1. The rosin is curved up around the edges though, do I need to reshape it?
2.
OK, i've had a flick through some bass lines and think you could safely say that there are some bands with more complex bass lines: - Beatles - Santana (complex rhythms as well as pitch variations) - Stones - Weather Report (OK, that's probably a given) - Rush - Hendrix (look at the chorus on 'Spanish Castle Magic'!) - Alanis Morissette (look at 'You Oughta Know' - syncopation, ghosting, non-diatonic notes peppered in...) and maybe many more... I'd like to point out (once again) that I like U2, but they have some of the simplest bass lines around and wondered how common this was
I always felt sorry for the regular bass player on that Alanis track, how would we like Flea coming and stealing our thunder?! The original version is on the album at the end and the other bass player ain't too shabby anyway
3. I am holding the open rosin in one hand and running the bow along the side of the block, do I need to rub it on the top instead, it hasnt really got a good area to go at? I am starting to get something like a tune out of it though, need a lesson once my wrist is better.
4.
I'm all for reissuing punctuation.
It was all Samung's finest work.
5. I am looking for a drummer that wants to donate me an old snare stand
6.
Phew! I can breathe again, at last. Well done for sorting it out.
I know!
7.
I put 4/4 Weichs on my Stagg after a few discussions on TB - much better fit, and when set up for correct intonation the bridge was upright (wasn't able to with the stock strings) and the dots pretty much line up with the notes. The tension of the Weichs is lovely for me, but I'm used to fretless basses.
With hindsight this would be my option, at last now in ten years time I will be able to fit the quarters again haha
8.
This is certainly one to discuss on Pie Night Pete!
Got to love pie night!
9. I think as Prime said you get the spring plate and 4 thumb turns with that though to be fair
10. Looks like is meant to take 4/4 strings?
11. Nicer on the hands thats for sure, had a little play with my new bow and actually got a sort of tune from each string which I am pleased about as some people said bowing a Stagg was hard, not if I can do it! Practice tomorrow night which will be more telling especially the lighter tension which should be better, the first few tones from the nut are much easier to press and for some reason (maybe because I am not fighting it) sound more in tune to me and the Polytune!
12. The bow
13. Got them on! Took a lot of drilling and had to undo some of the silks but they are on and all the main string is over the nut, just and at the bridge I will put some clear nail varnish over the frayed silks to tidy them up and stop the spread also I might get my woodworking mate to make me a new tail piece that fits up over the body about 20mm made of mahogany or similar, if this one lets go I will have to anyway.
14. I have took the foil off it to get at it is that right? Such a noob I am sorry
15. Bow has arrived! Pics later....... Oh and how exactly do I apply rosin? Thanks
16. I like them Tobias basses
17. Mousemat cut up is the normal trick but I found some childrens foam stamp kits in a pound shop, cut them up, glued them on job done
18. Sorry in the heat I have indeed said mm! not cm I may be able to counter sink the tail piece enough tomorrow night to allow them to fit where they will stay for at least ten years! If my plan fails it will not result in any more damage to the strings and I can measure them from the ball to the silks to be sure and list each measurement, remember I have only cut 15cm and the silk is still well over onto my fingerboard hence the problem.
19. ON HOLD UNTIL I CAN SEE IF A MODIFICATION CAN BE DONE
20.
A cup of tea for starters I think if you plan on sticking with these strings then its worth the shot and maybe stopping at 20mm and trimming a bit of silk back. I actually tried trimming the silks on mine before realising They still wouldnt fit and went for the countersinking so mine, I assume, arent worth much but then Im not planning on changing them at all. They last for a long time. Just detuned my E completely and the stretch is 18mm. They have been on for over a year so you could probably add a couple of mm to that. A
I think I will just have to sacrifice the silks then and try taking a bit out at a time, job for tomorrow now anyway.
21. I think the yellow discs are a lame attempt at damping the strings at that end, I have a lump of foam behind my strings and presume everyone else does? I could take 10 mm from the body and move the tail piece up a bit and then take the rest by countersinking the ball ends to keep more wood left, I have just had a look and the G string will only need a tickle but the others will be level with the screws nearest the bridge.
22. So yours are Mittles but should be the same length then, Hhhmmm what to do????? If I knew how much stretch the E would have I could allow for it and not take so much out? Thanks for your help on this apa
23.
Just measured mine by sticking a pencil from the back. The back end of the ball is 23mm from the front of the block. If you take away the diameter of the ball from 23mm you will have the amount of wood left. There is no sign of damage or stress on mine. All is solid. A
So that is from the side nearest the bridge to the back of a spiro ball? I have just measured a ball at about 10mm so you think you have about 13mm of wood left? Does your have the yellow foam pads in too or have you discarded them? Thanks.
24. I have listed them for £100 do you think that sounds fair? If I put 4/4 strings on it then will I need to go for mittels or stay with the weichs?
