Why fans? Why not proper passive cooling?
stingrayPete1977 replied to fretmeister's topic in Amps and Cabs
One of things I like about my Genz 3.0 is the lack of fan, never gets hot either. The 6.0 is a bit annoying for quiet practice with its whir. -
Remember to get a non playing member of public in so they can tell everybody that they can't hear any difference.
By non playing member of the public you mean that guy in the Status Quo T shirt that is at every gig that looks for your shocked expression when he reveals that his mate's mate at work has a real Gibson Jazz bass worth £1000? (I think it would be worth more if it existed!).

stingrayPete1977 replied to Novak's topic in Bass Guitars
Combine all the advice but get a Bartloni equipped Modulus! -
And we wonder why us bass players get labeled as geeks!

No idea, Did about 40 with my originals band from the late 90's until 2004 but also played in 2 function type bands that played most weekends (one or the other sometimes both) for a number of years over a period from about 2003-2011 so whats that? I'd say I would fall into the popular more than 500 but less than a 1000 group. Can we count jam nights, played about 6 songs every tuesday* for about 5 years thats another 250 on top. *The same 6 songs obviously and ending with Mustang Sally naturally.

I would try to not limit myself to 35" scale, If its nice and sounds good it is, I would have either quite happily

You need to find that mute assembly mate it will knock it for a couple of hundred quid IMO, you can get a new one for £25 including the pads but the thumb turns are much smaller, better than nothing if you dont find it though

As Steve says its all about the pics even that hang tag alone could be £50+ on ebay! My rule of thumb is; Battered with no case and a few slight modifications, unless the modifications are severe or parts missing £1200 minimum. Nice condition with a few dings and a bit of mojo but all standard with some kind of vintage style case £1400-1700. Very tidy all original with case £1700-1900. Very tidy all original, teardrop MM case, 70's with epoxy preamp and strung thru etc £1900+ 1976 with teardrop case in mint condition will crack the £3k if one ever comes on the market, never seen it happen yet, they have always had some kind of issue. Lets see some pics, by mutes missing do you meen just the pads or have the actually spring plates and thumb turns been took off and lost?

Dammit! Alternate tunings are a pain in my butt.
stingrayPete1977 replied to Evil Undead's topic in General Discussion
Low B on a 5 is a low as would go anything less just sounds terrible to me I can just about remember where the notes are now once you start throwing DADGAD and all that stuff at me I would be in a right mess -
Trying to individualise something always has a possibility of going wrong, someone tries someone elses custom bass and says "I love that I want one exactly the same!", then when they order it they think well I dont want to copy so and so 100% if I'm making a one off it needs to reflect me etc etc, thats where the trouble starts, they already loved the pickups and preamp arrangement yet they are often the first to get changed on the order from to something they have never heard or at least never heard in the same type of bass maybe, the plain top that they said made it really subtle and useable for any gig even ones where most people would demand some kind of standard Fender now gets the chop for a bowling ball burl walnut with mother of pearl yin yangs all over it! etc etc you get the idea

I would take all of this but with a pair of the 12's instead of the 4x10 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTh69K9ezaU
Maybe our ears are so used to the 8x10 tone that we think it's a classic, but cheap/quick design or not, it sounds fantastic. Maybe they just got lucky. I can think of plenty of examples in the art and design world where they got it right first time.
The thing is that they were not right as such but we love them for it, I love the original Mini (I have had 4) and its held up as one of these design icons yet its full of flaws, it's 90% perfect just like an 8x10 maybe? Once someone takes all the time money and effort to remove the flaws no one else likes it! Try selling a 60's Mini that has had the seam strips welded and ground off (those ribs that run up the four corners for anyone who does not know them) knocks the value massively, If you develop an 8x10 and remove any technical flaws that people have grown used to people will slate it even though technically its better in every way, unfortunately no amount of cad design or understanding of the fact and figures can calculate for that and to make it worse every person is different too!

I still think that little mic does much

Sorry yes I'm getting confused with my own invention I mentioned in another thread, the 18.2! Which although fictional has two amps like the 12.0! I have also invented a triple decker version that has the Streamliner EQ as well, 3 power amps naturally, the 'Shuttle Liner 27.0' Are you sure you can't run one side as FET and one as valve on the 12.0?

I will go with that
