1. From what I have seen and heard all of the cabs mentioned should be brilliant cabs, also I can't see that the Bergs are any better built than the Genz ones, the uber range look to be a cut above the lot so if money is no object I'd try an uber?
2. I found the more I played it the more the position feel into place, my brace is above my waist too, set the nut to just above your eye brow rather than worrying about the brace height. I don't really use the small brace but always use the hip one as I can feel bad habits creeping in when its not fitted. Give it a few Weeks and your arms, shoulder and back will hurt less after each practice, welcome to the club! :-) Ps has it had all the mods done?
3.
Your SR is wonderful, KIng Basses are what old people who have given up play.
Pmsl
4. It sounds from my limited knowledge that the string height might of been too low if they were as easy to play as the eub?
5. I know everyone says it but I really would have this if I had the cash! I dont understand why Mayones are not more popular over here?
6. My dislike is based on 10 years of playing through one, wooly, unreliable and poor after sales service all first hand but thats not the OP wants to hear is it? It is easier to suggest everyone that makes comments on them has never tried/owned one. Top and bottom (less top obviously ) is that if the OP and the other people like or love their gear why get upset? Plenty of dislike for class D heads and weak G strings on Stingrays but I like what I have and it is me that has to use the gear so why would I care?
7.
Classic Stingray arrived at work today; it's amazing, can't believe how much better it feels (to my hands) the gloss neck is ace. Think I'm in trouble.
I will probably get a classic five at some point soon
8. On mine you could see where the bridge had been fitted to the strings as they fit the bridge and strings then remove the bridge and wrap everything up well, after that it was just a matter of getting it to sit right, took a couple of goes but no problem at all. As for preparing to your requirements they will fit your choice of bridge and type of strings which obviously takes some effort to shape the bridge to your bass and string silks are easy to ruin if like me you are new to db, gedo fitted mine spotlessly. Pot of pops rosin and a reasonable bow tucked in the quilted gig bag were just the cherries on top, loving mine more each day, I'm sure its starting to develope a better sound?
9. Just been here mate, check out my Gedo bass has arrived thread. I started with a Stagg and still use it, it will also get you to grips with the basics to see if its worth persuing, if not you will get most/all your money back
10.
I'm using a classic Stingray c/w Aguilar TH500 & 2 SL112 cabs, playing classic rock. Tend to max out bass on guitar and have treble about +2. On the amp I cut the lower mids, boost bass and have treble at 0. I find this sound really cuts through especially across all the string and up the neck, also it gives a big fat bottom end to our sound, which is also well defined owing to the Gramma Pad on which the rig sits. Hope this helps. ATB Paul.
Win
That would be my suggestion too. Tiny bass boost. Tiny. Don't listen to Pete In 2-band Stingrays especially boosting too much the bass can sound a bit muddy, and if you boost treble much, your mids will fall off the edge. Small bass boost.
lose
11. Sounds good, got a nice village pub too
12. I'd throw a proper g and l l2500k and a modulus funk 5 in the mix too.
13.
I'm glad you said that I thought it was the start of another P bashing session I like the fact the bands adapt the live shows from the records , I've done plenty of covers recently where I've found live versions working wonderfully on my 4 string, where the record doesn't. I like BM
Not at all I even suggested a five string p bass of some kind A B strung four would be ok but the riff is repeated in the higher octave for the middle eight which is going to have you up and down the neck.
14. Your welcome to come and have a blast mate, I'm a bit of a trek away near Stafford but its worth half a tank of fuel if your going to spend a grand or more imo.
15. Five strings, rock solid, under two grand, good b string, even response across all the strings (no weak g strings on fivers), looks great for rock or any other style.....erm.....erm....
16. 10 strings are fine but the 11th is just a useless thumbrest imo.
17.
The Stingray is hands down the best bass guitar.
Correct
18.
Start at the centre and build out. It can take a little while, as I find out - although, admittedly, I was with a Stingray. There shouldn't be anything the 55-01 can do that this cannot.
I agree, to be fair I probably boost the bass too much the cut it compared to where someone else might at the head.
19. What EQ does it have? If its the same as a regular Ray I like Bass almost maxed out, mid about flat and a tiny bit of treble boost. Im not sure if the pickup is wired in series or paralel on those either?
20. Yep thats where we play it too, OK you can drop tune but you dont get the tight response of a proper B string like the record. Locked out of heaven is also easier on a fiver IMO because its easier to grab the F on the B string, again probably is either a 5 string or a B strung bass on the record? Ignoring the extra notes anyway love it or hate it (as we all do) even the standard range notes have 'that' sound when played on the B string.
21. True, I did say it was my only gripe so it is a very minor one really, overall he is cool and hopefully inspiring a new generation to actually play/sing etc
