1. In the same way Jose is pleased he lives miles from me, its a good thing you are all the way up there! I have gas for a Big Al 5, a Classic Ray 5 and a Shuttle max 9.2 two of which I know you have Bass Direct has a nice Classic 5 on offer that I would take if I could get it past the other half but I cant get the figures to stack up right now Does anywhere have big Als on the hook to try?
2. I am trying to find a way of taking the Classic Ray 5 off him that he has on offer......take it away scheme is now only for up to 25 year olds
3. http://www.projectmusic.net/music-man-big-al-5-made-for-you-vintage-sunburst-9077-p.asp This with a RW board then?
4. I have been googling but cant find much, I just keep watching Ed Friedland's review which is not helping me much! Who stocks them, are there any in the UK what colour and pickup config would you look out for? I'm thinking totally different to my Rays so, SSS and rosewood board for starters anyway and I quite like the vintage burst against the ultra modern styling. Gassing for no reason at all
5. looking at mine the stripe might be just out of shot.....
6. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Original-1979-Music-Man-Sting-Ray-Electric-Bass-Black-Pre-Ernie-Ball-/300768621635?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item460734f443 No fret markers obviously and the nut just looks all kinds of wrong to me? Is that an ebony board? has it got a skunk stripe, do the fretless ones have a skunk stripe? Hhhmm......
7. I still dont see why people begrudge spending a fraction of the cost of something to go and fetch it? Glasgow to Bassdirect in my wifes car would cost me £78 (I just google mapped it to check) If I was spending £1500-2000 (or £3500 on a bass as somone was the other day) I would just see it as an adventure, that £78 is going to look a bargain compared to what you are going to lose when it comes to selling the wrong amp after 6 months and doing the whole process all over again! That's worst case scenario, there must be somewhere nearer and a train may be even cheaper if you then had the stuff delivered to your home a few days later.
8.
No it isn't. It's a 24 bar phrase not 12.
Blimey Paul I have not seen you around for ages, are you well?
This made me chuckle. I have had smilar experiences at jam nights. I once dared deviate from a walking bass line in some nameless ancient 12 bar......... Sadly, my reaction got me barred from the establishment
My old regular jam night had a Clapton rip off guy who was very good but the chilling glares you would get should you decide to play it faster, funkier, slower or rockier than the live at somewhere or other DVD he had learnt it all from made it too much of a chore for me, the harp player stormed off the stage unplugging all his gear during the performance the last time he was there because this claptophile shook his head at him!
9. You would need some kind of line in or fx loop on the carlsbro which I presume it has not got? A lot of the line outs/ phones out on smaller amps are emulated rather than a proper signal, try listening with headphones I bet it sounds weird. If you put a bass through my Marshall guitar amp on the gain channel and wear phones it produces the exact Cliff Burton bass solo sound!
10. I'm gassing for a new 9.2 max head , I daren't even go to try one out!
11. Look at you pair with your P bass projects and matching EBMM sterlings, get a room
12. Yep just keep doing what are doing now sounds like you already have it nailed and plus one on not smiling even if you have flashing LEDs on your neck the blank expression must remain
13. I think the theme is those songs that never end like Valerie, if someone plays the first note it all starts again!
14.
Its a jam...you jam it..
I am familiar with the concept, I am not asking how it started. I am just curious of other peoples examples of songs like Gafbass says he learnt without ever hearing the original. I did the same with loads of old blues songs, sometimes they pop up on something like Heartbeat but it takes ages for it to click. (yes I watch Heartbeat, I like old cars alright )
15.
Smoke on the Water is another one. I feel people looking at me, wondering why I am not playing. I feel terrible when playing such a cliché, so I don't need that extra bit of humiliation!

mustang sally. fecking hate this tune and I'm a soul kind of bloke. rubbish. it's 12 bar blues. yawns.
See I dont know the 'proper' version very well of either of those so I would be guilty as charged of ruining both of them at a jam.
16. Whenever I play these two songs I get funny looks off the rest off the assembled players as if I dont know the song, I am merely waiting for the bass line to start! Most jam night versions start with everyone playing the guitar part and so it continues for about 45 mins the bass only plays the chorus parts and the bit that goes wrong obviously. And this one where the bass just thumps along for the first 16 bars or so until it picks up yet most covers start at full tilt with no where to go from there. What others are there that get other people's goats? I must be guilty of doing similar things to other songs, I am not saying I am a hero just sayin'. What I think I am getting at is some versions of songs are more familiar to me played like this than the original record now. In a similar way I have played the same songs with a couple of bands that many times that our way sounds right and the record sounds wrong. TBF our live version of Ruby by the Kaiser Chiefs was better than theirs but that was not hard
17. Jump on a train to Warwick, go and see uncle Mark at Bass Direct
18. Im a slag for matching gear so I would do neither and buy a whole Genz Rig instead
19. Sounds a little bit weak to me compared to a real one, the treble would take your head off and the bass boosted fully would blow my laptop speakers but it's nothing a John East preamp would not sort out so anyone wanting a narrow nut Ray could get a bargain as the rest of it looks good, 6 bolt neck, wheel of fortune etc. On one hand you could say a £400 bass should not need a new pre amp on the other what did I get extra for another £1500 on my Ray5 other than a B string?
20.
What is the difference between the 9.0 and the 9.2?
About £300? Badum tish! The new version has the 3dpm taken from the Streamliner amps, no idea if it makes any difference?
