What's wrong with a bow and arrow?
-
I dont get why they dont work with certain heads? I have more than one head and more than one cab, they are all interchangeable.
The COMBINATION of your playing, your bass, the amp and the cab. And the strings come to that. That's why every time you email me asking if you can have a Compact for cheap, I email you back asking a whole bunch of questions like this: "What amp do you use? What cab(s) do you currently use? What do/don't you like about them? What music do you usually play? What kind of bass sounds are you into (links to youtube etc clips helpful)? What bass(es) do you play? What strings do you use and how new/old do you like them? What kind of gigs do you usually play?" It is all interactive! Last year someone persuaded me to sell them a Compact even though I said it was the wrong choice - and it came back. Nowadays people get the cab (or one of the cabs) that I say will suit or they don't get anything. There's no way I'd have suggested you gig with an SVT3 and a Compact doing the music you were doing back then, no way!
That post has put me off your cabs without even hearing one, I'm not being an arse but my choice of cab (s) is largely based on me playing a bit of rock one night with a wedding band dep gig the next and maybe a bit of reggae a few days later, I dont like 4x10's for the record or even 2 2x10's (personal taste nothing more) but I know a good 4x10 or 2x12 with an adjustable tweeter will cover all those gigs I have metioned, even my little Genz 3.0 can run a decent 4x10, the only thing I would expect to need a certain cab for is dubstep which I dont play (yet)

I said the same about the video we did, there are better songs on the old album. I enjoyed it all the same, I'm going to have another watch! -
It's just marketing isn't it? The use of well-known people to endorse a product in return for something is as old as the hills - even Michael Parkinson sells OAP insurance (or whatever). I can't really see a problem, either way, though like any contractural agreement it's not a good idea to break the terms.
But most of the people involved are not known at all, loads of brands have sold themselves out by giving deals which appear to be not a lot more than being able to add it in your sig on here and a free T-shirt to people no one else has any idea who they are. Giving Flea a bank of GK speaker cabs makes sense as people will recognise the brand being used by Flea so it must be good enough for them, giving me anything is a waste really as no one relates my ability to anyone elses gear and no one knows who I am anyway, It appears to me some brands are doing deals of some sort with people no more or less important than me?
-
Your missing my point, so what if he was a bell end that could not even play, he has sold more Fender basses just by being him than all the endorsers of all the gear on basschat put together. If Fender could go back in time I'm sure they would be happy to send him a dozen.
-
I'm protective of the brand and also want to ensure that the bass players using them are a good citizen and face for the brand.
This is the sort of thing that would put me right off any kind of deal, Sid Vicious was not exactly a good citizen but I would imagine there are a few Fender fans on this site that felt the urge to at least try a P bass after seeing him? I'd rather buy my own gear and behave how I want ta
-
If you look at it from another angle it becomes even more pointless IMO, I am the target audience for these endorsement deals not as an artist but as someone that is meant to be buying the gear because I see other people use it, no offense but I'm not going to go out hunting stuff down because I have seen it in someones sig on BC am I? Unless you are a known player using a known brand I cant see much point other than bragging rights on sites like this really. We all tell each other what gear we like and what we have (look below).

stingrayPete1977 replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in General Discussion
I have noticed its sort of left handed tuning across the strings! You dont have a cheap cello for sale then do you -
Since I have learnt to read a bit I quite fancy playing something different, I dont have a fretless and never played anything with a bow but I understand cello is read from the same clef as bass so once I can get my head around the tuning basically the top 4 strings from a 5 string tuned to c? ADGC I think I could get something going. Anyone else had a go or even a virtuoso? I know this is not Cellochat but to my mind its a bass on its end

Guy Pratt, Daryl Jones and Anthony Jackson are all just lurking in the shadows but I have just let the secret out

Fender 3-bolt neck and micro-tilt adjustment. Evil or genius?
stingrayPete1977 replied to mcnach's topic in Bass Guitars
The 6 bolt is as solid as a rock! Never had to shim one though...... -
Fender 3-bolt neck and micro-tilt adjustment. Evil or genius?
stingrayPete1977 replied to mcnach's topic in Bass Guitars
Most three bolt neck basses I have seen you can move the neck left and right fairly easily with a good tug. Now a 4 bolt with a micro tilt that's a different matter. In truth though a good shim is always going to give a good solid joint compared to having a little pin trying to do the job, using it as a way to gauge the shim you need would make sense. -

You should only be up at 12 o'clock on the master at gig volumes even then I'm often a lot less, back off that preamp gain some more. My clip light flickers a bit but not much, if your using the amps EQ heavily that also affects the pre amp signal.
-
But I already have a 3.0 also so it would make 18.0

I know people complain about not having a specialist shop local but if it were me I'd still rather spend a few quid travelling to try stuff if we are talking £2k plus, most cases we are talking half a tank of fuel £40, in the op's case fair enough it's going to be more like £200 with a night in a travel lodge but is that such a big deal in the context of a £4k Fodera? Most people in the market for the basses mentioned will spend a lot of time and money travelling to see how things are going, one BC member I know must of spent £1000's travelling to GB basses in Brighton and another I know has been to NY to choose his Sadowsky, living somewhere a hundred miles or so away from bass direct in the midlands really is no excuse IMO

If your Ashdown has more top end than the Genz you have put me right off the idea of getting a Streamliner which is good because I cant really afford one! Looks like I'm a Shuttle man through and through.
-
I agree even if it is only the valves the get blown if thats halfway through a gig its not much help! Now If you had a Shuttle 9.0 I could of took that off you to fund another cab but I already have a 6.0

How can they be Marmite when it took you ages to find out you dont like them and that they are so bad? Thats the whole point of the Marmite arguement you either love them or hate it, not love it for ages, buy loads, rave about it then change your mind and tell everyone not to buy it.
