1.
Have you tried facing the other direction?
What about looking in a mirror, will that work?
2. Well I have never seen one of those plastic ones with the round corners, if they are for the early ebmm models I'd say they would be of interest to someone, where is drTStingray? Or try the ebmm forum?
3. Yes the mumnosh one and marcus, they are the typical none pear shaped pre eb cases, lots of colours for the inside available.
4.
Thanks, so is the chuck3r case, with those rounded corners, a pre-EB case? I'm also looking at the 'Mumnosh' 1979 Stingray just before halfway down in a leatherette covered wooden case. Is that one? There's a pear shaped one further down
I'd say its an early ebmm one, 84-86ish? Any bass with a fret marker on the 21st fret is ebmm even though it only has mm markings like the cases.
5. I get confused with the tone pot on a p bass going what sounds like the opposite way to my ears!
6. My 2010 is 10lb, My 2007 might be responsible for the bad weather recently due to its weight pulling on the worlds oceans, I love it!
7. Here you go, scroll down, have you got an early EBMM case? (nice if you have even nicer if you have two!) look at the white bass (chuck3r 1990) not a pre EB as it has the extra fret marker and a chamfeur. http://www.musicmanbass.org/mycustompage0006.htm Scroll down further for an example of the rectangular pre EB case but they do vary a lot, I dropped on mine from Nicks guitars as mine had a modern Fender case and Nick swapped it for a more Period case at my request, after he did he remembered that it originally have a pre EB Ray in it that someone bought off him who did not want the case as they were going on the train home!
8. They are not plastic mate, wooden with a coating like a Fender one but without the logo, white piping normally. After that its a trickier debate, orange, blue and black appear to be possible original interior fluff colours. Bit of an angled lift up compartment in one corner.
9. I am just listening to some Jamiroquai, Have you tried any Zender licks on it yet? The classic Zender Warwick tone was acheived quite often on a pink SR5, early one so Alnico pickup like a proper Ray
10. You are right, 1.5 twin and earth is actually higher at 18 amp rating, to be honest if you followed all the cable calcs to the law you house would be full of industrial size cables! I find its the full valve amps that struggle on anything over one decent ext reel, Its not my forte but I presume them valves like a good supply of juice?
11. I like mine (normal size because I wanted the battery option, never used one!), have you tried the other setting if it has it?
12. Dont worry about it, I made a similar post a few years ago, now I have made over 6000! (all nonsense)
13. Thats not right TimR you can put a 16A MCB to cover a 1.5mm cable, most commercial premises have that arrangement, so a 13A Fuse would be ok. If the reel is long then you might find a max 10A rating as described above because of the volts drop over that distance but most extension leads rated at 13A are only 1.5mm cable. http://www.tlc-direc.../CA1dot5F3.html Quite common for 16A applications like caravan leads etc http://www.industria...ated-9620-p.asp It is truly amazing just how much you can get to hold even on a 10Amp fuse on a building site or a marquee gig!
14. My '82 is awesome, I always thought I would want a 70's one over an 80's one given the choice, I had both and sold the earlier one to fund my upright bass rather than buying a cheapo upright. In an ideal world I would of kept both and bought more
15. I've never really got on with multiple pickup basses partly because of this, when its good its very good though.
16. I didn't like them when I was younger, tried again ten years later and never looked back!
17. I'm not that keen on them myself........
18. I totally disagree but I guess that's clear already
19. I know mate and my parents have said the same bearing in mind I work for the family business and it will impact on us all financially
20. Might be poplar not alder too especially if its a solid colour, my jazz is poplar and I like it as its nice and light.
21. On the guitars only the usa ones have the extra fret too, not sure if that affects any of the jazz basses?
22.
Are they really made of cheaper stuff? I don't care about tuning pegs, surely the wood used in US Fenders is no better? Are the pups different? Is the quality of the knobs poor? (I suppose that begs another question, what makes 'good wood' for a bass - please nothing about tone here!)
Usually the same wood but more bits of it to make a body, I had a Mex Strat from new which had US pickups back then but I think the new ones have weaker outputs depending on the exact model, the knobs are similar but the pots are cheaper with a cheaper feel to them when operated. Fwiw I have played more nice Squiers than nice Mex basses, although played lots of nice Mex guitars, odd I know.
23. I'd still be pre, straight in, I presume others would go from pedal boards that could still be pre di even when used with a rig. I have a preamp on every instrument I own so I'm never truly free of tone shaping and as I said before it starts from the fingers anyway. life is too short to worry about some stuff, just get out there and play!
24.
Do you really believe that? Or are you simply parroting 60 years of propaganda from lazy PA and studio engineers? And if you do think your statement is correct why have you wasted money buying some nice GB amplification, when a simple powered wedge monitor will do the job at a fraction of the cost?
I use a 1x12T cab for monitoring if there is a big pa, the 2x12T I use for gigs with no or little pa support. Like I said loads of people are going to in ears so not even a need for a cheap wedge if the whole band has gone that way, on stage silence, bliss
25.
But no one would even think that a guitarist should plug his guitar directly into a DI box and use that sound for FOH, so why should the bass guitar be any different?
A good quality bass guitar usually sounds good direct in, An electric guitar with no fx usually doesn't, how's that? Also as many pro players are moving to in ear monitoring your idea that no one else is going straight in albeit after some form of box of tricks is unfounded.
