1. I did not have anyone to lend one from, my Spiro weichs have still have not come either I have found open string to be my friend, sods law after taking to the five stringers 2 years ago and shifing everything up so doing covers in different keys with different bands would be easier (and it is) I am now trying to convert my fingering to work from the open strings and first few notes (half position Clarky?) Love it
2. And the new >07 (ish) Stingray 5's now have the Alnico pickup and same 3 band EQ as a regular Rays so they are not that different a beast anymore
3. Some harsh comments on the Classic Rays, its not like a Fender rehash really, it has a slab body so thats not off the shelf, strung through strings which is unique to the classic as has its repro pre EB muted bridge, they also come with either a flamed maple or birdseye maple neck rather than an unlaquered plain maple like all the rest For me its still all about either a 2 or 3 band Ray with a single H, just choose your coulour and fingerboard and be done with ya
4. Yes another newbie, welcome to the club mate! I am really enjoying mine even though it is now known as the money pit Have you had a scam through my total noob thread? there is lots of useful stuff the good folk here have told me and sent links to etc obviously mine is a cheapo stagg but a lot of the info will be the same, the strings thread info might be useful (and costly) to you too and what about a bow? I am more excited about playing now than I have in years, enjoy
5.
That's a cool idea too. It would be a nice way to raise some more money for BC.
I think this is whats Jimryan has gone for mate with half to BC and half to cancer research?
6. 5 strings are not just about extended range and tab is going to be laid out to suit the majority surely?
7.
Haha. I know it's just a bit of fun It's good to be able to recognise the notes on the stave quickly on a computer but it's a different story-and more important-to be able to do it on the instrument. There is a similar thing on Victor Wootens website where it shows you a note and you 'play' it on a bass neck
I used to have the frodis app on my ipod which was brilliant, shows the staff with a note including accidentals and you touch the note on the imaginary bass 4, 5 or 6 string left or right handed bass, I am all android now though
8. I have Paul don't tell me off spent most of yesterday reading/playing from the Rufus Reid evolving bassist book, the game was just for fun
9. The typing holds me back, that's my excuse!
10. Welcome to the great wizard club MrTaff
11.
Thanks for the suggestions so far guys, there's a few here for me to try out. I did notice a Sibelius First which is around £90 - still more than I wanted to pay really but perhaps another option...
Well musescore is free and does what you said in the op, takes a few seconds to download and easy to uninstall if you decide to upgrade, I have been reading for two years on and off and its far far far more advanced than me
12.
Ooh this looks like fun, thanks for posting. Drummer rating here I come EDIT. Bugger doesn't work on the iPad I'll have to fire up the big boy.
Yes I just tried it on Tablet does not work as it needs flash player 7
No matter how fast I click I can't get beyond Wizard level .
Try and try again, you dont need to work or sleep or eat or any of that stuff just keep at it
13. I use a mouse as I cant type well enough to find the letters/notes, I could half it if I knew where the letters where to hand but thats a whole new skill to spend years on I keep thinking to try it on my Galaxy Tab to see if it works by tapping the notes?
14. I have Musescore which does exactly what you want and I think its free!? In fact I think this was your recommendation Doddy when I posted a similar thread over a year ago?
15.
I like it. Lets see how well it goes first, but aspiring to get it overseas? I love it :-p as long as I returns to get auctioned. Can any of the mods help out with sorting a white BC polo for this?
I was just thinking along the lines of someone who perhaps goes over anyway that could call in at a members gig/practice/studio film it sign it and bring it back or similar, we all travel with work and stuff so I bet someone gets over there, could ask Johnston, Doh!
16. I think any kind of musical venture should be included, some younger members might not do gigs as such but might be doing college or school shows etc, one of MiltyG's web shows would be cool, a studio session etc as long as its documented? Gives everyone a chance which will also generate more pounds
17. Be nice to get it over to Ireland and maybe some of the little islands too?
18. Pete Stingray - Stafford (Staffordshire obviously)
19.
bass clef wizard 1.3 seconds tremble with fear mortals
What were you doing making a brew between notes?
