1. I would put a Badass on it and rip off the pickguard to make a Rage Against The Machine TC signature model
2. Hi I know this is a wanted add but I thought it would be more likely to get seen here? I am after a piezo pickup of some kind and probably something like a Fishman Platinum pro preamp, I am open to suggestions of whatever versions someone might have that they want to sell, my lack of skills will be more of an issue than the make of piezo for now, Thanks folks let me know
3. No its not snug mate its quite a gap on mine, I did the same to my Stagg and its fine. If I took it down to two business cards it should be fine then do you think, that would still leave plenty of nut for someone to do it properly later if need be. The rest of the bass is brilliant, none of this finish looks ok from 100 yards stuff, the ply rear looks really nice almost a shame to hide it and all the seams are neat with no glue or lumpy varnish etc. The company are faultless so far, the best I have ever had dealings with!
4. I would steer clear, everyone says the secret of a good 5 string is the construction and a solid neck rather than 35 inch scales or wonky frets so one with a split in it must be a bad place to start? It does not seem like five minutes since new Mex instruments were not a lot more than this!
5. I might go for that B stock SH950 then, looks simple enough and might just do the job in one go?
6. Actually.... http://www.thomann.de/gb/shadow_sh_950_b_stock.htm Or even for the full Ed Friedland rig... http://www.thomann.de/gb/david_gage_the_realist_double_bas_b_stock_2.htm
7. Ed has cost me a lot of money over the years
8. The manual says >500k ohms and the Max9.2 suggests it is good for upright basses? looks like some work without a pre into Genz heads where others still need one.
9.
I'd add to that list the Upton Revolution Solo pickup - another workable bridge wing pickup. If your amp has an input impedance of 1 Megaohm or greater (check the manual), some of the piezo pickups may sound fine without a preamp, so you may want to try that and see how you fare first.
Ah OK I will check that, I have a selection of Genz amps which I beleive are fairly popular with DB players especially in the States?
10. What is the general feeling about these and at this price being B stock? http://www.thomann.de/gb/shadow_sh_965_nfx_b_b_stock.htm
11. I think a Platinum pro is on the cards then and a lucky dip into the piezo world! My amps should be good as far as I know so that is a big cost saving alone Off to look for plat pros.........
12.
Watching this with interest as I got Alistair's EUB, think the same's gonna happen to me...... loving the EUB, so lets see how long it takes....Oh well Another one to blame Alisatir........:-)
It will happen mate just go with it
13. How likely am I to bugger the bass up if I file the nut a bit like I did to the Stagg to lower the strings nearer the neck for pressing down the first semitones?
14. I know it isnt ideal is it? The back room is south facing and great for ageing guitar necks but not good for delicate double basses, the little room is too small, that leaves our bedroom which we obviously need the heating switched on in. I might try the opposite corner tomorrow after moving a few things around.
15. I have been waiting for my new Gedo to arrive before posting this in case I tempted fate or something, so what should I get as regards piezo or mic or both or what I have no idea (as is the norm with me where the DB is concerned). I was thinking some form of clip on job and a preamp? Thanks in advance and I know this is a biggie
16. Well fate has decided, I was about to order on or the other then found a pot of Pops in the gig bag with my new Gedo bass!
17. Thanks guys I love it! and to top it off I have just found a pot of Pops rosin in the bag which I was thinking of ordering tomorrow! That really is the cherryon top
18. Oh and my hercules stand arrived a few hours later
19. Its here! It has been setup then taken apart again I could see where the indetation on the as ordered thomastik spiro weichs was so fitted it and tensioned it up, they had locked the again as ordered adjustable bridge with elastic bands, I have seated it so as the strings run evenly down the board and inline with the f hole notches Plays really nice with the action about where I want it, no rattles or anything. The bag is HUGE and I got a free german bow to try out in comparison to my carbon yitamusic one. So far all good
20.
Nope. It's post only. best, bert
That's a bit odd,I have never had a post only di on any amp.
21.
They should know what they are getting... they should have seen us and want us for what we do... If they want anything else... or they want to influence the set, not really interested and they are more than welcome to look elsewhere. We aren't a wedding band and avoid them mostly.
Well we wouldn't do a dj set at anything other than a wedding/function.
22. Has the OTB got a pre and post option for the DI? A sound guy rushed off his/her feet might automatically put it on pre which would defeat the object in this scenario.
23. LED lights are also great as they dont get hot so they can be unplugged and in the van 2 mins after the last drunken tosser has offered out the brides brother or started telling you about his mate at works Gibson Stradavaricastor worth millions
24. This would be a killer spare bass or main bass for anyone that plays 4 strings as their main instrument (not me anymore ) I will leave it up for a couple more weeks just incase, I could do with some funds for DB lessons
