1.
You are quite right Pete , but I personally find the EBMM Stingrays to be quite a bit more zingy -sounding than an old pre- EBMM Ray .
So do I, too zingy really and they lack the thump of a pre EB, either have more than enough top end for anything I have ever wanted to do though. Strung through pre EBs has more tension on the strings which will add a bit of something extra for the ham fisted slapper and possibly what gives them the extra thump? That said my '82 is top loaded and has more thump than any EBMM anyway. The SR5's I find a totally different animal really for this genre at least.
2. Nice one Fumps, mine is litterally on its way here right now, I am waiting for a knock at the door
3.
Its worth pointing out , a new EBMM Stingray isn't goint to sound exactly like Louis Johnson's bass in that clip . His basses were specially tweaked by Leo Fender to have a super-powerful slap sound , and even Louis doesn't know what Leo did to them .
I dont think that much TBH really do you? super strong magnets and all that I think is probably a load of shiz I think there would be loads more reason why people dont sound like Louis Johson before that will concern anyone Also they were pre EB Rays so all the pre EB factors would get you closer than an EBMM 2 band.
4. Forget the bass anyway its all about the hat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAPF-9Tjp-M
5. If your after the Bernard Edwards tone I have never heard a 3 EQ get close and really only the pre EB rays gets it nailed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KUL9-eNXzQ Same as the master Louis got to be a 2 EQ IMO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iK5IFyo0k0Q Your never going to get a passive P bass to sound like that (some will say good but you get my point about the top end)
6. I dont think so and although either version will give you that sizzle on the top end and the thump on the bottom people claim a P bass can do but can't I am not sure it will make slap that much easier for you to be honest, practice practice practice. That said sometimes a new found love and the tone you are after can inspire you to practice so there is some value to it Loads of slap records have been done on Jazz basses, P basses and 2 or 3 EQ Stingrays over the years
7. Ha you know what my wife would say! I do fancy a bow and they do a carbon one which I am told is the only budget option (Db world now folks carbon is budget!) and some strings maybe if I need them but its going to be a january order if not after (you know me I am lying I will be buying stuff by the weekend).
8. Everything else is the same and the colours are not only available on the 133 so once you leave the shop it makes no difference at all (other than the case)
9. If you are referring to the 133 series then they are 2 band (which I prefer anyway) but they dont have a hard case and come in for £1000 sometimes with a limited range of colours. There is some extra work involved in a 3 band as the body has to be drilled for the jack socket because its not on the control plate anymore but thats not a massive deal. I would go for a 2 band everytime myself
10. I cant even play a fretless so I cant see me gigging with it anytime soon! I am watching the front door like a hawk now, what is they say ..... a watched pot never boils Managed to get to the job and home with no calling card on the mat though so fingers crossed................
11.
D'oh! Just realised it's not muting because it's in my effects loop, not at the front end!
That was a very brave thing to do by admitting it
12. Only for local authoritys so where all the cuts have been made!
13. As long as you never want to sell it! This parcel is going to turn up while I am out, all the neighbours are out too!
14. ITS ON ITS WAY!!!!! Delivery before the end of today, it was in Stoke at 5am this morning Oooooshh Now here is the snagg, I have got to go and do a quote for work at a nearby school so what the fecking betting it turns up if I go out?
15.
You reckon I should make the purchase then?! If I spend big tomorrow, it's on the cards I think My bank account is quaking! My ex was never that sh1t getting a Pepsi.
I bet it is, only you can tell if its going to suit you dude let me know as soon as you set off to Bernies. Pepsi wait was shocking although she was freaked out by the staring!
hmm, yeah. Let us know how physic goes when you get to that stage. Have you got an appointment for it yet?
No they are going to call me but there is a private place in the village where I live (what are the chances of that?) so I might book a few sessions there if needs be, cant really put a cost on things like this can you?
16. I can play a fretted bass out of tune anyway I am ok with tools (see broken wrist thread for confirmation ) so filing the nut does not scare me nor does the rattley end pin so I guess it just depends on how bad the strings are on mine, some people have had them delivered with shot ones which I am sure Thomann would be happy to replace with a set of new Stagg strings but it might be worth putting something decent on right away, at a cost of 1/3 of the bass!
17. Cheers mate it is quite swollen your right, I have a splint to wear but the doctor said to take it off when watching tv etc a try and wiggle my wrist until I get sorted with some proper physio.
18.
Is it being delivered by DHL or UPS?
Not sure? just using the link on the Thomann site.
Recently ordered a Stagg EUB and a tuner from Thomann and it took 6 days from hitting 'enter' to delivery including a weekend. Seems it spent most of the time in an airport... but to be honest was excellent service. Be prepared for a hilariously over sized box (length, that is; pfnarr..) which took me a few attempts to get into the car as i had it delivered to work.
Cool how are you finding the EUB? are the strings rubbish, does it rattle, does the nut need filing down a bit? Plenty of questions Can you play it or are you a novice like me? I say novice mine is not even here yet so I am a minus novice really
19.
Pete - I saw you pouring gravy on your pie last night - that hand is going to be just great. We need more pie nights in our life... especially if it involves freaking out the girl who looks suspiciously like my ex-girlfriend! Anyway, give it some physio and some time and you'll be back to your normal self. If not, there's always lap bass... and your name is on a Yammy upright already. Question is, do I buy my new toys...?
Toys are always for the win!-fact (got the -fact thing from another thread it is my new favourite!) Pies are also good but ex alike was wierd
20.
Are you normally this condescending?-fact
21. Looks great too, the next time I see a used 2x12T I am going to be so tempted, I cant run the pair off one head obviously but by using the 9.2 Max for one and the Line in and outs on my 6.0 I can run the other from there
