1.
The only reason I have a Badass II on my Jap Jazz, is because the BBOT on it had action adjustment screws that use to unwind due to the vibrations of the strings, oh and because the saddles use to move around the base plate when playing and because the string spacing could be set spot on with a Badass and because the action can be set really low on a Badass with plenty of behind the saddle string break. Apart from that, no reason to change it.
All of this =100'000'000 yet people bang on about the tone diference it may or may not make
2.
Me to, My first MM was a nice teal/maple Sterling 4. not everyone likes that coulour though.
Those people are wrong
3.
I seem to remember seeing this clip in some other context on Basschat, but I watched it again recently and was struck by what a great example of what is to me the archetypal Stingray sound . The full-bore attack of this bass allied to the superb skills of the guy who's playing it.makes every note punch through the mix on this performance.:
If that does not give you Stingray gas then you have no soul
4. It snowed the day I bought my blue SR5 which stopped me going to bass direct, it could easily of been one of those or a clover maybe else!
5. Just to contradict myself European and tasty, Mayones Jabba 5 Classic
6. I appreciate the quality but overall they bore me, ok rays are not that exciting but mine are not trying to copy anything, I put them in the 'another Fender copy' camp
7.
Is that the '76 sunburst one ? If so then you have just taken home what looks to be a rare and very beautiful example of a truly iconic bass. I hope you will posting pics be letting us know how you are getting on with it. Enjoy !
+1 I started a pre EB thread ages so make sure you post them there too.
8.
Bought the pre- eb Ray from Mark at Bass Direct today. One note was all it took. Amazing sound. I'm just gonna play this. Hope the guy trying the cabs got sorted.
I only saw that a couple of days ago! I think you have had a bargain there Do you agree they have some kind of extra magic? People think they are just the same as an EBMM but the only parts that are interchangeable are the tuners, so they only look the same really!
9.
Ah.. So he has 2 right hand and a lefty.. I think ill buy all 3.
The lefties were really rare ones as the logo was written backwards, he had even gone to the trouble of having a matching music room but with all the furniture the opposite way round, clever bloke!
10. Ah read it again 2x15, it's early!
11. A 1000 watts into a single Laney 1x15 then?
12. Sounds fret-ist to me
13.
Was it the left hooker stingray?
Only in two of the adverts the other was identicle but right handed
14. Ta Lozz, I would never say never, if I was recording and had a sound in my head then I'm happy to thump a P through an Ampeg or a Ricky through an emulator or whatever does the job but a Ray through a solid state amp is where I am happiest just like I was 10 years ago with my SR4 and TNT
15. I f***ing love Teal! My first Ray was a Teal SR4 with a maple board 10 years ago, as I only really play my fives these days it got swapped on here for the black SR5 which is a great bass and my go to for everything. I'd love an early Teal SR5
16. Looked on there twice, found the same stingray advertised about 3 times with different details, never been back
17. I can't tell the difference between fuzz, grit, warmth call it what you will, I have played through almost every make of amp over the years but the ones I have liked the most have been solid state pre and power amp equipped. I'm not saying they are better and I'm sure the quest for an Ampeg in a shoe box will continue without me but for me personally I'm not a fan of valves.
18. I always liked that Peavey amp, I only changed it to keep up with a guitarists 4x12 Marshall JCM rig, I had an Ashdown for years and never really loved it. Turns out that Peavey was the sound I liked all along. Stingrays have quite a bit of inbuilt grit and sizzle too so maybe I don't need any more especially from the preamp dept?
19. Yes, and it was awful
20. What difference did the extra frets make?
21. So I have owned a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 for years now, I later aquired a Shuttle 3.0 for home practice (has no fan) and as a backup for wedding gigs and stuff. Its got plenty of poke through my NEOX 2x12T as it puts out the full 300 watts, that said I would never use it as my main head for bigger gigs, why would you when you have the 600 watt version? Well it became clearer that fuzzy old valves are not for me and the Genz 6.0 is already one of the cleanest valve pre amp heads anyway, too clean for many but the all FET Genz 3.0 sounds great to my ears, really tight and punchy just how I remember my good old Peavey TNT combo back in the day. After declaring similar in another thread some time ago regarding the ShuttleMax heads as they have both channels but with 600/900 watts Musicman20 made a suggestion of putting the 3.0 through the 6.0 via the FX loop and I kept forgetting to try it....until now! Fecking 'ell Its either going to be my new default rig and I will have to get a ratchet strap to hold it all together or its given me enormous gas for a Shuttle Max 9.2 head!!!! So as for valves and TC's with this and that knobs, Orange OBT heads, Ampeg PF's and Sansamps etc I'm out as they say, I am not a valve man where bass amps are concerned.
22. Keep it a secret, if they rocket in value they will cost more than a MIM P bass
