1. Most towns have a fasteners, if you know what you need and can go to the counter you should be able to get everything you could ever imagine normally for pence too! Have a Google for your area , always nice to be able to try the screws in the countersunk holes etc too.
2.
Friend of mine was invited onto this years show. He knew exactly how far he was getting.
Why have none of these people gone to the press? Did he go on the show anyway?
3. In simple terms most amps have a pre amp to amplify the tiny voltage the guitars pickup creates, that amplified signal goes to the eq section of the amps controls but is still only a smallish voltage, too small to power a decent speaker at least so it then goes to the power amp usually controlled by the master volume knob. So you could have a solid state pre amp and power amp (solid state) a valve pre amp and valve power amp (all valve) Or a combination of the two usually valve pre amp and solid state power amp. Just to confuse you my ShuttleMax 9.2 has both a solid-state pre amp and eq and a valve powered eq which can be selected on their own or mixed together, that signal then goes to a 900 watt solid state (class D) power amp. It's one of the most flexible all in one amps ever made not just a solid-state pre amp with a valve that can be added in for effect like most amps. As the amplifier sections are seperate you can use the same preamp and eq controls with any size power amp hence all the versions of the same amp but bigger output models. The main reason valve pre amps exist is taste, a valve can give a more natural and sometimes fuller sound, it can also be easily overdriven to create just the right ammount of distortion at the lower volume before going to the power amp so you can have a bit of dirt even at practice volumes. Does that help?
4.
Seems to have disappeared from the website... Sold already?
5. I think if it's active in reality you can dial in or out the minor difference it makes, if it's a passive bass its maybe more of an issue.
6. Another good quality B string on a 34 scale bass, no need for all that wonky fret rubbish
7. You have done the right thing by not having one their cabs though
8.
I've got an Oly White Fender P5 and I just love it! Build quality seems as good as any other Fender I've tried. Although in no way exotic I just find it sits in the mix, be it live or recorded, like no other bass I've owned. I haven't changed the strings in a year and it still records great, whereas my Stingray 5 sounds dull after just a few weeks. I think the P5 is criminally underrated!
So your finding a passive P with year old strings to be more lively than a ray with strings a few weeks old? You do know it needs a 9v battery in the back of it? I could be interested in trying one of these P5's you know and in that colour combo.......hmmm......gas.......
9.
Guitar loudspeakers are a different animal. And just to clarify, I'm not saying that drivers don't 'break in'; I'm suggesting that break-in is not audible in the context of a speaker system.
You could 100% hear it on our 15" pa speaker, sounded like someone had forced a lump of foam behind the grill or as the eBay comment you laughed at 'stiff', I agree. Bit like having an ashdown amp my point is more that you may as well just get on with gigging it, I would have no trouble dialling it out with the 900 watt Shuttle Max 9.2
10. I struggle more with a jazz width nut, and don't like a c profile neck either.
11.
If it has higher sensitivity than another tweeter it will be more revealing of amp noise. You can compensate for that with the LPad, assuming it has one. Or is that something else that G-K left out?
I'm familiar with the ebs hiss which people complain about which is just as you say because they are super sensitive but can be dialed back, in this case I presume it's not going to be the overly high quality tweeter causing the issue in that way?
12. That's a cracker and a bargain!
13.
Tweeters don't buzz. Amps do, and when they do tweeters will reveal it.
I think other people have had this issue with this cab, some people have mentioned it in recent threads along with the overall build quality
14. There's no doubt that they free up and sound better over time, I have seen it with a repaired EV pa cab we had in the last band. Foh sounded lifeless on the new cab side, swapped the cables round just in case it was a faulty repair or anything and twas still that side that had less clarity which is exactly what they told us at EV as it would need to be run in. What did we do? More gigs! By the 3rd gig both sides gave a perfect match even after trying various little tests of swapping things round just to be certain. Just use it
15.
I think overcoming those wretched devices makes you and I among the most dedicated bass players on the planet.
Put me off anything Gibson esque ever since! Ha
16.
Both, really. I was rhythm, singer played bass and we had an incredible lead guitarist in my school band. Singer wanted to sing only, didn't take much encouragement for me to play his (totally dreadful) Avon EB0 bass. Dropped using pick a few years later. Rarely play guitar now, see the guitar as a related but completely different instrument. Never looked back. I love the role of the bass player and playing bass and feel fully a bass citizen.
It was a borrowed Avon for me too, awful just like the real versions!
17.
I like the look of em too. All the demos I've heard of the GB stuff makes it look right up my street.
I have three amps and 2 cabs from them now, I'm very happy.
I think you are sold on the EAD 212....
they do look very good I think I could live with ead too
18. I'm a failed guitarist although I was always drawn to the bass so maybe my heart just wasn't in it as much?
19. Streamliner or shuttle will sing with any genz cab I have just bought a 9.2Max head and can't wait to try it out!
20. T.I.M
21. Well I dont own an epoxy coated pre amp version but I do have one with tantalum caps and one with electrolytic caps which is the same preamp that carried on right through the 2 band Ernie ball basses, even now it's the same circuit but on a green pcb. The trouble is I'd say there are two factors at play on my 79 that make more difference, the heavier body 79 about 1kg more as my 82 is really light and the 79 is also string through. The 79 is really big sounding with the pickups set about the same height and both on ebmm 40-100 . Overall they all appear to have something extra over an ebmm 2 band especially in the thump region
22. Genz neox 2x12T and if your feeling really flush I think they now do one in their uber range too I'm not sure about the mid driver idea, good 12's and an adjustable tweeter cover a lot of ground imo and probably why's many people are going for 12's
23. Everytime I have had new gear it's been gigged the same night, needs must as the genz cab I bought was to replace the faulty ashdown rig I had, a wedding gig that evening meant it went straight into service. It's never been pushed beyond it's limits anyway.
24. Bass direct My ray5 was from pmt Birmingham and they were ok although the service at guitar guitar was better, just a shame they had no ray 5s in stock.
25. Making some really nice basses right now imo , cool
