I suspect you are mixing up what you have heard about the much cheaper MBE series cabs (which are clearly made down to a price) with the much higher quality neo cabs. You will struggle to find much bad written about these GK neo cabs, as most owners simply seem very happy, and I can attest to this. it' a little unfair to put down something you have no experience of, and have not tried to find out a balanced online experience of.
Thats fair enough I have indeed mixed it up with the cheapo one which does have issues (many on this forum over the last few months), fwiw I have tried GK gear inc the 2x12 and for me the 4 ohms, taller cabinet, front porting and rubber castors still swayed me anyway, in its defence again the Genz is much more expensive still at an extra £300.
Hard to disagree with this.
Its easy to disagree with, you do the gig but with duck tape over the logo or even scratch the Fender logo off, anyone ever heard of Stuart Zender? That has been around for many years before he did it afaik, amps with the badges removed is common too.
Janek Gwizdala?....*giggles* I played for a living more than ten years of my life so I know what Iam talking about. I left that stinky world voluntary, as a student you're getting into it now so it's hard for me to make my point clear due to the differences in experience but thanks anyway.
Lets hear who you are then bigshot? *giggles*
Agreed. 210 not loud enough. Anyone tried the genz NEOX NX2 212T?.
Yep and it should match your 2x10 and 1x15 imo, equal to any 4x10 and better than many I have used, no idea what the barefaced are like but I'd be surprised if the gk was even close, I know they have some build quality issues too but then again a neox is £800.

Just caught some top of the pops, boring array of retro fenders mostly sb and tort or olly white, I like them but its stuff like this that will make them unpopular again IMO, don't panic though because they will come back around again and again!
-
IME they often make subtle differences just so the models dont tread on each others toes! My Genz 3.0 is all FET but the 6.0 has a Valve preamp, someone who wants the valve will plump for the more expensive one, someone who wants an amp bigger than 300 watt but solidstate rather than the valve preamp (and there are plenty of people out there who do regardless of what the experts tell me is enough) will have to go up to a Max series head to get that feature, I know all this to be true because I did just that, went for the 6.0 as my main head, bought a 3.0 as a spare/practice room head, preferred the sound of the 3.0 and bought a 9.2 Max twin channel head to essentially get the preamp of the 3.0 but with the power stage from a 900w shuttle Most things are marketed like this, cars manufacturers being the experts!

OK modifications almost all done Stripped all the old poor shielding out Put just the piezos in the slots and shielded the whole cavity inc the back plate Ran the power cables one side and the jack cable up the other the shielded the lot, you cant see behind the controls but its all done the same Wrapped the endpin in the foam that the bass came in and spun sellotape over it to keep it tight Used a chunk of the packing foam to make a mute, this is the most important and easiest mod IMO Even with my amp on full its as quiet as a church mouse Already filed all the nut slots and the bridge a little bit on the E string, new strings are going on at some point and it will be perfect, can't really see the need to upgrade to anything else at the moment? Better get back to playing it now
Can't go wrong!
Thats sorted then thanks
I've got one of these, and good players who have tried it say it's excellent for the money. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item230f4fd170 Posted from China, but arrived very quickly. You might want to check out Rabbath's Art of the Bow video, if you can get it. Very helpful (although I can't imagine what t would take to get me bowing reliably. )
Thats very pretty!
Yeh they are good those bows for the money.... But if you have the money get a Claude Marchand
Maybe once I can use it I will upgrade to something better

I can usually spot the troll that is pointing out to his mate that you are not playing the B string, I always make sure I play some nice bits on in while they are looking, plectrum trolls are out there two always nice to play 8 songs with a pick while the troll tells his (uninterested) mates that you are a pick player and he is a proper player as he only uses fingers then put the pick away for the last few songs and chuck a bit of slap in two!

Has Guy Pratt played since the 80's?
I got a German bow at first bubt then got one of these ..... http://www.stringemp...t-bass-bows.htm
I think my level will be more suited to the Thomann one for now Bilbo! I think it will be this one, just waiting for payday http://www.thomann.de/gb/artino_fiberglass_bassbow_3_4f.htm
Enjoy! I have loved learning to use the bow.
Thanks, I will try and enjoy it!

Spoke to the main man and he is a Frenchy so a French it will be
If you're doing classic rock covers why would you need to improvise? Genuinely confused.
Really? This for me is where the ERB is king, never mind dropped A tuning doom jazz or whatever, give me the key that you do a well known song in and I am away, the 5 makes it so much easier once you get your head around the playing off the E on the B string thing.

I dont see the issue with having more than one, I like them so I have them. I am not into shoes or suits etc so I only have one pair of shoes and one suit. Most of my gear has been paid for by gigging over the years too so its a bit of something to show for all the hard work and the 2 pre EB's realistically although used in anger the least are never going to go down in value so unless I need to sell them they wont be going anywhere for a while If I had to keep just one strangely it would be my cheapest, the 2007 Ray5 which was once a fretless but now has a 2004 fretted neck! As said before needs and wants are different.
Yes, but my point is not "there are no basses that are suitable for all gigs", it was "not all basses are suitable for all gigs"
Ah I see! I quite like the idea of seeing someone playing a Bootsy star bass in a pit
You could use the Steinberger to dig the tunnel with !
Very good
-
Its one of those basses I would buy if I won the lottery, a tunnel with a 51 P bass hangin up at one end and everything there after in chronological order inc the steinberger, which would be the only one on a stand instead of a hanger I suppose, plan failed before it got started there
Like it or not (and on the whole, I do like it) image is an important part of many forms of music. Turn up to audition for a punk band with a 6 string single cut coffee table bass and you probably won't get the gig. Turn up to audition for a smooth jazz band with a beaten up BC Rich warlock, with skull and crossbones stickers all over it and "f*** the police" scratched into it and you probably won't get the gig. Yes, some people have got stupidly snobbish about it---and these people should just be avoided (and at least you find out early)---but any bass player who thinks "I will be able to turn up to any audition with any bass and get the gig" is simply not living in reality.
I have a CAR Jazz that I reckon could be used in any situation, its only a four so solo noodle stuff might be hard but I can't play like that, punk, jazz, rock, funk, indie and blues can all be played on a CAR Jazz with a black pick guard I'd say?
-
Take or leave for me unless its a headless? then I'd say seriously uncool! That said if something was suitable for the job and priced right I'd buy it I am much more unfashionable than any of my basses anyway!
It says it's sold....
It was put on for £12k then disappeared, re appeared as sold for £13k a few Weeks later!
I'm sure glad I don't play bass to make a living, judging by this thread.
I will play something suitable for any gig if asked and can cover anything from the 70s up to present day 4 or 5 string in retro natural finish or modern sparkly finishes, all of them Stingrays
-
It was listed a few Weeks ago, gone up a grand already!
-
I actually went to five strings to join a band Its more of a session arrangement (for peanuts) and the roll could only be done on a 5, it has got me into a much wider group of musicians, dep gigs and even a totally new band that is just taking off. I would not of done it if I had not wanted but I am glad I did, I guess the difference here is that my situation is more akin to session work where you would be told what to play and what to play it through rather than a band with everyone trying to have equal input, certainly in our covers band I take whichever bass I feel like!
