1. I think I would probably put a picture of Kelly Brook behind the clear plate?
2.
If you dont need more than a P bass then why bother with a 5?
Thats not my point, If Bruno was not happy without the ERB in the studio why is happy without it live?
3. Bows are the cheap bit Douglas compared to strings at £100 each, OK thats less than a Bow to start with but not if you get the common DB string swapping obsession! I live near Timothy Toft and fancy a look in sometime once I feel more confident in my playing ability, I will probably have my Gedo setup there when I get to the stage it needs doing, probably end up buying a bass!
4. An example before anyone says I am talking sh*t again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QryRWychTE Great performance and show but where has all that bottom end gone, fwiw the bass sounds ace and the low notes have plenty of beef but the main riff sounded better in the lower octave on the record to my ears? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o95FLUk7o9Q
5. My only gripe with the Bruno Mars thing is that most of the basslines are on ERB unless played live when its always a guy with the boring old Fender 4 string again! Is it still that uncool to be seen with a 5 string? a P bass 5 in 3 tone burst would surely still have 'that look' yet have the extra notes to play it as the record. Other than that yeah He is cool
6. Oh and how long before Marcus decides he fancies a Rickenbacker instead? or a Modulus, GB, Status, Fender etc etc
7. Good work Marcus! It would be interesting to see which preamp that has as it could be one of the very earliest fitted with a green PCB rather than the old style ones? That colour combo is actually a sort of reissue of the very last pre EB Rays that got the clear guard and trans red finish to try and modernise them a bit as a final fling before Ernie ball got his hands on them in '84, most transition era (84-85) Rays are in that colour
8.
24 is too many IMHO. It's a bass guitar, which you ideally want to use to make deep sounding notes. I can see one of these widdly jazz players (good for them) or one of these slappers and poppers might use frets 22 thru 24 ..... but not me.
I'm not sure two semi tones extra is going to turn anyone it Yanek Gwizdala overnight
9. I can understand why some folk wouldn't want an active bass but what's wrong with 24 frets?
10. Well you could say the bass cost x but forget to mention the bridge, strings or shipping
11. Now I started with Nymans which I cant get to work at all, my Gedo bass came with a free pot of pops and now I am Gary Karr! OK maybe not quite as good but at least I can actually get a sound from the strings now, I may of had a bad pot as some folk say the mail order stuff can be old and past its best?
12. I read somewhere that mine could be romanian? I don't suppose it matters
13. Make sure you try both the steam liner and the shuttle, the steam liner seams more fashionable on bass chat but its totally different to the shuttle so you might like one our the other? Also try a max head with the fet channel , epic :-)
14. My squier jazz has got Bartolini pickups, an ebs preamp, jack mounted in the body, Badass bridge, fender scratch plate, full size tuners and the fret ends/finger board rolled. Would that count as modded?
15. Cany argue with any of that! I got outbid on a hangtag at a price probably well beyond what I wanted to pay but still felt like it would of been a nice thing to have, good luck with this sale
16. Cheers Thomas, do you know Gedo well then? Lots of love over here for them and I can only see them becoming more popular too
17. Does anyone know where mine is likely to have been made? Solid top, laminate back and sides, ebony board.
18.
Stand on one leg and face east, and you'll hear it the right way round.
Ah yes I hear it now! I don't see why a P wouldn't fit in somehow, flats maybe?
19. My laptop only appears to be playing the Youtube clip backwards anyway so I cant decide if a P bass would sound good or not?
20. You could make a little frying pan from a 57s Ri copper scratch plate?
21. Strangely I was just playing it (for about an hour) and sat down to look at the old Basschat! I love it still and such a good company to deal with, never seen an item so well packed! It hasnt developed any issues or anything, starting to sound better the more I play it if anything. Obviously as a novice I cant tell you much more than that but I have not felt "what if I had gone for a Thomann instead" once so thats good IME Shame you so far away or you would be welcome to try it for yourself, fwiw I still play my Stagg EUB all the time too, about 20% of our set is on the upright now
22.
I don't see how what others are getting affects the deal. If you've agreed to play for a sum, then that's the deal. What did you discuss when you took the dates on..? Was a rate agreed (I would have thought so...)..? If so, I don't see the problem if you're getting that rate. Perhaps others have a different arrangement (shares in the PA, or van..?). If it bugs you, take it up with the 'boss'; if not, let it ride. Just my tuppence-worth.
See I agree with this too which contradicts what I just said I guess maybe what I think is if they rang and said "its £800 but the PA is £150 and there is 5 members so its £130 each is that OK?" then I found out it was £1000 I would feel a bit pissed off, If they said "its £130 the gig is at X venue X miles away 1 am finish if you want it?" and I agreed I probably would not be arsed either way unless they were trying to get you to every gig saving them £50-75 a gig, then I would turn them down.
