  1. Ah bit far away to try my Gedo out as I'm in Staffordshire, let me know if you're passing though and I'll pop the kettle on
  2. It's not a myth. Where did I say ALL ORIGINALS play for free? And can you point me to anywhere that I said they shouldn't get paid as much?
  3. You can't really waver can you? Mind you I can't sing even when not playing!
  4. You know when someone bakes you a birthday guitar cake and that person hasn't got a clue what the difference between a Les Paul and Double bass is, this bass looks like that cake.
  5. Genzler magellan sounds like a starting point?
  6. From some of the people I've met over the years I suspect sadly you're wrong! Lol
  7. Certainly does, the pub is run by a committee, no one on the committee has ever run a pub before
  8. A venue we used to play regularly changed hands over a year ago, we did the first gig there after they took over and the already questionable clientele had dwindled so we decided not to try too hard to get any more. Roll on a year and they've asked us to do another so we said ok as we're not that busy anyway, a couple of weeks ago another band that plays there contacted us to ask if we know what's going on as they'd been messed around by the venue, our guitarist contacted them to check we were still booked and they said the other band were rubbish and got the audience to sing the songs because they couldn't, now I've never seen them so I can't comment on that but as the conversation progressed the organiser said that the profits are in decline, (that's in general not just the music night add it's run terribly), he also pointed out that he has found a website where he can get bands for free! Lol. Now any bands doing that will be originals expecting a typical 3 or 4 band line-up at a venue with a stage and a PA/sound person maybe even a house drum kit minus breakables surely? This is a typical pub where we take lights and PA plus the usual full compliment of amps and drum kit, it's also a 50 mile round trip from where he said the bands are based. I think we'll be seeing another closed venue that did have a popular Saturday night schedule until 18 months ago
  9. Where abouts are you based?
  10. The Zellar in the for sale section also looks nice too.
  11. Billy Jean is like that for me, hopefully the audience are dancing and you really have to pump those notes out bang on time over and over to keep them grooving!
  12. Sounds like you've got it ingrained now! I'll do a 'tribute' to the original then especially if he did too, thanks
  13. I have a Gedo Linus that will be at the bash, there are a few ofus on here with them, great company to deal with and much better than anything ebayesque! http://www.gedo-musik.de/shop/en/double-bass-plywood/80-kontrabass-schwarz-matt-komplett-laminiert-34-und-44-groesse-neu-4260227041453.html This is a fully plywood one which I would have no worries about buying from them, I have a half carved and I think Bilbo has a fully carved one? Even this ply one has an ebony fingerboard as opposed to ebonized (painted black!) and decent tirolean tuners. Get along to the bash and fuel your gas even more This one is the same as mine http://www.gedo-musik.de/shop/en/double-bass-half-carved/20-kontrabass-34-braunmatt-lackiert-halbmassiv-neu-4260227044935.html but I have the glossy violin finish that they haven't got listed at the moment, same bass though with De Gamba sides and solid spruce top, stripey maple back and sides, ebony tail and fingerboard, I had Spirocores fitted by them at the German factory along with an adjustable bridge which would buy you a decent Squier bass alone, Lol
  14. I am learning Elvis Costello Pump It Up for rehearsal later, resorted to downloading the dots, every verse and every chorus are slightly different each time both in note choice and quantity of bars! I will simplify it a bit for the real world I think.
  15. If it sounds good and the punters look to be enjoying themselves then it's done its job.
  16. I did wonder that too?
  17. There are a lot of shops that should have foreseen how internet sales would destroy their business, purely retailing someone else's goods is no longer profitable.
  18. WoT can sit in front and check for a lack of heft! Lol
  19. I didn't know that! Every day is a school day We'll have to try the 735 and 745 together Russ or all four and your subs at the same time, ooofft!!
  20. Generally I think items offered for commission sale fall into two camps, the first are very desirable and expensive that will sell quickly but the buyers are more likely to buy from a shop with some form of guarantee and possibly pay with a credit card, those items will make money for the shop and raise the seller the same amount as they would get privately even taking the fees into account, the other type are valuable but unusual and probably not on anyone's radar, hanging in a shop is the best place to achieve a decent sale price for those.
  21. You can't have it both ways, ok let's have a fixed £200 fee, that's not going to work on a £500 ticket price bass is it?
  22. Not enough neck dive to be a Gibson and the bridge looks too good?
  23. If you're doing a motown gig one night and a metallica tribute the next the FRFR setup is going to be a winner over the person that bought the Ampeg Fliptop with similar requirements.
  24. Who's gone for top end speakers? Pro's have gone in ears and helix (or similar) into full range PA. Dinosaurs down the pub knocking out alright now are where the high end cab sales are these days
