1. Thanks TPJ, I have no idea what I like but I guess I will start listening much more now! I'm not really a jazz cat but would likt to have a dabble, I'm not really a rockabilly fan either but again I will give it ago although I know eubs are not known for being much use for that, on the other hand I was listening to some Gary Karr clips on you tube, made me want a bow! Is their a budget bow worth buying? So many questions, sorry
2. Says on the email orders placed over the weekend won't be processed until monday anyway.
3.
Yoy could always ask Thomann themselves?
But the answers here will be unbiased I see you have the Stagg in violin burst whats it like?
4.
Passive all the way for me. I love the sound of Stingrays, but having had a couple earlier this year, I realise it`s the sound of others playing them that I like. Anything in my hands other than a passive Precision just sounds wrong to me, even a Precision with a J bridge pickup.
This is my exact opposite! All my heros are P bass players but its the sound of them on a P bass I like not the sound of me on one, any Ray and I am at home.
5. Thats great then I fancy reading more too so obviously that will be good to go hand in hand, I am a novice reader so can you or anyone else suggest any books or pieces worth getting hold of? something nice and steady and fairly simple to follow or at least be able to simplify for now. A lot of people are talking about changing the cheap strings on them straight away, again I have no idea! Like no idea at all, after playing bass for 25 years nearly you would think I would of learnt something but this is a new thing alltogether, might aswell be asking about surfing or darts!
6. I guess what I want to know, and it sounds promising then, is if I learn to play the Stagg would I then be able to transfer the skill to a real DB or a better EUB and play it with some kind of conviction?
7. pm already sent to Doddy Thanks Clarky, do you think the Stagg will be any good to learn on or will it either put me off or having me gassing for either a better eub or even a DB?
8. I have read a few posts and got some good advice from them already but most were more should I go for a DB or an EUB? threads or ended up that way anyway. I certainly have not got the room for a DB so thats easy and I drive a '57 Morris Minor saloon not traveller anyway. Over time who knows but for now EUB and not too much outlay so I'm afraid its a Stagg rather than a NS but I am happy to buy a better one if I can get a tune out of this one. So where do I start? And I mean literally, I have no idea!
9. Thats it really, just ordered my first EUB! No idea when it will arrive?
10.
Excellent explanation.
Thanks, I have made one useful post out of nearly 5000
11. You said you had ignored it as the word biased came up, like I said over and out
12. Btw I'm not saying buy a musicman I'm saying take on board what everyone said and try them all, anywho I think your already gassing for the Fender so its your call not mine, I doubt anything I can say will be taken on board so I shall leave you to it.
13. We are only biased because we have tried, owned or own most of the basses mentioned and settled (for now) on musicman, other people are biased because they own a particular brand no more no less. I have played everthing from Alleva to Zon in the 4 and 5 string variety and still happy with my Rays, if any of them had made more of an impression on me you can see from my sig alone that I could sell the lot and buy a 4 and 5 string pair of most basses within reason, but I haven't
14.
Cheers man, but i was wondering more what people thought of the bass i mentioned in the OP, but it has somehow descended into which bass is best, which wasn't what i was looking for at all.
Within a few posts I thought it was fairly obvious the general feeling was that there is better out there for the same or less money? Truth is its not what you want to hear
15. For £ 20 less than the cost of choosing a colour matched head stock on a stingray 5 I don't think anyone can argue with that!
16.
mate theres another thread that was about pricing of secondhand stuff, stingrays and warwicks in particular and it's still limping along full of people saying things like "I like stingrays" I like stingray's too" "i think they are very good" "I like their necks" etc etc some threads will go on an infinitium until someone gets compared to a Nazi
Did someone mention stingrays?
17.
Yep, I have one of these in my gig bag: http://www.maplin.co...ket-tester-9800 I also use an RCD adapter for my amp. Maybe not 100% exhaustive in the safety stakes, but pretty close and at minimal cost.
You would be very unlucky to get anything worse that a tickle using that lot, you could add a big lump hammer in the kit for bopping guitarists on the head that refuse to use your RCD in case it goes off and recks a valve, la dee darr!
18. In all honesty the Squier ones have been nicer to play than the USA IME, bag a nice Squier Jazz V and play only that bass no matter how important the gig for a month or two before playing a four again and your all set
19. I dont mind a skinny nut width, in fact I dont care too much these days but even the narrowest of 5ers is going to have some girth! The pre EB rays are very shallow in profile especially the 82 so that will be the first one to try out my skills with on monday night, its also very light weight, you can see why its my best bass then!
