1.
Yet Good chance to learn! Good luck!
Very true I will mention it to the wife and see if santa wants to bring me one!
 2.
I should just take it steady , mate. Push but don't shove. Wondering too if shortening your strap would help - short or even long term. The higher you sling the bass the straighter your wrist. Keep the cast - stick it on top of your bass amp so you can scowl at it in a bad moment and say 'you'll never be master of me'.
I will try my best, I know I need to give it time but I am not very patient with anything, good idea about strap height too I had not really given stuff like that a thought
 3. QUICK UPDATE- cast will be coming off on monday afternoon as long as the xray shows everything is ok, I can tell its going to really fecking hurt to move it for the first time! Long term I still dont know, I cant straighten my fingers fully except for my pinky which I presumed would just come back, but, I am fairly certain the metal plate is situated behind where the tendons are (where you would slit your wrists ) and this may then be permanent? That might not affect my playing anyway so I am not too bothered...yet. If it turns out too hard to play I think I could play upright easier in the long run and this may be an option, sell all my basses and buy a nice 5 string NS design, would pub rock or indie covers work on upright I dont know, I will have to see.
 4.
More details please!
http://basschat.co.uk/topic/192248-which-idiot-has-broken-his-left-wrist/page__hl__broken%20wrist I have not updated it for a while so will do shortly
 5. The Fender 5s I have tried were built well enough its just the actual design of them, I am not the first person to describe them as 4 plus a B and I can see where that comes from. Once the gas comes for something you either have to hope it passes or buy the item and see what happens, I dont have the patience to research properly so end up buying on a whim!
 6. I must point out I am sat here with a broken arm that was caused by electrocution! +1 on the static being a quick snap of a shock where as the bad earth will usually make you have a tingly lip thing or your hairs prick up if you rub you arm over it, its quite nice sometimes but I would not suggest it.
 7.
I'd hardly call an RBX775 a substandard instrument! How would you know anyway? You've never played one! I would much rather own a 775 (even a 375) than a Jazz 5. Better built, lighter, more frets, more flexible pre-amp and, IMO, better necks. You're considering buying a new Fender 5 string Jazz without ever having played one and despite Fender 5 strings being amongst the poorest in mass production these days. I don't know anyone that owns one, and I know plenty of bassists that use 5ers. Just get out there and try as many as possible! Even if you don't want something "substandard", for your budget, you could get a second hand Warwick, Roscoe (if you're lucky), Sadowsky Tokyo, Goodfellow or Shuker. All much much better in my opinion. I'm just saying, diving in at the deep end doesn't always end well. Worst case scenario, you buy a new Fender 5 string and you end up hating it/not using it and end up losing £500 off it. At least maybe try a second hand Fender first? Truckstop
I agree on all counts
 8.
I don't have a massive budget. I am hoping to return to work by april/may time, then work until september. Most of the money i get shall be spent on musical goodies to make up for lost time and earnings I don't want to faff about too much with below par second hand instruments because it's a real heartache, and nearly put me off bass altogether at one point! Yamaha is a no go for bass or guitar beyond a budget option IMO.
The Nathan East Yamaha is probably the best bass I have ever played build quality wise, I find the problem with Yamaha is people presume cheap as the models are confusing, £2.5K isnt really a budget bass!
 9. Everything here has to be MOT'd after 3 years but not if the car is pre 1960
 10. Clues in the MOT exempt (not too new to need one)
 11.
Dunno haha. I don't collect much apart from gear, and I spend the rest on clothes. I don't have a car now (and won't until I live outside the city centre) so I'm just careful with money and buy ace stuff. My girlfriend encourages it.
It was tongue in cheek really but I get your point, my car is worth less than most of my basses and is free to tax and MOT exempt
 12.
Here's the thing, i still can't decide whether i like the rays or not. There's something about it... can't put my finger on it. i'll have to dive into ray land at some point again.
I am biased like Musicman20 but I do like other stuff so the same approach can be had with the Fender if you can find a used one, Im just not sure about them. All the stuff Chris b mentioned is worth a look
 13. Why do need all them musicman basses Gareth?
 14. I agree with Chris, a second hand Ray 5 will possibly keep you happy for years and you can sell it for what you paid if you hunt wisely (or lose lots of money if you buy new like I did although I am not selling so its no biggie).
 15. Obviously the temperature of the venue and the type of underpants you wear will alter the figures but I am having a room built to test this at the moment
 16.
Hi all. I dont want to be rude but please read my opening comments to this thread. "This is a feeler to sell my Kingbass Artist (to help finance purchase of another one)" I Iove this bass. I am only going to sell it to buy another Status bass so please don't offer me trades. I need the ££££. Unless you have a 20 something wife (joke).
20 something stone maybe (she is not really just in case she sees this!) If a bank in Rugby gets done in the next few hours you are going to have your collar felt Marcus
 17.
Who do you think you are Pete? Some sort of expert?
I will put up some graphs later
 18. Loved my old TNT! Sounded great with a Stingray everytime, only sold because the guitarist at the time bought the enevitable Marshall stack
 19.
If I'm looking on ebay and it's BIN with offers, I'll ALWAYS offer half the asking price.
Its you is it!
 20. I also like this http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Clover_Apeiron_H.5.html As the 5 feels totally different to a 4 you soon adapt to the neck profile and width, find one that feels like you could get the hang of and your brain will adapt to it. The thing many people find with the Fender 5s and the reason they are no where near as popular as their share percentage wise in the main stream as their 4s is that B string that feels like it is part of another bass, they dont flow over all 5 strings somehow, almost like the spacing for the B is further away than the rest of the strings are to each other, strangely this affects the more expensive ones more IME, I played a nice Sqier P5 a while ago active with a J pickup too, Nice
 21. You are never going to lose on that little baby, looks good too. Could be a collectable rig one day, you know how these things are with nostalgia and many of us either having similar when new or sometimes more importantly wishing they could of then but can afford as a toy later in life. Look after it I say
