  1. "do you really need to put all your stuff where the other members of the band need to set up before a gig? We say yes".
  2. Almost all the bands I know that use an ipad grab on their stands are far too busy playing loads of gigs a year to a very high standard earning enough to pay their mortgages etc to care what anyone here thinks. Thankfully I can't sing for toffee with our without a stand so it's not a choice I'll ever need to make.
  3. As a flip to the other thread what's the worst bass you've ever played? I'm not talking "I hate Gibson basses", I'm not thinking because of what style it was, Marcus Miller probably wouldn't want to do his thing on a Fiddle bass but might enjoy it for a few numbers playing a different style. You might be a P bass lover yet still vote for a particularity terrible version you came across. For me you might be surprised to find that it wasn't a Ricky as much as I hate them in general, lol, it was actually the Yamaha (which is a surprise in itself as they are normally excellent even budget ones) Billy Sheehan bass with Billy stood next to me as I played it! Loose pots, dodgy tuners, faulty pickups, less than perfect finish and all this on the Yamaha stand with the Yamaha rep offering it out to try, I'm sure there must have been a set of Allen keys at the show at least. Thankfully if I recall rightly Nigel Clusterflip came over and deafened everyone within a mile radius and I managed to give it back without passing comment. What was your anti climax?
  4. I really enjoyed a trans green Celinder Jazz a few years ago belonging to a mate and member here (Birdy), if it hadn't have been a four string I'd have purchased it off him when he inevitably sold it on, which he did. Almost certainly belongs to someone else on here now.
  5. My Fender USA Jazz V has two rods either side of the truss rod, all I know is the later versions like mine (2013) have a much better B string than the older ones with five in a row tuners.
  6. No need to be respectful, you're welcome to your opinion. My personal experience from local bands that comment on stands has always come from bands that have been playing the same set for years on end, there's not that many words in Freebird anyway, lol.
  7. Certainly yes I agree, as I said earlier I think most of the people (musicians) that have an issue with music stands are those that haven't got anything in their set dating from 1985 onwards.
  8. Years ago most pub bands were out gigging every weekend, as gigs are becoming fewer are far between maybe remembering all the words is becoming harder?
  9. I think guitar leads have thicker cores than my Ashdown combo had inside, lol. I still say you can't shield a speaker lead in a way that can just be sold off the shelf to work with an existing conventional amp.
  10. I caught a bit of it last night, that Snow Patrol track was an album track at best awful.
  11. That would be no different to using an instrument cable, the positive to the speaker would get one core and the negative /ground would get the same wire core plus the braid creating the same imbalance as a guitar lead.
  12. You don't wear glasses, they'd never let you in their band.
  13. About ten miles each way, I'll be setting off for todays in a few minutes.
  14. If it's in the right key and tempo you'll be fine. Good luck.
  15. And what are you draining it to? A phono speaker plug has two connections.
  16. How would you physically do it? , you can't. You'd have to use a TRS jack and plug on both the equipment and the lead.
  17. How can you shield a speaker cable? A phono 1/4 jack and socket has two connections, if you connect the shield to either of the speaker conductors it isn't shielding anything!
  18. I've got a shoe box full of tickets kept as souvenirs, I'd rather have that than a long lost email folder.
  19. For "numerous industry contacts" see the 'playing for nowt' thread.
  20. You've obviously not seen my band then!
  21. Every time this comes up the people that say it's criminal are normally those in bands playing the same 30 songs they were playing 30 years ago yet still mess up the middle eight in 'alright now'.
  22. Maybe you're just not very good?
  23. I bet he played 'wherever I lay my hat' on it.
