...just like the philharmonic playing Beethoven or Bartok.
Yep.
-
Doesn't that go for everything though? I've had three financial advisers since I was 19, they've all saved me money.
-
If you didn't write them then they are covers, the passage of time or complexity of the pieces makes them no less and no more of a cover than playing 'Sex On Fire' down the tickled trout
I have no clue where I what category I would put my band in on that list. But on the plus side, it isn't classic rock, so at least we aren't in the mainstream!
+1

How quickly could you knock up some fake cab boxes smeared in dog sh*te to put back in their hole? -

Wow that's awesome! -
For me the problem with Yamaha is that the model numbers don't tell you much, you say a BB series, well a BBNE2 is around £3500!
Who says I can't get as good a deal as an FA?
Because your buying one, they're buying hundreds, millions of pounds worth. That's how it works, they get offered deals not available to the man on the street and get a commission or a one off payment from the lender or the home owner or both, the lender still gets a monthly saving and the FA makes a living, but of course you know all that as its not rocket science as you say
-
So you'd pay more money per month on your own mortgage and do it yourself? Savvy 99.9% of the time the private seller will get less than a shop for an item, each individual case is different of course, every now and again someone will bag that pre CBS Jazz bass from crack converters but in general a bass for £2000 in a shop isn't going to sell anywhere near privately unless it's very rare.
No, I get why it happens, I'm just saying personally, unless there were extenuating circumstances, I just could not hand over 20% from the sale of one of my basses.

Not even if the sale fetched 30% more than on your own..?

Sorry Dad, I've not had any experience of that. I could quote a circumstance completely the opposite in fact.
Exactly my point Douglas! My wife complains about paying our financial adviser about £250 to arrange our mortgage every few years, he saves us far more than that and does all the paperwork so it's a win win for us regardless of how much money the guy makes. The only way it could be the opposite would be if you agreed to sell it for less? I can't see how that's relevant.
-
Yep get well from me, what a player.
I just could not hand over £400 for a two grand bass.
It's not quite that simple though is it, even though it's only a commission sale a shop is likely to be able to achieve a greater sale price largely in this day and age due to being able to take credit cards as payment for used goods, it's no different to cars costing much more from a garage than a private sale even if the car is still under warranty. The reality of buyers saying "I'd rather buy new" when they come here asking for advice on their first decent bass or gigging amp is that quite often it's going on the credit card so the mega deal in the for sale section here is a non starter.
Aw Pete! Now those pesky Lahndahgnaws are going to be able to survive out here longer because of your wisdom. Wind your neck in mate. Heeheehee
Don't worry they won't come this far oop
Bent Bit Of Tin - a derogatory name for an entirely adequate piece of kit.
Even Leo stopped fitting them on everything he made after selling Fender so he must have felt there was a better solution, and there is.

I feel it only my duty to warn anyone from the south heading north or at least out into the sticks over the summer to bring some cash with them, unless you stumble across a Harvester or Wetherspoons etc I strongly suggest you bring some folding cash along! On the plus side a pint will taste better and cost half as much so it's not all bad news
That works if you have a sound tech/person (sound engineer is an oxymoron). I saw (heard) a band recently that were self mixing. They used in-ears and must have spent 15-20 minutes getting the foldback correct. No one ever came out front. The sound sucked and the biggest culprit was the bass. They were using two really big JBL cabinets for PA and the bass drowned out everything.
I don't think you can blame the technology for that though can you? -
That's the ones, the live shows were excellent.
-
We've got two village pubs, neither take cards and the nearest cash machine is an eight mile round trip, suits me just fine
-
It's not my sort of thing as such but we saw him live at the Manchester bass day, ridiculous and had my hairs standing on end! He's also a really good public speaker with a good sense of humour.
I wish. "The way to solve this and to play your best is to use in-ear monitors". No. The way to solve this is to have a sound engineer who has a clue. Tech is only ever a helping hand. My band don't have a drum kit, but try explaining to a house sound guy that this means the wedges don't have to compete with a snare drum. I've played gigs with my rig turned to zero before now because house sound guy won't do his job, listen and think. Instead they try and make the cajon as loud as a kick drum, then crank everything else to match it: et voila tinnitus and feedback.
So if you had in ears you could do your perfect own mix in rehearsals then at the gigs you'd get a consistent perfect fold back. -
So by that token, running 'Fender' would be a hobby, then..?

Popped up while I was typing. Being paid cash is fine, it's the refusal to accept invoices which makes it hard. And I play up to five gigs a week, with no other income, all local venues this year. I can invoice a couple pubs and a handful of weddings, but HMRC might like to know how I got by for '17-'18. Telling them it was all cash, and givng them a record of it all which I wrote down myself might not get brushed off quite so smoothly. Maybe there's more provision for earning cash out of the landlords pocket than I thought, but I would still welcome a more invoice friendly system.
It's not your problem what they do with the invoice, you give them the invoice and collect the cash, make it out to Michael mouse, 12 Coronation Street if that's what they want.
