1. I used to rotate them all but the 4 stringers are getting less of an outing in live situations other than the odd jam night partly to let the 4 bangers play on
2.
I was thinking more of the moral indignation in the Ebay thread about that luthier MDP & how much he's not getting for stuff he paid sh*te-pence for the week before. All it would take would be a few "Is that the same bass you paid me less than half that for 6 months ago?", to make a possible mug think again & either decide it's still worth it or pocket their stash until something more appropriate to their needs comes along". The only ones with anything to lose in such a scenario are the flippers.
In that case- The seller sold it too cheap by not doing their homework The seller was desperate for cash The market has shot up maybe due to a reunion of a band that features the instrument in question etc None of the above are the new sellers fault or give an obligation to give the bass away
3. Has it really been two weeks since this was done to death? Might aswell do it again anyway then! Items sell for what they are worth to the person buying them, if that's not you or you can't afford it then its tough luck imo, if I buy a bass mainly because I feel it went for less than it might on another day perhaps because the seller did a bad job of listing it or because I drove miles to collect it because the seller would not post it why should I give it away for possibly a few hundred pound less than other similar basses listed on here/ebay at the same time, all that would do is reduce the market value of the other basses. I won't be selling my black pre eb on here at the price I paid for it anytime soon
4. If someone decides to do it can they perform a plays like butter test too? Would need some kind of butter scale from "cheap margarine that rips the bread when trying to spread it" through to "Lurpak left on the radiator"
5.
Oops. Meant to say he rewired it to fix it after new owners bought the studios
its not very often I get to comment on someones grammer or spelling, you have got to let me have that one
6. Can you tell me how much shipping to Sweden would be? I don't live there I was just wondering.
7. I don't like a jazz nut or the Ibanez either really, I do like a thin neck depth wise but narrow nut widths don't do it for me. I'd still play a whole gig on one,I do have a jazz, but overall I prefer a bit of meat.
8. They will have one mate, just looking on their crap site but cant search for one but they must sell them maybe with either the tools or the sockets and cable etc. One of these shared between the band might be an idea if the place is a bit of a dive, use it for all your gear at gigs from then on too. 9. I could be anything from a faulty socket face even just one half of a double socket going back to possibly just the circuit the socket is on if the earth has come away somewhere or even no earth right at the beginning of the wiring so nothing in the whole place has an earth, so it could be anything really, certainly if you find one socket that works ok use that one for now and try the others once you have a tester. I dont supose you have one of those plug in RCD devices on your lawnmower or anywhere do you? That would be worth using for now if you or anyone else in the band has one, any DIY place would have a tester is there anywhere on route?
10. I have actually just bought one of the £3.29 ebay ones to put in my gig bag to save taking my work one with me
11.
That's a good idea, would trying another socket help in the meantime?
If I was uncertain about the wiring at the place I would want to try the plugin tester all over the place http://www.maplin.co.uk/mains-socket-tester-9800 before plugging something like my Genz 9.2 Max head into any of them, thats a thousand quid head ruined if something is wrong! You can pick them up for less than £5 if you look around in fact http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/240V-UK-Mains-Test-Power-Plug-In-Trailing-Socket-Tester-Wiring-Safety-Check-13A-/150757510856?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Other&hash=item2319d90ec8 so I would be sorting that out first IMO
12. Is the sandwich still available and how many watts is it at 3.6548 ohms? I have a 4x10, 1x15, 2x12, an iPod dock and a Behringer combo that I use the power stage from to run the iPod dock then FX out into the 2x12 but it sounds sh*t at the moment which must be the passive P bass causing it rather than the jumble of mismatched sh*te speakers etc.
13.
There are two routes in my opinion Either pick a genre and base Your set list around that as much as possible. Then throw a couple of tenuous songs to the genre to entice other groups of people Eg an indie rock band can do some classic rock like the who etc This means people who like the genre of music you play will book you and they know what to expect Or make yourself as wide and varied as you like , and advertise as a function band. Unfortunate I think this route tends to require leaning about 5 times as many songs and having someone capable to call out things to go with the current dance floor and mood. You tend to appeal to more range of clients but might e a bit more boring or end up playing the same stuff week in week out ( mustang Sally etc) Either way you need to define wht you are going to be doing
I could not agree more, I was in an indie style wedding/pub/function band for about 5 years and we did just that where it was mostly early 90's (James etc) right upto the current stuff which was popular then and still being played now (Killers etc), the only problem was that as the indie chart scene went quiet a few years ago with the last new stuff being things like the Wombats it sort of killed our desire to do it. The latest band I have joined/formed fall much more into the latter anything goes category which should make it more future proof but maybe less fun?
14. From this thread its nice to see that I have been on the right wavelength over the years, I cant disagree with anything said by anyone in this thread
15. I would get a plug in tester for a few quid and try all the sockets in the venue, you might find no earth or a weak one probably even a few with other problems like reversed polarity
16.
It certainly sounds like bad earthing to me. The old rehearsal space in Cambridge had the same issue as my mate rewired the place.
Is your mate a bad electrician then?
17. Can't upload pics for some reason or lent someone my camera even though it says posted by iphone which I beleive is fitted with such a device!
18. Sex on fire is still the most requested imo! Bored of it now......
19. I am still having trouble with my nymans, its rock hard!
20. You could try a......er...actually no just get another Ray!
21. I dont know much about the bass but check out my thread 'french or german?' for some useful info on bows and rosin
22.
Had a good look tonight - all pick up springs are in place and the thread is there as the screw goes in perfectly without the pick up and does not pull out which was my worry. Looks like superglue is the only option!
Are the springs still providing some upwards pressure on the machine screws? If not then the springs might want stretching out a bit, the pickup should be fighting against the screw in the same way jazz basses etc have a thin spring around each screw. If it still does it just a dab of glue will be fine as it has very little tensile strength and just splits away from the thread should you need to remove the screw at some point, just comes away like a moulding of the thread then do the same again next time. You can buy proper thread lock but it's messy IMO
