1.
I would just like to say that I would happily put my Ashdown MiBass rig up against anything and defy anyone to say anything negative about it.
I better bring my shuttleMax 9.2 to my next lesson then (which I will text you about later actually, ta)
2.
The bass player I heard using an Ashdown Little Giant 1000w the other night certainly didn't sound wooly or muddy. My mate, who uses a little EB180, doesn't sound wooly either. He gets a very nice slap tone. Having heard other people use them, I certainly wouldn't be put off the brand.
I honestly think the cheaper ones sound better, more focused too. Even when I was flying the ABM evo Ashdown flag that was clear to me, I have said so in numerous ashdown knocking threads
3.
Well I'm not rising to the bait other than to say if it works for you, great. But personally have zero complaints about the ABM tone. Its a superb rock amp and I find it perfect in my band setting. I've tried genz shuttles and they were great, sure. But didn't make me particularly want one. More versitile? Probably. As good? Maybe (didn't spend long enough to say really, but it wasn't an instant hit). As desirable? Depends if you're happy with something that looks like a halfords car radio Each to their own. When its time for a rig change I'll take another look.
Its the versatility I need though, everything else I agree with really
4. Tried everything with it, had a tweeter and an eminence crossover installed in the end before it kept playing up at gigs and got sold for spares on ebay, going to genz was the best thing I ever did although it did show up my shoddy playing for a good while!
5. One day mate, one day
6. My clip on tuner is a little bit out, Polytune ftw
7. Got me gassing for one again now, I have nearly owned...an SB-1, L2000K, L2500K and a 5500 all fell through for reasons no fault of the basses!
8. Yes Cass Lewis was who I was thinking of! Great player too
9. Didnt Tony Kanal from no doubt use an asat? I think its just a case of the P and Jazz basses being so popular then the Ray sneaking up behind with little room for anything else being as popular, other MM basses have always lived in the shadow of the Ray (sabre and sterling) G&L stuggling to find a share of the market is an extension of that problem rather than any problem with the basses. I have been so close to owning one so many times!
10.
The ABM isn't designed to be super transparent, but neither is it the one trick pony everyone who has played through it for 30 seconds, got puzzled by the EQ and given up, makes it out to be
Like I said I had it 10 years mate wooly as jumper my dear old nan used to knit
11.
+1 No problems at all with clarity or top end. I did find their 15 speakers less distinct than the 10s - but no suprises there. ABMs are also designed/marketed around a fairly strong signature tone, which doesn't suite everyone (just same as more transparent/uncoloured amps don't suit everyone either). If you try and dial it out you'll get frustrated quite quickly. If you work with it the results can be plenty impressive.
The problem wit this and comments about slappers is that sure I can get a super transparent sound from any of my Genz heads but they can also do the bottom end either as a mix or on its own for a super tight thumpy thing, I would happily put my 900w twin channel (FET and Tube mixed or solo'd) against any of the EVO heads (I had one for 10 years) and it will do everything the Ashdown can plus the top end thing, even on the foot switch if you really want to be versatile. For anyone playing multiple styles I just think things have moved on from a warmed over Trace Elliot PCB from the 80's
12.
She totaly murdered "you got the love"; and I mean murdered in a bad way. That awful vocal part of hers towards the end always makes me turn off the radio!
It is one of those where I can hear it just thinking about it especially the bit where she sounds like a siren (out of tune siren) awful just awful, "but she is amazing", no she is not!
13. I thought this was going to be a Florence and the machine thread but the op meant consistently off pitch end to end not just the chorus, as you were
14. It's the cabs a much as the heads, I have run my shuttles through Ashdown cabs and it just removes all the top end.
15. I will try again later.......
16.
Is that how much they're worth now , or do you think the market will decide ? Saw one the same as this a couple of years ago , and it sold for £1300 . Nice though
Should of snapped it up for yourself!
17. I still love Ray 5s they just get the job done, I always feel the same about Lakland 55-02s too
18.
Encore and Gorilla
Or for younger viewers, Squier and Behringer?
19. The rosin is curved up around the edges though, do I need to reshape it?
20.
OK, i've had a flick through some bass lines and think you could safely say that there are some bands with more complex bass lines: - Beatles - Santana (complex rhythms as well as pitch variations) - Stones - Weather Report (OK, that's probably a given) - Rush - Hendrix (look at the chorus on 'Spanish Castle Magic'!) - Alanis Morissette (look at 'You Oughta Know' - syncopation, ghosting, non-diatonic notes peppered in...) and maybe many more... I'd like to point out (once again) that I like U2, but they have some of the simplest bass lines around and wondered how common this was
I always felt sorry for the regular bass player on that Alanis track, how would we like Flea coming and stealing our thunder?! The original version is on the album at the end and the other bass player ain't too shabby anyway
21. I am holding the open rosin in one hand and running the bow along the side of the block, do I need to rub it on the top instead, it hasnt really got a good area to go at? I am starting to get something like a tune out of it though, need a lesson once my wrist is better.
22.
I'm all for reissuing punctuation.
It was all Samung's finest work.
23. I am looking for a drummer that wants to donate me an old snare stand
