1. Lots of good info there though, so much to learn about! I am hoping my rufus reid book will arrive tomorrow too.
2. I think it is down to Spiros but weich or mittel for an eub?
3. I was not really even disagreeing, more devils advocate really. If you are making music you are a musician imo, if you are playing golf you are a golfer, football a footballer etc after that each case will depend on how well you do it, if people enjoy what you are doing it is job done
4. The first time you hear them they just about raise a smile, its all down hill after that!
5. Funny thing is I have had much fiestier rows with folk on here without that kind of thing, mcnach, TimR and a good few others have enjoyed a good debate with me but now get along well with me, maybe me and Inti will become pals?
6. So inti just removed his own offensive posts (not aimed at me btw) then private messages me a threatening message asking if I am harassing him! Classic
7. If they are going to last I dont mind and I would rather have a set of them than a months council tax anyway, a bow, rosin and a couple of hours lesson with the next free months
8. If you could only have one set for your Stagg which would it be?!
9. Our local shop is the same, women comes in for a recorder for her child, he takes two different ones from under the counter one is £7 one is £12, "whats the difference?" "£5". He thinks he is a legend when really she thinks he is a dick and will buy the next item from Thomanns online in future They have a used for sale notice board that has down the side- Second Hand Instruments To Enjoy OK so its a bit funny but you get the idea of what this shop is like, its the only one in a 10 mile radius though.
10. Trust me I am unsubscribed, you come here and say you like a debate yet anyone who raises a point is a troll or a mediocre clown is it? see you later, you dont play upright do you? I like it over there
11. I need to stop looking at this, I have no where to keep it and the wife would kill me but as ezbass says I think a lot of people would like to own that just to look at, I know I would......must not look again........
12. So if you do grade 5 violin at school and never play again your a musician but if you play gigs most weekends to a high standard and get everyone on the dance floor week in week out your a hobbyist?
13. Yeah thats nice mate have a walnutlicous bump on me!
14. I am swaying to the Spiros then you know, anyone got a set going nice and cheap Where is the cheapest place if I decide to bite the bullet and buy a fresh set? 2 months off the council tax coming up, thats a carbon bow, pot of rosin and a set of spiros if you ask me!
15.
Clarky gave you a pretty comprehensive round up on strings . It can be a long process getting the string that really suits you and your bass. Different basses react uniquely to different strings. Spiro Weich's are a great String and tend to suit most basses and playing styles. Good for arco too IMO. They are the type of string you can put on nearly every bass and just concentrate on the music.
They do look like a sort of one shoe fits all string for me, way past my own capability and I fancy a go at everything so strings that are great for pizz but cant be played with a bow are out and visa versa
And of course, there is Daf's Innovation string trial on this very forum where you can try out different Innovation strings for the price of the postage.
I like the look of Honeys, what do you think?
16.
So, if its all in the fingers and the player ability being more important than the gear why do we have 16,000 topics (with quarter of a million replies) in the Bass Guitar and Amps sections but 1600 topics in the Theory section? If you consider nearly 2,000 in the 'Gear Porn' but 129 in the Groove Library you'd be forgiven for thinking being a bass player was more about having than playing.
Buying gear takes a few moments, I know as I am about to buy a bow and some strings if the boss will let me, learning to read or learning a new skill on an instrument takes months, years or maybe even a lifetime, I started on Lojo's bass clef YTS thread in Nov 2010, I am the only person left doing it and I am on page 20 of the reading book thats less than 10 pages a year!
17.
Thanks for all the replies guys. This is true, was just weighing up as at 235 for the Head thats cheaper than if I wanted to buy 3 effects pedals
It also gives you a spare head, I have run my Shuttle 3.0 through the power amp of my 6.0 as I prefer the sound of the all FET 3.0 to the 6.0, the plus side is that if one amp packed up during a gig a few leads moved around has you up and running in no time, the smaller of the two is also handy as a practice amp or taking to a practice room with the enevitable worn out Trace GP7 in the corner
18. Thanks for those weeleigh, Fever did come up at practice actually played by the drummer would you believe as everyone wanted a go on the beast! All of those would fit in with stuff we have already too, nice one ta Funny thing really as this came about due to breaking my arm/wrist and now with more practice and some good song choices it could really define our covers band as a two possible sets act depending on the gig, first half gentle and upright bass orientated with the second set all electric and more rock based or just a nice jumble up of the lot for shorter sets, cant wait
19. It sure does Les, you cant beat first hand experience. Maybe the finer details will be lost on me at the moment anyway so as long as they are decent I bet they will improve the Stagg and my playing until I have learnt a bit more about what I want, secondhand spiro's on my radar then
