1. Quick update then, I have only had a few minutes here and there to practice with the bow but and its a big but, I am getting better with it! I really need to wait and see what Doddy wants me to do with it but I wont be having a lesson until after he gets back from a long running gig. I am not too sure how tight to have it but I am getting the resin to stick a bit more, maybe as its a brand new bow and brand new resin I need to get it nicely covered and evened out?
2. Thanks mate, sir duke has been dropped for now from the set !
3. First gig is booked for april with the new covers band so I am hoping to be up to some kind of standard by then but long term it is looking like I will be taking a knock on my overall ability
4. Here you go then, been back for a checkup today and remembered to get a picture of the xray for you all to see The doctor on duty today has suggested that I may have more permanent restriction of movement than they first thought due to the fact in his words "its very distal" hence the plate wrapping up and over the end of the bone, it is more clear from the side view which I will try and photograph next time!
5.
Atelier also have a hand in an old brand coming back from the dead... http://www.rockinn.co.jp/goodfellow-londonderry.html
Me likey!
6. Nah I love a juicy fat B here and there, 6 string?
7.
SGC Nanyo Bass Collections? Surely the penny will drop soon as to how undervalued and how great these basses are?
I used an sb320 in trans green as my main bass for a long time, fantastic bass. I sold mine for £250 a few years ago and it was a better built bass than most of the stuff in the £1000+ region available new now
8.
I'm a G&L fan and I would say that MFD pickups are the best thing about G&Ls. Also the G&L Saddle Lock bridge is a refinement of the Sabre bridge, and it's all by the same guy, so can't we just get along?
Where would the fun in that be?
9. I have a slightly worn kidney right here if anyone knows where the Inca silver Ray is
10.
Gain is at 12 o'clock these days, love her!
Great picture!
11. I would of preferred the normal Sabre bridge, you know the one all the G&L fans say is the best thing about G&L that was actually on the Sabre first but you have to let them have some enjoyment
12. Most of the time you will round the heads on the screws long before splitting any wood ime, it's designed to come off for maintenance and adjustments so I see no issue, my black ray 5 had a fretless neck when it left California!
13.
I had what I thought was a misaligned bridge, 1977 Precision brand new. I complained to Fender UK, v prompt and helpful reply. Loosen strings, loosen neck bolts, tap the neck on lower side at headstock, (moves E string side upwards in pocket in rotational movement, increases string to neck edge gap on G string). Retighten neck bolts and strings. http://www.tdpri.com/forum/tele-home-depot/174767-how-align-neck-body.html Ron Kirn's post has a good photo that explains what I mean. This may be part of your problem, then again may not. Can we have a photo of a straight edge (metre ruler etc) against G (D with your tuning) side of neck. Hope you get the customer service you need.
The six bolt necks on these won't shift and most rays neck pockets are tighter than a nuns chuff.
14.
cock on?
Must be a regional thing? Possibly derived from the scientific measurement of "a gnats cock".
15.
The thing that always struck me the most about that Lakland demo is how different that early pre -EBMM Musicman sounds to a current EBMM Stingray.
They have more of everything IMO, seriously awesome basses, the black 79 in my sig has been owned by a few members here and it's my least favourite bass really but man does it sound good in a live mix!
16.
Correct. Although I dont see how the age of an instrument has any impact on build quality. A human is just as competent at aligning a bridge as any computer. I dont think anyone is having a go at EB, in fact I'm pretty sure this thread is mostly made up of mm fans. Bridges are aligned badly on a great deal of commercial instruments old and new. You see it all the time.
The age is only a factor here because the pre EB basses are totally different beasts, from the first EBMM Ray they had body contours etc proving that all the previous body cutting gear was done away with so the methods used in '79 were different to 2009. I agree once production went to cnc the age of the basses for bridge aligment is neither here nor there though. I dont think a human is as good anyway not when done at speed to make massive amounts of cash in a factory, I would rather let the laser guided machine drill the two anchor points and it be cock on
17. The OPs bass I presume has a bent neck but the pre EB is just because of the misplaced bridge, remeber that it is 30+ years old and not an EBMM product in any way however similar they look. I think it should get a new neck even if its a few years old, I have never seen it before and its not fit for purpose is it so the 12 month warranty is neither here nor there these days, best of luck with it
18. Strangley barring budget basses the worst bass I ever tried was a Yamaha billy sheehan thing, loose bits, faulty pickup etc but also the best bass I ever played fit and finish wise was a Yamaha BBNE5 Nathan East.
