The shop in question was quite large with a decent selection of everything else, not that many basses though.
-
It's that why they are all closing down, retired and just spending all that money they've made? Lol
-
Yeah Birmingham guitar guitar and PMT stock and sell plenty, I know because I've bought a few!
-
It's not truthful, it's a view from twenty years ago. It's not much of a kicking really is it? I haven't even named the City in the title or the shop at all!
-
They've based that whole business model on one bass they had in stock, maybe it was just a rubbish bass?!
-
Probably none.

Popped into a nice music shop in the centre of York, good selection of guitars both electric and acoustic and a selection of bass guitars but not a single five string in a fairly big shop, I asked at the counter whilst paying for the item I bought if five string bass had reached this far north yet only to be told they had one in once but they are too niche, that one didn't sell and got sent back, same goes for fretless. Ok then, odd.

Bass instrument cable straight into amp
stingrayPete1977 replied to Thunderbird's topic in General Discussion
I don't even use an amp these days, bass >DI box>PA. -
I won't be making a habit of it tbh.
-
It's for all those reasons we've decided to spend even more money to at least get decent seats, I'll be so close I'll be able to hear their in ears never mind the PA 😀

Just needs a bit of heroin to get him going again, he'll be fine.

Ultimate in Double Bass pickups for feedback?
stingrayPete1977 replied to TheG's topic in EUB and Double Bass
I tried everything with my bass including foam plugs then finally gave up and fitted a Schaller mag pickup, people said it would just sound like a P Bass, it doesn't. Best thing I ever did and no problem with my shoddy playing. -
Genting Arena was where we saw them last time, they were excellent and it's that best big venue I've ever been too, shame they didn't have that venue on offer.
-
I don't think I've been there before so at least I've not got any preconceptions, being on the front row hopefully will help and we get a 'free' poster, lol. We've declared the tickets as each others Christmas present to each other, neither of us are Christians though.😄

That's what the wife said, she's been a few times and said it's crap for standing, she said we either get good seats or don't go as she'd rather pay more to enjoy it than save money and not.
-
We've gone big, they are our favourite band, John is back and it might be the last time we will see them for all we know, the wife booked ours via a priority booking thing, front row seated in Manchester!

One of my favourite things about in ears is the drive home without the ringing ears from a typical gig with a typical back line.

I am painting the garden fences at the moment, a few panels each night and playing some ZZ to paint to. RIP.

When 5-string basses suddenly make a lot of sense...
stingrayPete1977 replied to mcnach's topic in General Discussion
Well it's all a bit off topic for the thread but basically it comes down to the owner of the property, if you cover it over with screed for example then had kitchen fitters in to fit a new kitchen you'd be responsible for letting them know what's under the screed before they drilled into it. Of course you'd only be liable if you knew they contained asbestos which they might or might not. Paper suit and a mask, damped down with water and double bagged with bags from the local council is all that's required, the council used to take small residential amounts and provide the bags for free but I'm not sure if that's still the case. Funnily enough vinyl floor tiles came up as an example at the last course we did, the dangers and course of action required if any isn't calculated on the individual substance but the condition of it and it's likelihood to become damaged or damaged further and become airborne, the points from high heeled shoes were shown to release fibres from these tiles. They are one of the lowest risk regarding the fibres but score highest from the likelihood of being broken scale, anyone that's dragged a washing machine over them and watched them shatter knows only too well. Something like a factory roof would score high on the nastiness of the product but low on the chances of it being damaged providing everyone follows the asbestos register. A building like a school would keep a record by law and any responsible tradesperson should check the register and sign it before carrying out any work. Good old asbestos, I've already had a few lungs full over the years! After many of these courses what I've learnt is other than something that can be removed and bagged whole, like an airing cupboard door for example or clearly low risk like the floor tiles just don't touch it and get the professionals in. -

Oooh no you're well out of touch here young Douglas! Asbestos in the UK was in use legally until 1999, I've slept through about ten to fifteen asbestos courses I'll have you know. 😷 -

I thought the same but you'll see if you scroll back to the previous page. Asbestos vinyl floor tiles too, lol. -
Most of them will come from Europe even if you buy from a uk seller. Finding a good used one is the best bet but that's not always easy! Check out Gedo, a few of us bass chatters have them and they cover a variety of price points.

Famous songs that were written on a bass guitar?
stingrayPete1977 replied to TJ1's topic in General Discussion
Anything by Royal blood, Motorhead or Primus maybe?
