at the moment the head or cabs?
-
Been reading up and the fine tuners are for tuning the after bridge string length! No idea why, so much db learning to do.
-
Then altering the length of string behind the bridge has altered the tension?
-
Anyway I don't think my level of db playing will improve much with or without one! looking at various listing by different makers some talk of tuning, others compliance or tension so maybe its more of a term issue than an actual issue?
-
Although I am too cack handed to notice any difference in compliance myself (it's definitely not a difference in tension) I am willing to accept that someone might notice a difference - in compliance. However, the difference in compliance from moving plucking fingers nearer or further away from the bridge is much much greater than any imaginable difference from string-through-body so I don't at all understand why anyone would be bothered one way or the other.
No it didnt bother me, they were both ace!
-
If this does not affect tension only compliance how can it alter the tuning? http://www.thestringzone.co.uk/thomastik-violin-tailpiece-with-integrated-fine-tuners

I set up the two stingrays as identicle as I could (using feeler gauges) eb 40-100 strings and I am sure 99 percent of bass players would have said the strung through had more tension (ok maybe we would be wrong scientifically) but if the strings felt more taught when tuned on the same tuner what can you say? Still interesting how the db fine tuners work, a year ago I would have laughed them off as rubbish!
