1.
I reckon exploded cap.
Acrid stench followed by visit to bass direct!
2.
You mean you prefer these? I'm also liking those GWB tuners.
Very good
3. Oh man I am gutted about this, really folks this is a sweet bass and a give away price, If I had not spent Andy dosh on my Gedo upright I would of bought it right back off him (and made him buy me pint). Monster Ray this folks it really is, I have owned five over a 13 year period and this is the best sounding one out the lot
4.
Probably plays better than a real one...
OOOoooooshhh!
5. None of the above
6. Blimey not seen Jim Tavare for years!
7. Not read all the thread Mel but has anyone suggested a 5 string SGC Nanyo Bass Collection? Nice P tones and J tones from the PJ setup Very light and very comfortable with a smallish body but not to the extremes of the Hohner etc Good preamp overcomes the small body to give the tones of a much heavier bass Build quality Fender can only dream of (contentious but true I am affraid). In some cases what were £1000 basses can be had for less than £200 but I'd pay upto £350 for a nice fiver. If you switched to five strings you could play off the E on the B string to save reaching up beyond the 5th fret so I would seriously look into it, a perfect example of why 5 strings are not all about extra notes Even if you dont want a 5 a BC is well worth hunting down, a sort of Ibanez soundgear/ yamaha but better finish etc
8.
Wow, that looks like it was designed by someone who has had a Stingray described to them down the phone, but had never actually seen one...
I can see a lot of Sabre in there, I thought that head stock was copywrited to musicman too?
9.
Heathen ;-)
I know, its not just the Ray connections I feel drawn to modulus in their own right but not got any love for a status
10. Quick bump as the snow has thwarted the basschatter due to view it tomorrow, a final price drop to go with it but its the last one and a firm one, check the price of a leo quan badassII, pair of Barts and an ebs active preamp before trying to offer me less
11. I think everyone here is a w***er, me included
12. Funnily I would like a modulus but status do nothing for me at all.
13. Very odd was there a bun fight I wonder?
14. I have fitted the J tone properly now and purchased an Artec EQ pedal, so far so good but I need more time to fiddle with it all
15. I think people compare the wrong things and it starts the bad name thing from there, I am looking at bikes and quite rightly my mate has told me which brands are best etc, He will tell me that a Trek is better than a Halfords Carrera but mostly that is because he is comparing a £300 Carrera to a £500 Trek, from what I can see if you spend a bit more on the lesser brand you get a better bike so a £500 Carrera is actually probably a better bike than the Trek for the same money. In our bass world what I am saying is people have a perfectly good Behringer amp that is as good as its rivals sometimes better then upgrade to something like a nice Mark bass combo or full rig and harp on about how good Markbass are compared to Behringer! Same with basses pedals etc etc I am still to better an EBMM Ray through an old Peavey TNT combo, even my Genz Shuttlemax 9.2 does not sound as good its just a lot louder!
16. Not sure? Hopefully get a bit more time with it on Sunday and report back.
17. Calling Doddy! Oh wait he is at sea........
18. Before for reference
19. OK had a little mess, I have moved the whole bridge forward to give the 105cm scale length across all 4 strings now and managed to get everything a bit more square, the notches are nearer the centre of the feet and it all looks more correct to my eyes. I cant beleive how much scope for movement there is even without moving the position of where the strings touch the bridge! It is also dead centre 49mm from each f hole too. What do we think now, better?
20. Hi Glyndwr and welcome, That is my thread fatback has linked so I know where you are at. I cant recommend Gedo as a company enough, I dont know much about basses as such but the finish on mine is great, the company however are brilliant, well packed, free bag/case/bow and proper pops rosin. They returned my emails really quickly in english and did exactly as I asked (If you look on their website you will see they actually have mine listed as a model now with adjustable bridge and spirocore strings for 950 euros, tell them what you want if different from any on the site and they will list it as a special order for you to buy online, mine came within 5 days of ordering including fitting the bridge and setting it all up! I dont know what you have in mind as far as a budget is concerned but I would have no issue in buying one of their cheaper ones, this for example is 499 euros http://www.gedo-musik.de/shop/product.php?id_product=703 and from what everyone else has said should be much better than G4M basses as far as the setup etc is concerned. Also some nice basses for sale on this site from time to time but they get snapped up pretty quick which is another reason to get a reasonable one if you can as you could always get a fair chunk of the money back if you decide to sell it, a dirt cheap one will be good for nothing really. Best of luck and it will be nice to have someone even newer to this than me
21. Only just had a little play, I have notice that the lack of earth on the bass end does not help with hissing but what can you do? It raises the gain being input on the amp quite a bit which was one of my main issues (is this what you meen by impedence matching?) I have certainly got a fuller sound now too although I do have a really good amp as it is which many people find OK with no extras at all. I will report back once I have had a play around with it
