1. I dont get it, if its a cover its a cover even if its a cover of someone elses cover. If your trying to get more recognition than being in a covers band then you need to write your own songs or have someone write them just for you. I have done both with varying degrees of success
2. It also gives you a huge sound even if it's going to a DI rather than having a great sound on stage only to find the sound man struggled to give you any thump, I have never been asked to reduce the amount of bass boost either.
3. And people still ask me why I have a single 4ohm 600watt rated cab simples as that annoying rat thing says.........
4. Who else wished they had this bass, a tuner, a box of tools and a set of new strings in front of them right now?
5. Well the room is upstairs with a few sets of doors closed behind us, we will all be driving there so at best it will be a round each every four weeks if we take it in turns as its a four piece, we struggle to get friends to turn up at the best of times! I was meant to practice for a wedding dep gig on Monday, it's not open on Monday's and we can have free soft drinks but they had fitted a concetina grill to stop the new people that are renting a room above from getting in the pub area, they forgot to give us a key so it turned into us staring at the stage through a grill then going home again
6. Where are you?
7. That's me screwed then!
8. Don't let Waynepunkdude offer you £5 for it
9. Should be OK shouldn't it that Spector? I can see you are a man of similar Warwick taste lowdowner!
10. I never had Spectors down as cheap? trade it for a Squier Jazz bass on here and be done with ya!
11.
So if you want to see/hear thin lizzy - how you gonna do it bearing in mind that phil is no longer with us??? You go and see limehouse lizzy - so good that they are endorsed by phil's mum
I have no problem with that but I still dont want to see a tribute for an act still touring really.
12.
Maybe. I've never heard your 2x12, but I don't doubt that it's loud. Fact is, a good 2x10 isn't quiet. I've used Trace Elliot 4x10s that are a lot quieter than my 2x10. The Amp is probably a factor there as well. But it would be a factor in any set up.
Its not that mine is loud (although it is and gets good reviews even by our resident guru's) it just that a 2x12 is more akin to a 4x10 so it would be a better contest against a Markbass 4x10 than a 2x10, I would not expect my 2x12 to match 2 2x12's stacked up for example. From the OP I would say the options are; 2 2x10's 1 2x12 2 1x12's
13. With respect my 2x12T would 100% kill it
14. Nice review! and nice bass! I have a slab body on my pre EB and after years of playing a normal EBMM Ray at first it was a bit strange, 2 gigs and a few practices in and I never notice it, its not sharp like a Ricky edge either. If your new to Rays in general your in for a treat IMO as you will soon discover more about all this "Its all in the fingers" you hear about all the time, fact is its true! You will soon manage to get most of the tones you are able to from the Warwicks (Styles maybe a better word I'm not sure but you get my drift) just by playing differently rather than dialling them in with the EQ. I love my Jazz bass but it is so easy to rely on choosing front or back pickup rather than playing in a certain way and just cutting/boosting the highs to get where you want to go. Also the long term Ray players around here have a favourite method of EQing on the 2 band Rays, Bass on full then add treble to taste almost like your using the tone pot on a P bass, trust me its the only way I now have ClassicRay5 gas even more after your review!
15.
Might be OT but this the only thread I see fit without making a new one to ask something... I have a stingray myself, but I'm wondering how much do they cost 2nd hand or 3rd or whatever now? Realistic price? £700-800 probably? Just basing on what I've seen here.
I'd go with these as a rule of thumb; Bottom about £650 if its a bit shabby, no case or just an absolute steal off ebay at 3 am (they are out there) Tops £850 tidy with case and a tasty unusual colour maybe. Unless its a pre EB £1150 dog rough-£2100 mint 1987ish-1993ish £700 dog rough-£1300 mint
16.
satiated my Ray GAS with this: 1989, refinished body and fretless board replaced. plays like a dream and is punchy as f**k! love it need it to grow another string now LOL!!
Nice! shame about the B string as you say, then Ray 5's dont look as good as 4's unless you have a ClassicRay which cost loads......
17.
I agree with the 2x12 theories as above. Ideal compromise. Though if you like Ampeg, their PF-410HLF weighs 70lbs - unless that`s still pushing it a bit far.
Still big
A 2x10 will be in a smaller cab than the 4x10 & also has less drivers, so it's probably not going to be as loud straight in front of it. However, a vertical standing 2x10 will have a far better excursion than the 4x10 meaning it will have a more consistent sound when you move away from the front of it. 2x12 would be a good option also.
Still quiet 2X12 Wins again
18. I went to see one of our own BC members play in an Elvis tribute, I dont like Elvis but it was awesome and the crowd was bigger than most that a lot of us here play to and man were they loving it! If you think Elvis fans wont like an Elvis tribute you have some waking up to do
19.
A 2x12 is probably a better solution, its smaller than a 4x10, most are lighter - especially the Neo ones. And there's a whole heap of reasons why they are almost as good (if not as good) as a 4x10 in terms of output, better in terms of dispersion. I changed from a heavy 4x10 to a very light 2x12 and my back, my car and my ears couldn't be happier!
Beat me to it while I was typing!
20. Two 2x10s would be ok but I would struggle with just one for bigger gigs and I'm not that loud or bothered about my on stage sound if there is a pa doing the work. Happy medium is a 2x12 for a single cab solution Genz Neox 212T is as they say FTW (I also use a Nissan Micra )
21. How can you prove what lines you did or did not write though? I have done studio stuff for the guy I play the live shows with, I alter them here and there but they are his songs really, how could either of us prove what bits I came up with and to what extent that gives to the overall song? Unless we agreed something in writing early on or you had copies pre dating their version (not possible in this case as they are not my songs) I cant see how I could get my hands on a cut of any of it?
22. I have some serious white Ray gas lately
23. Well sold and well bought, I'd be very happy to own that bass, great spec and great colour. I'm jelous, can you tell?
24. Like.
