1. I have a Genz Shuttle 3.0 for home practice that I use either with a 1x10 or phones, as its a no load required head I also use it as a Di box from time to time too, the great thing about them is that they have no cooling fan and dont need one either so its really silent for such a pokey head, I have run my Genz 2x12T off it with no problems so its a perfect spare head for function band type gigs as a spare to my other Genz heads, weighs nothing and takes up no room under the car seat just in case
2. Good idea, I see now as one side will be in direct contact with the bridge. Weekend project I'd say.
3. I have cut it the best I can, looks 'ok' I need to shim them out when I get time as the E side is weaker than the G at the moment and I have wrapped them with thin foam to wedge them in which wont help I know, I am going to slacken the strings off, wrap the pickup tabs in matching black pvc tape until I can just squeeze them in then tighten it all back up and try that. The output is quite weak at the moment but I will see how it is after the pickup are more snug.
4. I have just bought a cheap piezo now very similar actually, waiting to see how that sounds to start with, preamp next if needed then a better piezo I think?
5. I'm pretty sure my bad playing will be more of an issue than the piezo I will report back after I have fitted it.
6. I have ordered a cheap ebay one just to get me started, hopefully something good will crop up at the right price soon. It is a wing type one so I will try and get it snug then, await many questions......
7. It's good! Sticky enough to grip the strings but not messy, leaves a clear finger print if you press it.
8. Yeah its a dirty bitch of a bass ain't it, only seen him on jazz basses in recent years which is a shame imo.
9. Wall hangers! Oh hang on I read your post properly you will work it out mate.
10. Argh that's bad, good luck with the search
11. That's nice mate! Pickups already fitted too?
12. I'm still looking my stagg, just got back from practice and it's great
13. I scanned your post and read "Getting married, nice rack" On a serious note I only have a small room for practice but I have five hooks, like you say that is not an option. I have just put a double bass in our bedroom up the corner too! Our guitarist has one of those fold out stagg guitar racks that can hold a few without taking up too much room? This is quite compact http://www.thomann.d...eckstaender.htm This is less than a metre wide http://www.thomann.d...renstaender.htm
14.
Interestingly it has a preamp gain *and* volume, plus a master volume. I haven't quite figured out how they interact yet... Love the combo though, very happy with it!
This relates to how 'driven' the preamp section is before going through the EQ, the master volume then reproduces what you have told it at the volume you want. If you put the gain on full and the volume down low then crank the master volume up you will get the dirtiest sound, then put the gain as low as it can go, the volume on max and set the master volume this will give you the smoothest tone in can produce. Try volume on half and set the master to suit the room, now adjust the gain pot until you get the sound you want after that use the master volume for any changes you want to make. Like most things you just need to play around with it, and most Genz stuff you just set all the pots to 12 o'clock and enjoy anyway
15. I would put a Badass on it and rip off the pickguard to make a Rage Against The Machine TC signature model
16. Hi I know this is a wanted add but I thought it would be more likely to get seen here? I am after a piezo pickup of some kind and probably something like a Fishman Platinum pro preamp, I am open to suggestions of whatever versions someone might have that they want to sell, my lack of skills will be more of an issue than the make of piezo for now, Thanks folks let me know
17. No its not snug mate its quite a gap on mine, I did the same to my Stagg and its fine. If I took it down to two business cards it should be fine then do you think, that would still leave plenty of nut for someone to do it properly later if need be. The rest of the bass is brilliant, none of this finish looks ok from 100 yards stuff, the ply rear looks really nice almost a shame to hide it and all the seams are neat with no glue or lumpy varnish etc. The company are faultless so far, the best I have ever had dealings with!
18. I would steer clear, everyone says the secret of a good 5 string is the construction and a solid neck rather than 35 inch scales or wonky frets so one with a split in it must be a bad place to start? It does not seem like five minutes since new Mex instruments were not a lot more than this!
19. I might go for that B stock SH950 then, looks simple enough and might just do the job in one go?
20. Actually.... http://www.thomann.de/gb/shadow_sh_950_b_stock.htm Or even for the full Ed Friedland rig... http://www.thomann.de/gb/david_gage_the_realist_double_bas_b_stock_2.htm
21. The manual says >500k ohms and the Max9.2 suggests it is good for upright basses? looks like some work without a pre into Genz heads where others still need one.
