1. I would get a plug in tester for a few quid and try all the sockets in the venue, you might find no earth or a weak one probably even a few with other problems like reversed polarity
2.
It certainly sounds like bad earthing to me. The old rehearsal space in Cambridge had the same issue as my mate rewired the place.
Is your mate a bad electrician then?
3. Can't upload pics for some reason or lent someone my camera even though it says posted by iphone which I beleive is fitted with such a device!
4. Sex on fire is still the most requested imo! Bored of it now......
5. I am still having trouble with my nymans, its rock hard!
6. You could try a......er...actually no just get another Ray!
7. I dont know much about the bass but check out my thread 'french or german?' for some useful info on bows and rosin
8.
Had a good look tonight - all pick up springs are in place and the thread is there as the screw goes in perfectly without the pick up and does not pull out which was my worry. Looks like superglue is the only option!
Are the springs still providing some upwards pressure on the machine screws? If not then the springs might want stretching out a bit, the pickup should be fighting against the screw in the same way jazz basses etc have a thin spring around each screw. If it still does it just a dab of glue will be fine as it has very little tensile strength and just splits away from the thread should you need to remove the screw at some point, just comes away like a moulding of the thread then do the same again next time. You can buy proper thread lock but it's messy IMO
9. That's it the end with two screws and keep it level too
10. I wind the e string end in as much as possible as to use it as a thumb rest then put the g end slightly raised towards the strings in comparison and fine tune the balance across all the strings in a band setting,I have taken a bass with a legendary weak g to actually having too much output compared to the lower strings and then back to balanced. Get the e end set in as deep as possible first ime
11. I'd put a switch in too, might as well. A passive P bass setup and active musicman 2eq clone preamp would be cool with switching to run either pickup through the active or passive controls?
12. Which is why you can't see a key signature
13. unless it is the 90's Ray 5 sound you are after of course, nothings simple is it?
14. The ceramic pickup will make it sound less like a Ray more than the series parallel bit IMO/E
15. Some cheaper versions are wired in series so if someone had only seen the inside of an original SUB or OLP then they might of told you Rays are series? Full fat Ray always = parallel I wouldnt be able to tell that easily but as my main basses are now Ray 5s obviously they have the switch from series/parallel/single coil (phantom) so I have been able to compare series parallel first hand, I also have one ceramic and one alnico Ray 5 so the bases are all covered!
16. And again out of phase I dont know, +1 series is louder to my ears.
17. Series cuts through better but lacks that ultimate Stingray sound as far as the bottom end is concerned although that might not be an issue if you dont boost the lows all that much but I do as do quite a few others (Musicman20 is a bit of a fairy with his though )
18. Being Flea you would think parallel the same as a standard Ray with a single H?
19. Put a dribble of super glue on the thread, it will come out if you need it to no problem, that said I haven't had that problem. Are the pickup springs in place?
20. Wont be long before it kicks off altogether I guess the next step is to see how much the new necks are then try and beat them down to half of that ammount explaining why of course? not great though is it, what year is the bass again?
21. I wonder if a good luthier could try and steam it straight?
22.
how did I know that was going to happen I haven't, have you a link?
To be fair this is bent the normal way but the outcome is the same http://basschat.co.uk/topic/197957-warwick-thumb-with-a-bent-neck/
