1.
I agree with the 2x12 theories as above. Ideal compromise. Though if you like Ampeg, their PF-410HLF weighs 70lbs - unless that`s still pushing it a bit far.
Still big
A 2x10 will be in a smaller cab than the 4x10 & also has less drivers, so it's probably not going to be as loud straight in front of it. However, a vertical standing 2x10 will have a far better excursion than the 4x10 meaning it will have a more consistent sound when you move away from the front of it. 2x12 would be a good option also. 2. I went to see one of our own BC members play in an Elvis tribute, I dont like Elvis but it was awesome and the crowd was bigger than most that a lot of us here play to and man were they loving it! If you think Elvis fans wont like an Elvis tribute you have some waking up to do
3.
A 2x12 is probably a better solution, its smaller than a 4x10, most are lighter - especially the Neo ones. And there's a whole heap of reasons why they are almost as good (if not as good) as a 4x10 in terms of output, better in terms of dispersion. I changed from a heavy 4x10 to a very light 2x12 and my back, my car and my ears couldn't be happier!
Beat me to it while I was typing!
4. Two 2x10s would be ok but I would struggle with just one for bigger gigs and I'm not that loud or bothered about my on stage sound if there is a pa doing the work. Happy medium is a 2x12 for a single cab solution Genz Neox 212T is as they say FTW (I also use a Nissan Micra )
5. How can you prove what lines you did or did not write though? I have done studio stuff for the guy I play the live shows with, I alter them here and there but they are his songs really, how could either of us prove what bits I came up with and to what extent that gives to the overall song? Unless we agreed something in writing early on or you had copies pre dating their version (not possible in this case as they are not my songs) I cant see how I could get my hands on a cut of any of it?
6. I have some serious white Ray gas lately
7. Well sold and well bought, I'd be very happy to own that bass, great spec and great colour. I'm jelous, can you tell?
8. Like.
9. It's very good, I should play on it more often. I'm pretty good at note recognition now so tend to do the one where you play the correct note from the staff in the corner, my fret knowledge could be better even after all these years.
10.
Sounds like a good deal considering the cost of rehearsal studios! Playing gigs there regularly will get you a following too so you might get more workout of it!
Hopefully as we are all fairly local too, even just hearing us practice each week could bag a party booking or something.
11.
Is it not a bit tricky playing bass when you're covered in KY jelly?
Not if practice it often enough
12. Science is boring though, I prefer Jpj's method
13.
Those of you blaming the smoking ban: Is it a reduction in the number of punters coming to the pub in the first place, or is it that people are going out for a smoke while you are on stage playing? If it's the former, I suppose there's not a lot you can do except stick it out until the economic situation improves and smoking becomes less of a social activity. If it's the later then really you need to be asking yourself why is your band less compelling to your potential audience than standing outside in the cold and wet in order to feed their addiction?
It's not really like that, the smokers are happy to stand outside, have a drink, have a smoke, have a natter and hear the music all at the same time. It does not matter how good you are they can't come in and do all of those things at once. We have all been told after the gig how good we were and that everyone outside was loving it, are you booked in again etc. winter will help send them back inside but that might be back into their own homes? Pub covers bands are just human jukeboxes, it's easier to get people to watch your originals set where they smoke between bands if they have come to see you specifically.
14. I was gigging regularly maybe twice a week with two different styles of band when the smoking ban came in and the demise was almost instant IMO, never really recovered
15.
Seems like a brilliant deal. Refreshments on tap too!!
We do have to pay unfortunately although I have a practice on Monday for a wedding dep gig, we use an empty pub where we are allowed to lubricate ourselves
16.
So that's your NYE gigs sorted then
Maybe
17. Give it another ten years and everyone will want one, I already do
18. I cant really see the point of tribute acts for artists still out there performing?
19. Sounds like a bunch of arse then mate
20. Bargain I would say!
21. I just popped into town and there was a Robbie Williams take off doing his swing band thing, very odd really.
22. Thats the best era of Ray IMO, 6 bolt neck, wheel of fortune, muted bridge, figured neck and the contoured body. You cant get that combination any other way
23. The nicest Jazz type bass I have played out of all the fancy ones and I have tried quite a few!
24. Only another drummer but they would need a lift to and from the venue, then forget something like the crowbar anyway!
25.
If you don't know the measurement method/conditions then yes, they mean nothing.
And even if you do they might just double them
